    New Organic Polymers for Solar Cells

    From the moment of conductive polyacetylene discovery, semiconducting polymers and other organic thin films and multilayers are important for a wide range of applications, including electronics, photovoltaics and sensors. The main idea of this chapter is the synthesis of new conjugated donor and acceptor polymers and development of organic solar cells on their basis. As donor polymers were used modified polyanilines (PANIs) and its dopants, as acceptor compounds - the fullerene C60 derivatives. Experimental prototypes of organic solar cells were obtained on the basis of binary donor-acceptor layers and bulk heterojunctions, consisting of novel polyaniline derivatives and fullerene-contained polymers. The current-voltage characteristics of solar cells were measured and the values of such parameters, such as open-circuit voltage, short-circuit current, fill factor and power conversion efficiency, were calculated.     The ability to extract the pulse width and translate it into the actual disk width of the Extensive Air Showers (EAS) is a hard one requiring accurate knowledge of the system performance. For that, the analysis for the cable calibration for Horizon-10T detectors has been re-analyzed in a different form that allows for better signal width measurements. An innovative detector system Horizon-10T, constructed to study EAS in the energy range above 1016 eV coming from a wide range of zenith angles (0o - 85o), is located at Tien Shan high-altitude Science Station of Lebedev Physical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences at approximately 3340 meters above the sea level.Comment: in-depth analysis of cable calibration for 'new' cables only v2 corrects minor typo

    Estimation Method for Vector Field Divergence of Earth Crust Deformations in the Process of Mineral Deposits Development

    An essential requirement for effective and safe deposit development is good geomechanical software. Nowadays software packages based on finite element method are used extensively to estimate stress-strain state of the rock mass. Their quality use can only be assured if boundary conditions and integral mechanical properties of the rock mass are known. In mining engineering this objective has always been achieved by means of experimental observations. The main source of information on initial and man-induced stress-strain state of the rock mass is natural measurement of displacement characteristics. Measurement of geodetic data (coordinates, heights, directions) in the period between alteration cycles allows to plot a field of displacement vectors for the points in question. Taken together, displacement vectors provide information on the objective stress-strain state of the Earth crust. Basing on it, strain tensors, displacement components, directions and rates of compression and tension can be calculated in the examined area. However, differential characteristics of any physical vector field – namely, curl and divergence – need to be taken into account. Divergence is a single value (scalar) associated with a single point. Vector field as a whole can be described with divergence scalar field. Divergence indicates the sign (positive or negative) of volume changes in the infinitesimal region of space and characterizes vector flux in the nearest proximity and in all directions from a given point. In the paper authors propose a method to estimate divergence using discrete geodetic observations of displacement occurring on the surface of examined territory. It requires construction of formulas that model vector field for any point of the area. It is proposed to use power polynomials that describe displacement in three directions (x, y, z). These formulas allow to estimate field vectors in any given point, i.e. to form vector tubes. Then areas of input and output cross-section, as well as divergence values are calculated. This increases the quality of geodetic observation and provides opportunities for more precise modeling of the rock mass disrupted by mining operations, using modern software packages

The thermal reaction leads to the N-dimethoxythiophosphorylhydrazone of benzophenone and O,O-dimethyl S-(diphenylmethyl) thiophosphate.     Perforated Peptic Ulcer Combined with Posttraumatic Diaphragmatic Hernia in Third Gestation Trimester: a Clinical Case

    Background. Gastric and duodenal ulcers are extremely rare in pregnancy, according to published literature. Peptic ulcer is found in 1 per 4,000 pregnant women, a figure probably underestimated due to its hampered diagnosis in pregnancy. Pregnancy peptic ulcer is considered less expected. Perforated gastric and duodenal ulcers comprise about 1.5 % of total acute abdominal diseases, and the perforation rate in ulcer patients ranges within 5–15 %. This complication afflicts the ages of 20–40 years in men much more frequently than in women. Three perforation types occur: free into abdominal cavity (87 %), contained (9 %), into lesser omentum and retroperitoneal tissue (4 %).Materials and methods. The clinical case describes surgical management of posttraumatic diaphragmatic hernia-comorbid perforated gastric ulcer in a pregnant woman in third trimester. Surgery with postoperative patient management enabled for a favourable outcome.Results and discussion. Perforation-entailing gastric and duodenal ulcers in pregnant women have received negligible attention due to rarity in clinical practice. Paul et al. described 14 cases of duodenal perforation in pregnancy, all fatal.Conclusion. Early diagnosis of surgical pathology during gestation is still difficult contributing to the development of severe complications associated with high mortality. The patient’s admission to a level III interspecialty hospital was key to enable a timely consilium-driven decision of caesarean intervention for saving the child, diagnosing intraoperatively life-threatening complicated surgical diseases and opting for radical surgery that ended in a favourable outcome

