Diurnal expression of NGF1-A mRNA in retinal degeneration slow (rds) mutant mouse retina

AbstractThe retinal degeneration slow (rds) mutant mouse is a model for studying the retinal dystrophy for human disease, retinitis pigmentosa (RP). To continue our effort towards a possible mechanism of photoreceptor cell death in retinal dystrophies, we have studied the impact of the rds mutation on diurnal expression of a ‘zinc-finger’ DNA-binding protein, NGF1-A mRNA in the isolated retinas ofrds mutant mice compared to those of BALB/c mice. Background levels of NGF1-A mRNA were maintained during the subjective light period. Higher levels of NGF1-A mRNA were observed immediately after the light offset and peaked two hours into the light offset for both the BALB/c and the rds mutant retinas and remained higher for several hours in the dark. If the animals were left continuously in light during the subjective dark period, NGF1-A mRNA levels were not induced and remained lower. On the other hand NGF1-A mRNA levels were transiently induced during the transition of the dark-to-light phase. These data suggest that NGF1-A mRNA is differentially regulated by light and dark stimuli in the retina and an absence of rod outer segments in the rds mutant retina does not alter the normal diurnal cycle of NGF1-A mRNA expression

FINE GRAINED DUAL PHASE STEEL BY THERMO MECHANICAL PROCESSING

The effect of thermo mechanical processing (TMP) on the mechanical properties of HSLA steel was investigated. TMP was conducted using a laboratory open die forging machine.Multiaxial forging (MAF) and intercritical annealing methods were used. TMP is designed to obtain ultrafine grained (UFG) steels. MAF is performed on prismatic shaped samples up to nine strain forging steps to produce ultra-fine grained (UFG) ferrite-pearlite steel with higher strength as compare to as received steel.Fine grained (FG) ferrite-martensite dual phases (DP) steel was fabricated by using combined effect of warm MAF and intercritical annealing. The tensile strength of FG-DP steels was much higher than that of the coarse-grained (CG) counterpart, and the uniform elongations were significantly enhanced. This steel exhibited the superior combination of higher strength and more rapid strain hardening compared to those of CG-DP steel was explained in terms of their specific microstructural features

A Survey on Energy Efficient Routing In MANETs Using Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm

    Get PDF
Mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) are self-establishing network that contains short radio range and limited bandwidth and they do not have any specified infrastructure. The ad hoc network changes its topology suddenly. In such this type of situation, establishing correct and efficient routes from source to destination is an important design issue in mobile ad hoc networks and its challenging goal is to provide energy efficient routing protocol. For finding the shortest path between the sources to destination, the routing technique genetic algorithm (GA) plays an important role. Such type of routing technique will reduce in finding the route again and again when any failure occurs in the path. Hence, it will take less time in sending again the packet to the destination and therefore it results in increasing throughput in the Mobile Ad hoc Network. In this paper, we have discussed the routing protocols, its classifications, advantage and disadvantages of the routing protocols and taxonomy of energy efficient routing protocols in Mobile Ad hoc network. Synthesis, photoluminescence and electrochemical properties of 2,7-diarylfluorene derivatives

    Get PDF
A new class of highly fluorescent 9,9'-bis-(alkyl)-2,7-diarylfluorene having electron withdrawing or electron donating groups on the p-phenyl positions were synthesized and characterized. The highly luminescent fluorene derivatives, 1-6 showed blue emission (376-416 nm), narrow FWHM (~50 nm), high quantum yield (ΦF=0·12-0·87) and short fluorescence lifetimes, τF=0·23-1·14 ns. The HOMO levels of 9,9'-bis-(alkyl)-fluorene were tuned by the ρ-substituents at 2,7-phenyl group. Hammett correlation with EHOMO of these new molecules provides an effective tool to predict the HOMO level of similar molecules prior to the synthesis. These data indicate that they are useful as emitting materials for organic light emitting devices, OLEDs

Synthesis, photophysical and electrochemical properties of 2,8-diaryl-dibenzothiophene derivatives for organic electronics

A series of 2,8-p-diaryldibenzothiophene derivatives were synthesized and characterized. These molecules have electron withdrawing or electron donating groups at the para phenyl position, which alters the electronic properties of these derivatives. The quantum yield, fluorescence lifetime, singlet, triplet and EHOMO energy levels of these compounds were determined by fluorescence, phosphorescence and cyclic voltammetry. A plot of Hammett constants of the para substituents vs EHOMO revealed a linear relationship. The usefulness of these molecules in organic light emitting diodes, OLEDs is discussed vis-à-vis the energy levels and properties

Women’s Literacy a Major Predictor of Population Size: Findings from National Family Health Survey-5

Background: The global population continues to rise at different rates in different parts of the world. While some countries are seeing a fast population increase, others are experiencing population loss. Significant ramifications of such changes in the global population distribution would be felt, as they are critical for meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), or we might say that rapid population expansion poses obstacles to sustainable development. Estimating the population size and composition by age, sex, and other demographic parameters is crucial for analyzing the country’s future influence on poverty, sustainability, and development. This study tries to look at these parameters covered by the National Family Health Survey- 5 (NFHS 5) to see how accurate and trustworthy the predictors of district population size are. Methodology: The study assessed the predictors of the population size of any district. It was conducted using the secondary data of phase 1 of NFHS-5. The outcome variable is the population of each district. Household profiles, literacy among women, their marriage and fertility, contraceptive usage, and unmet need for family planning were considered to assess their potential as a predictor of the district’s population size. Principal component analysis (PCA) was conducted to identify the predictors. Result: PCA was conducted on 18 variables, resulting in 7 principal components. Cumulatively, these components explained 77.6% of the total variation in data. On multiple linear regression, four principal components were found significant and these were related to women’s literacy, contraceptive usage, early pregnancy, the marriage of fewer than 18 years, and those using health insurance. Conclusion: Thus, women’s literacy plays a pivotal role in determining a region’s population size

Attempt is made to understand the impact of tanneries on ground water quality of Unnao. Study was undertaken to evaluate physico-chemical parameters and chromium, lead iron concentration in ground water near tannery industries. The results revealed that only two parameters fluoride and chromium are present in slight high concentration than permissible limit. Ground water quality % sample compliance / violation with respect to BIS standard were also studied
