The Design of Perfect Reconstruction Filter Banks using Ladder Structures and Simulated Annealing

004/94 This report investigates the potentials of ladder structures in order to implement filter banks. The advantage of ladder structures is that perfect reconstruction is automatically achieved. Constraints on the ladder structures when requiring linear phase are formulated. The filter bank design problem is tackled by taking the constructive design approach. This means a ladder structure is constructed in the downsampled domain and the ladder coef-ficients optimized using the Simulated Annealing algorithm. Some results of experiments carried out are presented. Keywords
