The breeding of ornamental plants as a branch of crop production is an integral part of the set of measures aimed at obtaining a wide range of different plants with high decorative characteristics. The main objective of this branch is the creation of plants that are attractive to the consumer and commercially characterized by such valuable biological features as adaptability, resistance to diseases, pests, frost and others. Most ornamental plant varieties were bred by means of traditional breeding methods such as selection, distant hybridization, clone breeding, radiation and chemically induced mutagenesis. However, the use of traditional breeding tools is limited by the potential for intraspecific variability. The development of modern biotechnological and genetic approaches to the breeding of new varieties has made it possible to modify the plant genotype at a qualitatively new level. The present review covers the directions in and methodology of modern ornamental plant breeding in Russia, ways of mobilizing the genetic resources of the main ornamental crops such as rose, clematis, canna, chrysanthemum, pelargonia, iris, daylily, tulip, lilac, and rhododendron. Aslo, the review offers examples of ornamental plant breeding work uderway in the leading specialized scientific institutions such as the Russian State Agrarian University – the K.A. Timiryazev Moscow Agricultural Academy, I.V. Michurin Federal Research Centre, Nikitsky Botanical Gardens – National Scientific Center of the RAS, Subtropical Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Botanical Garden of the M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Tobacco, Mahorka and Tobacco Products. The world and Russian flower and ornamental plants markets, the problem and methods of resolving the issue of quality import substitution, and prospects for the development of floriculture in Russia in the foreseeable future are also briefly considered

    Get PDF
The present paper is devoted to the phenomenon of codification and the main inconsistencies between the theoretical requirements for a term and actual terminological units found in terminological dictionaries of law. The paper presents the analysis of terms used in the legal sphere. The objective of the research is to identify and classify the inconsistencies that have a direct impact on codification as the last stage of the creation of a terminological dictionary. Particular attention is paid to the study of the content plane of legal terms listed in English terminological dictionaries as well as their expression plane. The authors conclude that at both levels (those of the content plane and the expression plane) and at the level of functioning the inconsist- encies raise important issues concerning further development of both terminography as a field of science and the dictionary-making process taking place today

This study aimed to reveal air pollution and its influence on pathology of upper respiratory tract in teenagers of Angarsk and Sayansk. The quantitative content of chemical substances in the atmospheric air of the celitebic territory of Angarsk and Sayansk was studied based on the data of the hydro-meteorological center, the content of chemical substances in indoor air was assessed based on studying of the educational institutions. Two territories with a different pollution level were chosen to investigate in Angarsk. The higher summary risk of forming the respiratory organ pathology stipulated by the indoor air pollution and the atmospheric air with the tropic substances to the systems indicated was revealed to be in the schoolchildren in Angarsk. The studies performed in the educational school rooms have shown that on the whole the largest pollution degree was induced by the suspended substances. In the educational school rooms studied in Angarsk the increase in the hygienic normative on suspended substances was found to be in the educational classes in 43 % of samples, in the computer classes and in the sporting halls - in 44 % of samples. Sometimes the increase in the limited allowed concentration (LAC) was more than 2 times. The increase in the LAC of formaldehyde was observed to be in 13 % of samples in the educational classes. In the incidence structure according to applying for medical assistance the respiratory organ diseases were found to occupy the first place, at the same time the pathology of the upper respiratory ways prevailed in both towns. The chronic glandular and adenoid diseases as well as the allergic rhinitis were more often revealed. In comparison of the regions in Angarsk which are different in the pollution levels, it was found that the chronic pathology of the upper respiratory ways occurred 1,4 times more often in first region than in second one and 2,8 times more often than in Sayansk

Recently, the trend of using fruit and berry crops as ingredients for functional and dietary nutrition, the development and implementation of flavors, pigments, new medicines and dietary supplements has been actualized. Because the direction of use depends on the biochemical properties of fruits, which are determined not only by species and varietal characteristics, but also by reproduction conditions, the study of the biochemical composition of fruits grown in various regions of the world continues to be relevant. In this regard, the collection of N.I. Vavilov Institute (VIR), which has a wide diversity of fruit and berry crops, is of great interest for study. Ribes nigrum fruits have a balanced set of sugars, organic acids, essential oils, microelements, a high content of vitamins, anthocyanins, pectins. Lonicera caerulea fruits are characterized by high values of phenolic substances: bioflavonoids, hydroxycinnamic acids, flavonols, polyphenols, anthocyanins, as well as vitamins, carotenoids, iridoid glycosides and other natural antioxidants. The investigation of L. caerulea and R. nigrum fruit’s accessions from the VIR collection using gas-liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry allows us to obtain new information about the biochemical characteristics of fruits, to identify L. caerulea and R. nigrum varieties with optimal economically valuable characteristics, to determine the specificity of L. caerulea and R. nigrum metabolomic spectra in the setting of Northwest Russia. As a result of the analysis, typical compounds of the metabolomic profile of each culture were identified. Organic acids, phenol-containing compounds and polyols prevailed in L. caerulea, while mono- and oligosaccharides, in R. nigrum. The qualitative composition of the black currant varieties ‘Malen’kii Printz’, ‘Dobriyi Dzhinn’, ‘Tisel’, ‘Orlovskii Val’s’, and blue honeysuckle ‘S 322-4’, ‘Malvina’, ‘Leningradsky Velikan’ was optimal for food consumption; the varieties of blue honeysuckle ‘Bazhovskaya’ and black currant ‘Aleander’ had a good representation of biologically active compounds, which makes samples attractive as raw materials for the production of biologically active additives, including with the use of microorganisms’ cultures

