Employee turnover is a constant phenomenon faced by organizations. Some turnover is not only healthy, but also necessary for an organization, as it allows for an influx of new blood; however, high levels of turnover can be unhealthy for an organization. This study aims to calculate the employee turnover rate in a particular healthcare organization and compare it with the benchmarks provided in existing literature, and to discover potential reasons for the organization’s high turnover. Available data from previous years were also analyzed to estimate the financial and non-financial losses of the organization. The study addresses and rates the importance of some of the most common factors that determine the overall satisfaction of employees, such as salary and other benefits, career opportunity and personal growth, and work life protocols, including policies and procedures, working environment conditions, supervisor behavior, and colleague behavior and support. The results of this research will be helpful for not only the healthcare industry, but also the overall corporate sector, because turnover can pose a serious problem and therefore needs to be promptly investigated and resolved

Excellence In Business Education (A FRUCE Model For Higher Education CommissionRecognized Business Schools In Pakistan)

The paper develops a new model of the essential factors required to be a top business school in the world for the benefit of schools recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in Pakistan. Globally, top business schools are those that excel in research, attract strong faculty, and successfully foster student development. The present research considers these factors in relation to HEC recognition; HECs stringent criteria are disliked by many educational entrepreneurs, for whom the profit motive can sometimes trump the delivery of high-quality programs, resulting in the awarding of spurious degrees.HECs criteria are intended to prevent situations like this, which became increasingly common in Pakistan and reduced educational quality. Under HEC recognition, top business schools and programs can once again be recognized. However, many business schools in Pakistan still have unqualified faculty, poor student development, and little or no research output. The present study shows that business schools in Pakistan can only survive if they explicitly or implicitly follow criteria based on the Faculty, Research, Use of Technology, Corporate Office, and Extracurricular Activities (FRUCE) model presented herein. The main motivation for presenting the FRUCE model is to help Pakistani business schools meet international standards. As context, this research also reports on the slow progress of some universities in achieving adequacy in the areas included in the FRUCE model, including not only the areas mentioned above but also administration/governance and advising. The FRUCE model has the ability to address all these areas

Prognostic indicators in cerebral venous sinus thrombosis

    Get PDF
Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVT) can affect all age groups, particularly women of childbearing age. Overall prognosis for survival and functional independence is better than it was believed. Mortality usually ranges from 6-15% and transtentorial herniation is the major cause of death. Approximately 80% of patients are functionally independent in the long term. Altered mental status and cerebral haemorrhage at presentation are the strongest predictors of death and disability. Patients with CVT related to pregnancy and puerperium generally do better than patients with other causes. Septic CVT carries a worse prognosis than aseptic CVT and of the latter, patients with syndrome of isolated intracranial hypertension have a better prognosis than those with focal deficits or encephalopathy. Anticoagulation is believed to improve outcome in CVT although robust data are lacking. Epilepsy, headaches, visual loss, pyramidal deficits and cognitive impairment are some of the long term sequelae. The risk of recurrence of CVT is low, particularly after the first 12 months of the first episode

Background: Self-esteem is defined as “how we value our self”; it affects our trust and relationships in every part of life. Person with low self-esteem may feel powerless and incompetent about himself/herself. Moreover, low self-esteem operates as a risk factor for depression, which is most common disorder among elderly people both in developed and developing countries, causing multiple behavioral changes as well as may increase the chances of depression and suicide among the elderly people. Objective: The objective of this case study was to understand the problems faced by elderly people in the nursing home and to relate the self-esteem with depression among them. Methods: A face to face in-depth interview was conducted with a 70-year-old female living in the nursing room. Her perceptions for life were explored through a questionnaire.Findings of case study: It was observed that old lady was unable to express herself and was reluctant in sharing her views with interviewer. According to her, she was introverted and was unable to interact socially with other people because of physical disability. She used to feel unworthy and always used to think that she cannot do anything and was not encouraged by her colleagues and always been criticized by others. She was found to be depressed and had no meaning to life. Conclusion: It can be concluded that depression is one of the common problems among geriatric population, attributed to low self-esteem. Based on the personal observation during the interview, it is recommended that such clients should be encouraged, educated and counseled appropriately to enhance their trust and confidence. There should be some mechanism by which a space can be provided to them to interact with people outside their limited circle and to share their problems with their colleagues and relatives if possible. This may enhance their self-esteem and may decrease the chances of depression among elderly
