Signum Function Method for Generation of Correlated Dichotomic Chains
We analyze the signum-generation method for creating random dichotomic
sequences with prescribed correlation properties. The method is based on a
binary mapping of the convolution of continuous random numbers with some
function originated from the Fourier transform of a binary correlator. The goal
of our study is to reveal conditions under which one can construct binary
sequences with a given pair correlator. Our results can be used in the
construction of superlattices and waveguides with selective transport
properties.Comment: 14 pages, 7 figure
Automated characterization of single-photon avalanche photodiode
We report an automated characterization of a single-photon detector based on
commercial silicon avalanche photodiode (PerkinElmer C30902SH). The photodiode
is characterized by I-V curves at different illumination levels (darkness, 10
pW and 10 uW), dark count rate and photon detection efficiency at different
bias voltages. The automated characterization routine is implemented in C++
running on a Linux computer.Comment: Have permission to post journal-formatted version on arXi
Selective Transparence of Single-Mode Waveguides with Surface Scattering
A random surface scattering in a one-mode waveguide is studied in the case
when the surface profile has long-range correlations along the waveguide.
Analytical treatment of this problem shows that with a proper choice of the
surface, one can arrange any desired combination of transparent and
non-transparent frequency windows. We suggest a method to find such profiles,
and demonstrate its effectiveness by making use of direct numerical
simulations.Comment: RevTex, 3 pages including 2 ps-figure