The results of treatment of data obtained in the SERP-E-184experiment "Investigation of mechanisms of the production of charmed particles in proton-nucleus interactions at 70 GeV and their decays" by irradiating the active target of the SVD-2 facility consisting of carbon, silicon, and lead plates, are presented. After separating a signal from the two-particle decay of neutral charmed mesons and estimating the cross section for charm production at a threshold energy {\sigma}(c\v{c})=7.1 \pm 2.4(stat.) \pm 1.4(syst.) \mub/nucleon, some properties of D mesons are investigated. These include the dependence of the cross section on the target mass number (its A dependence); the behavior of the differential cross sections d{\sigma}/dpt2 and d{\sigma}/dxF; and the dependence of the parameter {\alpha} on the kinematical variables xF, pt2, and plab. The experimental results in question are compared with predictions obtained on the basis of the FRITIOF7.02 code.Comment: 9 pages, 9 figures,3 table

During pregnancy, the maternal immune system must maintain tolerance to paternal antigens, at the same time being able to eliminate pathogens, which is achieved by the weakening of adoptive immunity and the activation of innate immunity, in particular, monocytes. However, the question about the functional phenotype of monocytes, having not only pro-inflammatory, but also anti-inflammatory activity, remains open. In the given work, we have investigated the expression of M2-associated suppressive markers Arg1 and MerTK in monocyte subpopulations during uncomplicated pregnancy. Fifty-three pregnant women with uncomplicated gestation were recruited, including 14 pregnant in the 1st trimester, 20 – in the 2nd and 19 – in the third pregnancy trimester. The comparison group consisted of 15 fertile unpregnant women without aggravated somatic anamnesis, with a history of at least one childbirth. The findings showed that in the unpregnant group circulating Mo express Arg1 and MerTK, and the most relative number of Arg1+ and MerTK+ cells is concentrated in intermediate and nonclassic monocytes. During pregnancy the expression of researched molecules in monocytes reliably increases. An increase in MerTK expression is manifested by a simultaneous increase in the number of MerTK+ cells and the mean fluorescence intensity of this marker; it is observed in the 1st and 2nd trimesters and registered in all three monocyte subpopulations. At the same time, an increase in Arg1 expression is manifested either by an enhancement of Arg1+ cells, or an increase in receptor density; it is registered throughout pregnancy, including the 3rd trimester, and is maximally expressed in classic monocytes. There is a direct correlation between the number of Arg1+ and MerTK+ cells in intermediate Mo, which increases with the progression of pregnancy, and in the 3rd trimester is also detected in classical and non-classical Mo. In general, the revealed increase in the expression of Arg1 and MerTK by monocytes indicates an increase in the anti-inflammatory potential of monocytes during pregnancy, and the involvement of monocytes in the regulation of the inflammatory process at the system level. Moreover, the features of Arg1 and MerTK expression in various monocyte subpopulations during pregnancy suggest that monocytes expressing Arg1 and MerTK can mediate different mechanisms of immune adaptation during pregnancy

Observation of narrow baryon resonance decaying into pKs0pK^0_s in pA-interactions at 70GeV/c70 GeV/c with SVD-2 setup

SVD-2 experiment data have been analyzed to search for an exotic baryon state, the Θ+\Theta^+-baryon, in a pKs0pK^0_s decay mode at 70GeV/c70 GeV/c on IHEP accelerator. The reaction pA→pKs0+XpA \to pK^0_s+X with a limited multiplicity was used in the analysis. The pKs0pK^0_s invariant mass spectrum shows a resonant structure with M=1526±3(stat.)±3(syst.)MeV/c2M=1526\pm3(stat.)\pm 3(syst.) MeV/c^2 and Γ<24MeV/c2\Gamma < 24 MeV/c^2. The statistical significance of this peak was estimated to be of 5.6σ5.6 \sigma. The mass and width of the resonance is compatible with the recently reported Θ+\Theta^+- baryon with positive strangeness which was predicted as an exotic pentaquark (uuddsˉuudd\bar{s}) baryon state. The total cross section for Θ+\Theta^+ production in pN-interactions for XF≥0X_F\ge 0 was estimated to be (30÷120)μb(30\div120) \mu b and no essential deviation from A-dependence for inelastic events (∼A0.7)(\sim A^{0.7}) was found.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures, To be submitted to Yadernaya Fizika. v3-v5 - Some references added, minor typos correcte
