    Towards a Realization of the Condensed-Matter/Gravity Correspondence in String Theory via Consistent Abelian Truncation

    We present an embedding of the 3-dimensional relativistic Landau-Ginzburg model for condensed matter systems in an N=6\mathcal{N}=6, U(N)×U(N)U(N)\times U(N) Chern-Simons-matter theory (the ABJM model) by consistently truncating the latter to an abelian effective field theory encoding the collective dynamics of O(N){\cal O}(N) of the O(N2){\cal O}(N^2) modes. In fact, depending on the VEV on one of the ABJM scalars, a mass deformation parameter μ\mu and the Chern-Simons level number kk, our abelianization prescription allows us to interpolate between the abelian Higgs model with its usual multi-vortex solutions and a ϕ4\phi^4 theory. We sketch a simple condensed matter model that reproduces all the salient features of the abelianization.     Performance Analysis of Transmit Antenna Selection with MRC in MIMO for Image Transmission in Multipath Fading Channels Using Simulink

    Multiple antenna configurations can be used to increase the data throughput reducing the effects of multipath fading and interference when channel bandwidth is limited. Orthogonal Space Time Block Codes along with Transmit antenna selection can improve the performance of multiple input multiple output systems. In this paper, we present the Transmit Antenna Selection (TAS) technique based on the Maximal Ratio Combining (MRC) scheme with single antenna selection for image transmission. The performance analysis of the system was carried out under different fading channels i.e. Rayleigh and Rician channel for image input. We design end to end TAS/MRC system in Simulink with advancements in the channel designs and receive diversity techniques along with the feedback models. The Bit Error Rate (BER) analysis was performed for the combinations of number of transmit and receive antennas for TAS/MRC system for various fading environments

    Calculations of spin induced transport in ferromagnets

    Based on first-principles density functional calculations, a general approach for determining and analyzing the degree of spin polarization (P) in ferromagnets is presented. The approach employs the so-called tetrahedron method to evaluate the Fermi surface integrations of P in both ballistic and diffusive regimes. The validity of the method is examined by comparing the calculated P values for Fe and Ni with the experiment. The method is shown to yield highly accurate results with minimal computational effort. Within our approach, it is also possible to systematically analyze the contributions of various types of electronic states to the spin induced transport. As a case study, the transport properties of the soft-ferromagnet CeMnNi4 are investigated in order to explain the origin of the existing difference between the experimental and theoretical values of P in this intermetallic compound.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures; to appear in Physical Review B 75 (2007

    ADULTICIDAL ACTIVITY OF BOTANICAL OILS BY IMPREGNATED PAPER ASSAY AGAINST CULEX QUINQUEFASCIATUS SAY

    Objective: The present study was undertaken with the aim of finding out the efficacy of essential oils (EOs) as anti-mosquito agents for commercial purposes. Plant source insecticides as an alternative to chemical insecticide, this study were evaluated to assess the knock-down and adulticidal prospective of the essential oils against Culex quinquefasciatus. The plant essential oil is largely cultivated throughout India and in all Tropical countries.Methods: The selected botanical essential oils were procured from commercial producers of plant essential oils and aromatic substances were used in this study. Knock-down and Adulticidal bioassay was performed according to WHO protocol. A single dose of the essential oils was used in the preliminary screening. 20 adult mosquitoes (3-5 d old glucose fed mosquitoes) were exposed on treated paper for one hour and knocked down and live mosquitoes were counted at 5 minute intervals.Results: Among the twenty three oils tested, 100% knock-down and adult mortality was recorded at 10%/cm2dose of calamus, camphor, cinnamon, citronella, clove, eucalyptus, lemongrass, pine, thyme and tulsi oils respectively. At 10 % concentration, clove oil (KT50 =1.8 and KT90 = 2.03 min) was found to be the most potential treatment. After 15 min exposure period clove oil registered the lowest knock-down dosewhich was calculated as (KD50 =1.8 %/cm2and KD90 =11.2 %/cm2). The lower and upper 95 % confidence limits for clove oil were calculated as 0.2 and 4.2 min respectively.Conclusion: From the results it can be concluded that the adult of the Cx. quinquefasciatus were susceptible to the essential oils. Such findings would be useful in promoting research aiming at the development of new agent for mosquito control on basis of chemical compounds from indigenous plant sources as an alternative to chemicals

The ethyl C atoms of the ethoxy­cabonyl group are disordered over two positions with occupancies of ca 0.80 and 0.20. Intra­molecular N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds form S(5) and S(6) ring motifs. Mol­ecules are linked into a three-dimensional framework by O—H⋯O, N—H⋯O and C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, and by C—H⋯π inter­actions
