The evolutionary status of the UX Orionis star RZ Piscium

The star RZ Psc is one of the most enigmatic members of the UX Ori star family. It shows all properties that are typical for these stars (the light variability, high linear polarization in deep minima, the blueing effect) except for one: it lacks any signatures of youth. With the Li I line, as a rough estimate for the stellar age, we show that the "lithium" age of RZ Psc lies between the age of stars in the Pleiades (approximately 70 Myr) and the Orion (approximately 10 Myr) clusters. We also roughly estimated the age of RZ Psc based on the proper motion of the star using the Tycho-2 catalog. We found that the star has escaped from its assumed birthplace near to the Galactic plane about 30-40 Myr ago. We conclude that RZ Psc is a post-UXOr star, and its sporadic eclipses are caused by material from the debris disk

    Non-geometric branes are DFT monopoles

© 2016, The Author(s).The double field theory monopole solution by Berman and Rudolph is shown to reproduce non-geometric backgrounds with non-vanishing Q- and R-flux upon an appropriate choice of physical and dual coordinates. The obtained backgrounds depend non-trivially on dual coordinates and have only trivial monodromies. Upon smearing the solutions along the dual coordinates one reproduces the known 522 solution for the Q-brane and co-dimension 1 solution for the R-brane. The T-duality invariant magnetic charge is explicitly calculated for all these backgrounds and is found to be equal to the magnetic charge of (unsmeared) NS5-brane

Comments on QED with background electric fields

It is well known that there is a total cancellation of the \emph{factorizable} IR divergences in unitary interacting field theories, such as QED and quantum gravity. In this note we show that such a cancellation does not happen in QED with background electric fields which can produce pairs. There is no factorization of the IR divergences.Comment: 14 pages, 1 figur

Regional lymphatic stimulation and ozonized solutions in the prevention of complications after appendectomy with an atypical location of the appendix (pilot study)

Acute appendicitis still predominates among surgical diseases. Despite the improvement in the technique of surgical intervention and treatment, the frequency of its complications ranges from 2 to 14%, which requires improvement of measures to prevent complications during operations and in the postoperative period. The aim of our work was to evaluate the effectiveness of the use of regional lymphatic stimulation and ozonized solutions in the prevention of complications after appendectomy with an atypical location of the appendix. Material and methods. The analysis included 45 patients with an atypical location of the appendix. Retrocecal was found in 25, retroperitoneal – in 12, and mesoceacal – in 8 patients. To assess the preventive measures used, 2 groups were identified. The comparison group consisted of 21 patients who received traditional treatment after surgery (to prevent complications antibiotics – ampicillin 1.0 g 4 times or gentamicin 80 mg 2 times a day for 4–5 days), pain relievers and infusion therapy. The main group included 24 patients who received regional lymphatic stimulation of the transitional fold of the peritoneum of the ileocecal region and the mesentery of the ileum, irrigation of the bed of the removed process and the surgical wound before suturing with ozonized sodium chloride solution with an ozone concentration of 8–10 μg/ml. In the diagnosis of appendicitis, clinical, laboratory (leukocyte count, leukocyte intoxication index) signs of the disease, and ultrasound were used. Results. In the comparison group, after surgery, suppuration appeared in 4 patients, wound infiltration was in 3 cases, early adhesive intestinal obstruction emerged once. Relaparatomy was performed with a favorable outcome. In the main group, one case of suppuration and infiltration of a postoperative wound was observed. By the time of discharge, all complications have been cured. There were no lethal outcomes. The hospital stay in the comparison group was 8.1 ± 0.37 bed-days, in the main group – 6.6 ± 0.12. Conclusions. The use of regional lymphatic stimulation can reduce the incidence of complications and shorten the length of hospital stay

Chemical composition of 15 photometric analogues of the sun

The results of a spectroscopic analysis of 15 stars that are photometric analogues of the Sun are reported. The effective temperatures and surface gravities in the stellar atmospheres are derived from published photometric indices and the HIPPARCOS parallaxes. The abundances of 33 elements ranging from lithium to europium are analyzed based on high-dispersion spectra taken with the new Coudé echelle spectrometer of the Terskol Observatory in the northern Caucasus. The main parameters of most of the stars agree with the data of an [Fe/H] catalog published in 2001. Our study of the chemical compositions of the sample stars indicates that photometric analogues of the Sun can be divided into three groups according to their elemental abundances: six stars have solar chemical composition, four have abundance excesses, and five have some abundance deficiencies. The sample contains two metal-deficient subgiants (HD 133002 and HD 225239). Our results demonstrate that photometric similarity is not a sufficient criterion to consider a star as solar analogue. When several criteria, including chemical composition, are simultaneously taken into account, only four stars from the sample can be considered true solar analogues: HD 10307, HD 34411, HD 146233 (18 Sco), and HD 186427 (16 Cyg B). These results confirm the previously published suggestion that 18 Sco is the most probable twin of the Sun: essentially all the parameters of the two stars coincide within the errors. © 2004 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica"

The purpose of the research is to study the infection of diurnal birds of prey of the order Falconiformes with helminths and to determine the helminth species composition by the example of the Noyev Kovcheg Conservation Nature’s Nursery in the Altai Territory.Materials and methods. We studied diurnal birds of prey of the order Falconiformes for helminthosis in the Altai Territory, in the Noyev Kovcheg Conservation Nature’s Nursery, in 2022. For the parasitological study of birds, we used laboratory methods of helminthocoprological studies: helminthoovoscopy and helminthoscopy. Species identification was determined by characteristic morphological features of helminth eggs, larvae and fragments. To assess the infeсtion with certain types of helminths, we used standard indicators for parasitological research, namely, infection prevalence and infection intensity amplitude. Results and discussion. In 58 studied diurnal birds of prey of the order Falconiformes, 8 helminth species were identified of which 6 nematode species, namely, Ascaridia galli, Tetrameres sobolevi, Capillaria caudinflata, Heterakis gallinarum, Trichostrongylus spp., and Singamus trachea; 1 trematode species, Strigea spp.; and 1 cestode species, Raillietina echinobothrida. These species occurred throughout all seasons of 2022

The atmospheric lithium abundances of solar analogues

We have analyzed the lithium abundance in the atmospheres of 20 stars that are solar analogues based on high-resolution echelle spectra using model atmospheres in a non-LTE approach. In terms of their lithium abundances, the stars (which are located in a narrow range of temperatures of 5650-5900 K) can be divided into two groups: one with low lithium abundances, as in the solar atmosphere, and one with lithium abundances that are higher than the solar value by about 1 dex (with the accuracy of the lithium abundances being 0.15 dex). © 2004 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica"

Exotic branes in Exceptional Field Theory: the SL(5) duality group

© 2018, The Author(s). We study how exotic branes, i.e. branes whose tensions are proportional to gs− α, with α > 2, are realised in Exceptional Field Theory (EFT). The generalised torsion of the Weitzenböck connection of the SL(5) EFT which, in the language of gauged supergravity describes the embedding tensor, is shown to classify the exotic branes whose magnetic fluxes can fit into four internal dimensions. By analysing the weight diagrams of the corresponding representations of SL(5) we determine the U-duality orbits relating geometric and non-geometric fluxes. As a further application of the formalism we consider the Kaluza-Klein monopole of 11D supergravity and rotate it into the exotic 6(3,1)-brane
