We provide the synthesis and characterization of semiconductor nanowire attached with metallic nanoparticles. The wires consist of zinc sulfide (ZnS) attached with gold nanoparticles (Au NPs). The nonlinear optical properties of the semiconductor nanowires are combined with the plasmonic of metallic nanoparticles (Au NPs) and offer an improved optical signal in the near infrared spectral range. The plasmonic of a metallic (Au NPs) offers the effect of locally improving the electric field of the incident light on the nanowire and consequently inducing a much stronger second harmonic generation (SHG) signal. By comparing SHG signals measured from bare ZnS NWs and ZnS –Au hybrid nanostructures we obtain 6 time improvement of the SHG intensity It is demonstrated that is ZnS NWs is an ideal candidate for nanolasers, nanoprobes especially for the ultraviolet region, nonlinear optical microscopy and nanophotonic. Keywords: plasmonic nanostructures. Chemical synthesis, ZnS NWs, Second - Harmonic generation (SHG)

This study is a cross-sectional study with the objective to determine mismatch between school furniture and anthropometric measurement among primary school children in Mersing. The sample consisted of 91 primary school children (46 male and 45 female) from Year 2 and Year 5 in two schools in Mersing District, Malaysia. Seven anthropometric measurement (height, weight, popliteal height, buttock-popliteal length, hip breadth, shoulder height and elbow height while sitting) as well as 5 furniture dimensions (seat height, seat depth, seat width, backrest height and seat to desk height) were taken. Instruments used were Martyn type anthropometer set, ruler, height scale and weighing scale. Differences between genders in anthropometric measurements were also investigated in this study. Findings showed 100% high mismatch for seat height, seat depth, desk height respectively while 56% match and only 44% mismatch for backrest height among Year 2 children. Year 5 students reported contrary result with 79% mismatch for seat height, 91% for backrest height and 100% for both seat depth and desk height. There was no significant difference between genders for both age groups. In conclusion, there was a mismatch between furniture and children's anthropometric measurements. It is recommended that school furniture be redesigned so as to conform to the children's physiological measurement. The use of adjustable furniture can be taken into consideration in designing new furniture for school environments in order to meet all the differences in children anthropometry

This work aimed to study the cytotoxic effect of L-asparaginase isolated from local Withania somnifera plant on lymphocyte leukemia cells. To achieve this goal, L-asparaginase was purified from W. somnifera fruits by two purification steps, ion-exchange chromatography using DEAE-cellulose and gel filtration chromatography using Sephadex G-150, and the study utilized an in vitro evaluation for the cytotoxic effect of the partially purified L-asparaginase with concentrations ranging (12.5 to 100 μg/ml) in a two fold serial dilutions on some cell suspension culture including, acute lymphocyte leukemia and chronic lymphocyte leukemia culture at different concentrations (12.5 to 100 μg/ml) and different exposure time of treatment (24, 48 and 72 h). This two purification steps raised the specific activity from 1.73 U/mg in crude extract to 2.29 U/mg after ion-exchange and 10.5 U/mg after gel filtration; the purification fold was 1.32 after ion-exchange and 6.06 after gel filtration, the enzyme recovery was 56% after two purification steps and the results, pointed that acute lymphocyte leukemia culture showed highest sensitivity toward the cytotoxic effect (62.3±0.9%) of the partial purified L-asparaginase (100 μg/ml) than other culture after 48 h in a dose dependent manner, and highest cytotoxic inhibitory effect (73.2±1.6%) after 48 h of exposure on chronic lymphocyte leukemia culture, while healthy lymphocyte culture showed novel behavior. The lowest concentration of cell treatment gave the most significant (P< 0.01) inhibitory effect. The conclusion is that there is enough evidence to support the claim that Lasparaginase from W. somnifera may be considered chemotherapeutic agent against cancer, such as acute lymphoblastic leukemia and lymphosarcoma. Keywords: Acute lymphocyte leukemia (ALL), chronic lymphocyte leukemia (CLL), L-asparaginase, cytotoxic assay

Desulfurization of a simulated diesel fuel by different adsorbents was studied in a fixed-bed adsorption process operated at ambient temperature and pressure. Three different adsorption beds were used, commercial activated carbon, Cu-Y zeolite, and layered bed of 15wt% activated carbon followed by Cu-Y zeolite.Initially Y-zeolite was prepared from Iraqi rice husk and then impregnated with copper. In general, the adsorbents tested for total sulfur adsorption capacity at break through followed the order Ac/Cu-Y zeolite>Cu-Y zeolite>Ac. The best adsorbent, Ac/Cu-Y zeolite is capable of producing more than 30 cm3 of simulated diesel fuel per gram of adsorbent with a weighted average content of 5 ppm-S, while Cu-Y zeolite producing of about 20 cm3 of diesel fuel per gram of adsorbent with a weighted average content of 2ppm-S. Activated carbon breaks through almost immediately

Lerak (Sapindus rarak Dc.) is an Asian plant that produces saponins, artificial surfactant, used as cleaning agent. Lerak has been used as traditional cleaning product because it is believed to maintain the color of the product, and also eco-friendly. The use of lerak as a traditional cleaning product is inefficient, so in this study lerak will processed as liquid laundry soap. This study conducted to determine the effect of lerak concentration (5 %, 7 % and 9 %) to the physicochemical properties of liquid laundry soap. This study used Randomized Block Design (RBD), analyzed by one way ANOVA and the next test used LSD test. Based on the research, lerak concentration were significantly different on pH, free fatty acids and clean ability of liquid laundry soap but were not significantly different on specific gravity, viscosity, foam stability of liquid laundry soap. The best treatment is liquid laundry soap with 7 % lerak concentration that have higher values of clean ability and viscosity. The addition of lerak concentration in liquid laundry is proven to increase their cleaning power and eco-friendly but will be constant at saturated level
