Magnetic resonance in the quasi-2D square lattice easy-plane antiferromagnet BaMnGeO
We report results of a multi-frequency (0.8-60 GHz) electron spin resonance
study of the spin dynamics in the quasi-2D square lattice antiferromagnet
BaMnGeO both in antiferromagnetically ordered and paramagnetic
phases. We directly observe two zero-field gaps in the excitation spectrum of
the ordered phase, the larger one being due to easy-plane anisotropy, and the
smaller one indicates the presence of fourth-order in-plane anisotropy probably
related to the multiferroic properties of this compound. We observe effects of
hyperfine interaction on the electron spin resonance spectra in the
antiferromagnetically ordered state, which turns out to be comparable with
in-plane anisotropy. The hyperfine field strength is found from the observed
low-temperature electron spin resonance data. The spin dynamics of the
paramagnetic phase is characterized by strong broadening of the ESR absorption
line, which can be ascribed to the vortex dynamics of a 2D magnet
Experimental Simulation of the Radionuclide Behaviour in the Process of Creating Additional Safety Barriers in Solid Radioactive Waste Repositories Containing Irradiated Graphite
Results of the experimental modeling of radionuclide behavior when creating additional safety barriers in solid radioactive waste repositories are presented. The experiments were run on the repository mockup containing solid radioactive waste fragments including irradiated graphite. The repository mockup layout is given; the processes with radionuclides that occur during the barrier creation with a clayey solution and during the following barrier operation are investigated. The results obtained confirm high anti-migration and anti-filtration properties of clay used for the barrier creation even under the long-term excessive water saturation of rocks confining the repository
ANOTHER LOOK AT TYPE 2 DIABETES PATIENT: “DIALOGUE” STUDY RESULTS
Aim. To evaluate factors affecting hypoglycemic therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) in real clinical practice.Material and methods. 200 patients with DM2, who consented to take part in the questionnaire, were examined. Questionnaire data evaluation and clinical examination was performed as well as plasma levels of glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and lipids estimation.Results. Low rate of diagnosed DM2 complications especially nephropathy was observed. 68% of patients had high level of glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) because of their knowledge lack as well as inadequate glucose self-monitoring or it’s absent and uncommon combined glucose-lowering therapy. Depression was revealed in 43,5% of patients, especially in patients with chronic DM2 complications. Low incidence of depression was associated with good patient knowledge about DM2. Well informed patients had lower score according to CES-D scale than patients with DM2 complications.Conclusion. Appropriate drug therapy, patients’ education, early depression diagnosis and treatment are necessary to improve glycemic control in DM2 patients.</p

Splitting of antiferromagnetic resonance modes in the quasi-two-dimensional collinear antiferromagnet Cu(en)(H2O)(2) SO4
A low-temperature magnetic resonance study of the quasi-two-dimensional antiferromagnet Cu(en)(H2O)(2)SO4 (en = C2H8N2) was performed down to 0.45 K. This compound orders antiferromagnetically at 0.9 K. The analysis of the resonance data within the hydrodynamic approach allowed us to identify anisotropy axes and to estimate the anisotropy parameters for the antiferromagnetic phase. Dipolar spin-spin coupling turns out to be the main contribution to the anisotropy of the antiferromagnetic phase. The splitting of the resonance modes and its nonmonotonous dependence on the applied frequency were observed below 0.6 K in all three field orientations. Several models are discussed to explain the origin of the nontrivial splitting, and the existence of inequivalent magnetic subsystems in Cu(en)(H2O)(2)SO4 is chosen as the most probable source.Web of Science1011art. no. 01441
