Spin- and valley-dependent transport through arrays of ferromagnetic silicene junctions
We study ballistic transport of Dirac fermions in silicene through arrays of
barriers, of width , in the presence of an exchange field and a tunable
potential of height or depth . The spin- and valley-resolved
conductances as functions of or , exhibit resonances away from the Dirac
point (DP) and close to it a pronounced dip that becomes a gap when a critical
electric field is applied. This gap widens by increasing the number of
barriers and can be used to realize electric field-controlled switching of the
current. The spin and valley polarizations of the current near the
DP increase with or and can reach 100\% for certain of their values.
These field ranges widen significantly by increasing the number of barriers.

Abrupt changes in alpha decay systematics as a manifestation of collective nuclear modes
An abrupt change in decay systematics around the N=126 neutron shell
closure is discussed. It is explained as a sudden hindrance of the clustering
of the nucleons that eventually form the particle. This is because the
clustering induced by the pairing mode acting upon the four nucleons is
inhibited if the configuration space does not allow a proper manifestation of

Vibrational dephasing in molecular mixed crystals:a picosecond time domain CARS study of pentacene in naphthalene and benzoic acid
Multiresonant time-domain coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) experiments have been employed in a study of the decay of vibrational coherences of pentacene doped into naphthalene and benzoic acid. In all cases, the CARS decay is found to be exponential, which indicates that the electronic and vibronic inhomogeneities in this system are strongly correlated. The temperature dependence of vibrational dephasing shows no effect of coupling to the lowest-frequency librational mode of pentacene that is known to dominate electronic dephasing. This surprising result can be understood on basis of a dephasing model where rapid coherence exchange exists between a cold vibrational transition and a corresponding near-resonant librationally hot one. For the 767 cm–1 vibrational transition, oscillations of the CARS signal as a function of delay are shown to arise from interference at the detector with a nearby naphthalene host signal. An inconsistency with a previously reported spontaneous Raman study is resolved by showing that the signal observed there is actually site-selected fluorescence
Intruder bands and configuration mixing in the lead isotopes
A three-configuration mixing calculation is performed in the context of the
interacting boson model with the aim to describe recently observed collective
bands built on low-lying states in neutron-deficient lead isotopes. The
configurations that are included correspond to the regular, spherical states as
well as two-particle two-hole and four-particle four-hole excitations across

In-gas-cell laser ionization spectroscopy in the vicinity of 100Sn: Magnetic moments and mean-square charge radii of N=50-54 Ag
In-gas-cell laser ionization spectroscopy studies on the neutron deficient
97-101Ag isotopes have been performed with the LISOL setup. Magnetic dipole
moments and mean-square charge radii have been determined for the first time
with the exception of 101Ag, which was found in good agreement with previous
experimental values. The reported results allow tentatively assigning the spin
of 97,99Ag to 9/2 and confirming the presence of an isomeric state in these two
isotopes, whose collapsed hyperfine structure suggests a spin of 1/2 . The
effect of the N=50 shell closure is not only manifested in the magnetic moments
but also in the evolution of the mean-square charge radii of the isotopes
investigated, in accordance with the spherical droplet model predictions
3.4 Physical activity in adolescents with juvenile idiopathic arthritis
OBJECTIVE: To explore physical activity (PA) in adolescents with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) compared with a healthy population and to examine associations between PA and disease-related factors. METHODS: Total energy expenditure (TEE), activity-related energy expenditure (AEE), PA level, and PA pattern were assessed with a 3-day activity diary. Aerobic capacity was assessed using a Symptom Limited Bicycle Ergometry test. Functional ability was assessed with the Childhood Health Assessment Questionnaire. Disease activity was assessed using Paediatric Rheumatology International Trials Organisation core set criteria. Overall well-being was measured using a visual analog scale, and time since diagnosis was assessed by retrospective study from patients' charts. We used a cross-sectional study design. Reference data were collected from healthy Dutch secondary school children. RESULTS: Thirty patients and 106 controls were included (mean +/- SD age 17.0 +/- 0.6 and 16.7 +/- 0.9 years, respectively). TEE, AEE, and PA level were significantly lower in the JIA group. The JIA group spent more time in bed and less time on moderate to vigorous PA. Only 23% of the JIA patients met public health recommendations to perform >/=1 hour daily moderate to vigorous PA compared with 66% in the reference group. Higher PA was associated with higher levels of well-being and maximal oxygen consumption. CONCLUSION: Adolescents with JIA have low PA levels and are at risk of losing the benefits of PA. Low PA is not related to disease activity, and control over the disease does not restore previous PA levels. Interventions by pediatric rheumatologists are needed to increase PA levels in patients with JIA
Higher order antibunching is not a rare phenomenon
Since the introduction of higher order nonclassical effects, higher order
squeezing has been reported in a number of different physical systems but
higher order antibunching is predicted only in three particular cases. In the
present work, we have shown that the higher order antibunching is not a rare
phenomenon rather it can be seen in many simple optical processes. To establish
our claim, we have shown it in six wave mixing process, four wave mixing

Low-energy Coulomb excitation of Fe and Mn following in-beam decay of Mn
Sub-barrier Coulomb-excitation was performed on a mixed beam of Mn and
Fe, following in-trap decay of Mn at REX-ISOLDE,
CERN. The trapping and charge breeding times were varied in order to alter the
composition of the beam, which was measured by means of an ionisation chamber
at the zero-angle position of the Miniball array. A new transition was observed
at 418~keV, which has been tentatively associated to a
transition. This fixes the relative
positions of the -decaying and states in Mn for
the first time. Population of the state was observed in Fe
and the cross-section determined by normalisation to the Ag target
excitation, confirming the value measured in recoil-distance lifetime
