Electrically Controlled Pumping of Spin Currents in Topological Insulators
Pure spin currents are shown to be generated by an electrically controlled
quantum pump applied at the edges of a topological insulator. The electric
rather than the more conventional magnetic control offers several advantages
and avoids, in particular, the necessity of delicate control of magnetization
dynamics over tiny regions. The pump is implemented by pinching the sample at
two quantum point contacts and phase modulating two external gate voltages
between them. The spin current is generated for the full range of parameters.
On the other hand, pumping via amplitude modulation of the inter-boundary
couplings generates both charge and spin currents, with a pure charge current
appearing only for special values of the parameters for which the Bohm-Aharonov
flux takes integer values. Our setup can therefore serve to fingerprint the
helical nature of the edges states with the zeros of the pumped spin and charge
currents occurring at distinct universal locations where the Fabry-Perot or the
Aharonov-Bohm phases take integer values.Comment: 5 pages, 5figure
Quantum pumping in deformable quantum dots
The charge current pumped adiabatically through a deformable quantum dot is
studied within the Green's function approach. Differently from the
non-deformable case, the current shows an undefined parity with respect to the
pumping phase \phi. The unconventional current-phase relation, analyzed in the
weak pumping regime, is due to a dynamical phase shift \phi_D caused by the
elastic deformations of the central region (classical phonons). The role of the
quality factor Q of the oscillator, the effects induced by a mechanical
resonance and the implications for current experiments on molecular systems are
also discussed

Nomenclature adjustments and new syntaxa of the arctic, alpine and oro-Mediterranean vegetation
During preparation of the European checklist of vegetation units (EuroVegChecklist), it became clear that some earlier described syntaxa need to be typified in order to stabilize nomenclature and some new syntaxa need to be described. Here we propose nomenclature adjustments and formal description of four new alliances
for the Arctic, alpine and oro-Mediterranean vegetation of Europe, Greenland and Anatolia. First, we typify the class Juncetea trifidi. Second, we describe four new alliances, such as the Puccinellion nuttallianae (Low-Arctic salt steppes of Greenland; class Saxifrago tricuspidatae-Calamagrostietea purpurascentis), Dryado octopetalae-
Caricion arctisibiricae (Arctic tundra vegetation of north-eastern European Russia; class Carici rupestris-Kobresietea bellardii), Leontopodio nivalis-Elynion myosuroidis (southern European alpine tundra vegetation; class Carici rupestris-Kobresietea bellardii) and Lagotido uralensis-Caricion ensifoliae (alpine tundra vegetation of the Southern Ural Mountains; class Juncetea trifidi). Two new associations are described within the first two of these alliances. Finally, we present an interpretation of the alliance Muscario-Scillion nivalis
Persistent spin and charge currents and magnification effects in open ring conductors subject to Rashba coupling
We analyze the effect of Rashba spin-orbit coupling and of a local tunnel
barrier on the persistent spin and charge currents in a one-dimensional
conducting Aharonov-Bohm (AB) ring symmetrically coupled to two leads. First,
as an important consequence of the spin-splitting, it is found that a
persistent spin current can be induced which is not simply proportional to the
charge current. Second, a magnification effect of the persistent spin current
is shown when one tunes the Fermi energy near the Fano-type antiresonances of
the total transmission coefficient governed by the tunnel barrier strength. As
an unambiguous signature of spin-orbit coupling we also show the possibility to
produce a persistent pure spin current at the interference zeros of the
transmittance. This widens the possibilities of employing mesoscopic conducting
rings in phase-coherent spintronics applications.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, to appear in PR
Rancang Bangun Aplikasi Pelayanan dan Rekam Medis Calon Tenaga Kerja Indonesia pada AL-HUDA MEDICAL CENTER
Al-Huda Medical Center is special unit of Al-Huda hospital which manages check-up service for Prospective Indonesian Migrant Worker (CTKI). Al-Huda Medical Center wants to improve the service process and medical record of CTKI using computer system. There are five main problems found in the field regarding this matter, they include (1) all data reports consisting of registration to medical record database is still in paper-based documents, (2) the registration number is processed manually, (3) there is no barcode in health certificate, (4) specimen is labelled using handwriting (5) registration report, medical record, form, and film paper is done manually in terms of calculation and writing. The solution offered for the aforementioned problems is developing a web-based application which is able to manage service process, medical record, and report. Furthermore, this application provides health certificate which fulfills the standardization of the destination country of CTKI. This application also offers the more accurate reports compared to paper-based documentation
Last Progress in CdTe/CdS Thin Film Solar Cell Fabrication Process
AbstractIn the past, we described a dry process for the fabrication of CdTe/CdS thin film solar cells. In this process, most of the layers composing the cell, namely ITO, ZnO, CdS and back contact are deposited by sputtering and CdTe is deposited by close-spaced sublimation. The treatment of CdTe is done at 400°C, for 10-20minutes, without CdCl2, by using a Freon gas, dichlorofluoromethane, as a Cl supplier. Back contact is made by depositing onto a not-etched CdTe film surface a buffer layer of As2Te3, followed by a thin layer of Cu and Mo. Recently, we modified the Cl-treatment and we improved the quality of the back contact. Since dichlorofluoromethane is an ozone depleting agent and its use is now forbidden, we replaced it with a gas, like Ar, containing 4%HCl and mixing it with a Fluorine-containing gas, such as CHF3. Both these gases are not depleting agents and they aren't forbidden. By adjusting the relative amounts of the chemical species into this mixture, we got results which are very similar to those obtained with dichlorofluoromethane. Concerning the back contact, we discovered that, by using as a buffer layer As2Te3, or Bi2Te3 and by making an annealing in air at 200°C for 15-30minutes, a stable and ohmic contact, without any rollover in the solar cell I-V characteristic, is obtained
Arthroscopic Anterior Shoulder Stabilization With Incorporation of a Comminuted Bony Bankart Lesion.
Bony Bankart lesions are a common finding in patients with anterior glenohumeral dislocation. Although there are no defined guidelines, small bony Bankart fractures are typically treated arthroscopically with suture anchors. The 2 main techniques used are double- and single-row suture anchor stabilization, with debate over superiority. Biomechanical studies have shown improved reduction and stabilization with the double-row over the single-row suture anchor technique; however, this has not been reported for small or comminuted bony fragments. Both techniques have shown promising preliminary clinical outcomes. In this Technical Note, we describe our preferred technique for arthroscopic instability repair using a single-row all-suture anchor method with the incorporation of a comminuted bony Bankart fragment in the lateral decubitus position
A remark on alpha vacua for quantum field theories on de Sitter space
It is shown that the so-called -vacua which have been proposed as
candidates for states of free quantum fields on de Sitter space have infinitely
strong fluctuations for typical observables as averaged renormalized energy