    Longitudinal genetic studies of cognitive characteristics

    The present review describes longitudinal studies of cognitive traits and functions determining the causes of their variations and their possible correction to prevent cognitive impairment. The present study reviews the involvement of such environmental factors as nutrition, prenatal maternal stress, social isolation and others in cognitive functioning. The role of epigenetic factors in the implementation of environmental effects in cognitive characteristics is revealed. Considering the epigenome significance, several studies were focused on the design of substances affecting methylation and histone modification, which can be used for the treatment of cognitive disorders. The appropriate correction of epigenetic factors related to environmental differences in cognitive abilities requires to determine the mechanisms of chromatin modifications and variations in DNA methylation. Transposons representing stress-sensitive DNA elements appeared to mediate the environmental influence on epigenetic modifications. They can explain the mechanism of transgenerational transfer of information on cognitive abilities. Recently, large-scale meta-analyses based on the results of studies, which identified genetic associations with various cognitive traits, were carried out. As a result, the role of genes actively expressed in the brain, such as BDNF, COMT, CADM2, CYP2D6, APBA1, CHRNA7, PDE1C, PDE4B, and PDE4D in cognitive abilities was revealed. The association between cognitive functioning and genes, which have been previously involved in developing psychiatric disorders (MEF2C, CYP2D6, FAM109B, SEPT3, NAGA, TCF20, NDUFA6 genes), was revealed, thus indicating the role of the similar mechanisms of genetic and neural networks in both normal cognition and cognitive impairment. An important role in both processes belongs to common epigenetic factors. The genes involved in DNA methylation (DNMT1, DNMT3B, and FTO), histone modifications (CREBBP, CUL4B, EHMT1, EP300, EZH2, HLCS, HUWE1, KAT6B, KMT2A, KMT2D, KMT2C, NSD1, WHSC1, and UBE2A) and chromatin remodeling (ACTB, ARID1A, ARID1B, ATRX, CHD2, CHD7, CHD8, SMARCA2, SMARCA4, SMARCB1, SMARCE1, SRCAP, and SS18L1) are associated with increased risk of psychiatric diseases with cognitive deficiency together with normal cognitive functioning. The data on the correlation between transgenerational epigenetic inheritance of cognitive abilities and the insert of transposable elements in intergenic regions is discussed. Transposons regulate genes functioning in the brain due to the processing of their transcripts into non-coding RNAs. The content, quantity and arrangement of transposable elements in human genome, which do not affect changes in nucleotide sequences of protein encoding genes, but affect their expression, can be transmitted to the next generation

    Genetic basis of depressive disorders

    Depression is a common mental disorder being one of the main causes of disability and mortality worldwide. Despite an intensive research during the past decades, the etiology of depressive disorders (DDs) remains incompletely understood; however, genetic factors are significantly involved in the liability to depression. The present review is focused on the studies based on a candidate gene approach, genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and whole exome sequencing (WES), which previously demonstrated associations between gene polymorphisms and DDs. According to the first approach, DD development is affected by serotonergic (TPH1, TPH2, HTR1A, HTR2A, and SLC6A4), dopaminergic (DRD4, SLC6A3) and noradrenergic (SLC6A2) system genes, and genes of enzymatic degradation (MAOA, COMT). In addition, there is evidence of the involvement of HPA-axis genes (OXTR, AVPR1A, and AVPR1B), sex hormone receptors genes (ESR1, ESR2, and AR), neurotrophin (BDNF) and methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) genes, neuronal apoptosis (CASP3, BCL-XL, BAX, NPY, APP, and GRIN1) and inflammatory system (TNF, CRP, IL6, IL1B, PSMB4, PSMD9, and STAT3) genes in DD development. The results of the second approach (GWAS and WES) revealed that the PCLO, SIRT1, GNL3, GLT8D1, ITIH3, MTNR1A, BMP5, FHIT, KSR2, PCDH9, and AUTS2 genes predominantly responsible for neurogenesis and cell adhesion are involved in liability to depression. Therefore, the findings discussed suggest that genetic liability to DD is a complex process, which assumes simultaneous functioning of multiple genes including those reported previously, and requires future research in this field
