Employee voice and collective formation in the Indian ITES-BPO industry
The growth of the information technology enabled services-business process outsourcing industry calls for attention to employees' working conditions and rights. Can an independent organisation such as unites Pro (the union of information technology enabled services professionals) represent employees' interests and effectively work towards protecting their rights and improving their working conditions? A survey of unites members indicates that they identify with the need for such an organisation to deal with poor supervisory and managerial treatment, concerns for employee safety, grievances related to pay and workload, and even the indignities of favouritism
Polyakov Loops in Strongly-Coupled Plasmas with Gravity Duals
We study the properties of the Polyakov loop in strongly-coupled gauge
plasmas that are conjectured to be dual to five dimensional theories of gravity
coupled to a nontrivial single scalar field. We find a gravity dual that can
describe the thermodynamic properties and also the expectation value of the

Mapping out the thermodynamic stability of a QCD equation of state with a critical point using active learning
The Beam Energy Scan Theory (BEST) collaboration's equation of state (EoS)
incorporates a 3D Ising model critical point into the Quantum Chromodynamics
(QCD) equation of state from lattice simulations. However, it contains 4 free
parameters related to the size and location of the critical region in the QCD
phase diagram. Certain combinations of the free parameters lead to acausal or
unstable realizations of the EoS that should not be considered. In this work,
we use an active learning framework to rule out pathological EoS efficiently.
We find that checking stability and causality for a small portion of the
parameters' range is sufficient to construct algorithms that perform with
96% accuracy across the entire parameter space. Though in this work we focus
on a specific case, our approach can be generalized to any EoS containing a
parameter space-class correspondence.Comment: 14 pages, 9 figure
Relaxation oscillations and negative strain rate sensitivity in the Portevin - Le Chatelier effect
A characteristic feature of the Portevin - Le Chatelier effect or the jerky
flow is the stick-slip nature of stress-strain curves which is believed to
result from the negative strain rate dependence of the flow stress. The latter
is assumed to result from the competition of a few relevant time scales
controlling the dynamics of jerky flow. We address the issue of time scales and
its connection to the negative strain rate sensitivity of the flow stress
within the framework of a model for the jerky flow which is known to reproduce
several experimentally observed features including the negative strain rate
sensitivity of the flow stress. We attempt to understand the above issues by
analyzing the geometry of the slow manifold underlying the relaxational
oscillations in the model. We show that the nature of the relaxational
oscillations is a result of the atypical bent geometry of the slow manifold.
The analysis of the slow manifold structure helps us to understand the time
scales operating in different regions of the slow manifold. Using this
information we are able to establish connection with the strain rate
sensitivity of the flow stress. The analysis also helps us to provide a proper
dynamical interpretation for the negative branch of the strain rate

Asymptotic Regge Trajectories of Non-strange Mesons
We analyze the asymptotic behavior of Regge trajectories of non-strange
mesons. In contrast to an existing belief, it is demonstrated that for the
asymptotically linear Regge trajectories the width of heavy hadrons cannot
linearly depend on their mass. Using the data on masses and widths of rho_J,
omega_J, a_J and f_J mesons for the spin values J \leq 6, we extract the
parameters of the asymptotically linear Regge trajectory predicted by the
finite width model of quark gluon bags. As it is shown the obtained parameters
for the data set B correspond to the cross-over temperature lying in the
interval 170.9-175.3 MeV which is consistent with the kinetic freeze-out
temperature of early hadronizing particles found in relativistic heavy ion
collisions at and above the highest SPS energy.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figure
