    中国の裁判所と保険会社の2組織の従業員に権威に関する調査を実施した。権威についてどのようにとらえているか、上司と部下との間の権威の関係である権威勾配、上司や組織への忠誠心などを質問紙によって調査を行った。上司が威圧的であるととらえる者ほど(権威勾配が急であるほど)、面従腹背の傾向が強く、組織や上司への忠誠心が低いことがわかった。日系企業の現地化の際の「二重構造」の問題を権威勾配と関係付けて議論した

    Roles of Protease-Activated Receptor-2 in Atherogenesis

    Background: The coagulation system is closely linked with vascular inflammation, although the underlying mechanisms are still obscure. Recent studies show that protease-activated receptor (PAR)-2, a major receptor of activated factor X (FXa), are expressed in both vascular cells and leukocytes, suggesting that PAR-2 may contribute to the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases. Here we investigated the role of PAR-2 in vascular inflammation and atherogenesis. Methods: We generated apolipoprotein E-deficient (ApoE-/-) mice lacking systemic PAR-2 expression (PAR-2-/-ApoE-/-). ApoE-/- mice which lack or express PAR-2 only in bone-marrow (BM) cells were also generated by BM transplantation. Atherosclerotic lesions were investigated after 20 weeks on a western-type diet (WTD) by histological analyses, quantitative RT-PCR, and western blotting. In vitro experiments using BM-derived macrophages were performed to confirm pro-inflammatory roles of PAR-2. The association between plasma FXa level and the severity of coronary atherosclerosis was also examined in humans who underwent coronary intervention. Results: PAR-2-/-ApoE-/- mice showed reduced atherosclerotic lesions in the aortic arch (P<0.05) along with features of stabilized atherosclerotic plaques such as less lipid deposition (P<0.05), collagen loss (P<0.01), macrophage accumulation (P<0.05), and inflammatory molecule expression (P<0.05) compared with ApoE-/- mice. Systemic PAR2 deletion in ApoE-/- mice significantly decreased the expression of inflammatory molecules in the aorta. The results of BM transplantation experiments demonstrated that PAR-2 in hematopoietic cells contributed to atherogenesis in ApoE-/- mice. PAR-2 deletion did not alter metabolic parameters. In vitro experiments demonstrated that FXa or a specific peptide agonist of PAR-2 significantly increased expression of inflammatory molecules and lipid uptake in BM-derived macrophages from wild-type mice compared with those from PAR-2-deficient mice. Activation of NF-κB signaling was involved in PAR-2-associated vascular inflammation and macrophage activation. In humans who underwent coronary intervention, plasma FXa level independently correlated with the severity of coronary atherosclerosis as determined by Gensini score (P<0.05) and plaque volume (P<0.01). Conclusions: PAR-2 signaling activates macrophages and promotes vascular inflammation, increasing atherosclerosis in ApoE-/- mice. This signaling pathway may also participate in atherogenesis in humans

    Clinical Features of Autoimmune Autonomic Ganglionopathy and the Detection of Subunit-Specific Autoantibodies to the Ganglionic Acetylcholine Receptor in Japanese Patients

    Autoimmune autonomic ganglionopathy (AAG) is a rare acquired channelopathy that is characterized by pandysautonomia, in which autoantibodies to ganglionic nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (gAChR) may play a central role. Radioimmunoprecipitation (RIP) assays have been used for the sensitive detection of autoantibodies to gAChR in the serum of patients with AAG. Here, we developed luciferase immunoprecipitation systems (LIPS) to diagnose AAG based on IgGs to both the α3 and β4 gAChR subunits in patient serum. We reviewed the serological and clinical data of 50 Japanese patients who were diagnosed with AAG. With the LIPS testing, we detected anti-α3 and -β4 gAChR antibodies in 48% (24/50) of the patients. A gradual mode of onset was more common in the seropositive group than in the seronegative group. Patients with AAG frequently have orthostatic hypotension and upper and lower gastrointestinal tract symptoms, with or without anti-gAChR. The occurrence of autonomic symptoms was not significantly different between the seropositive and seronegative group, with the exception of achalasia in three patients from the seropositive group. In addition, we found a significant overrepresentation of autoimmune diseases in the seropositive group and endocrinological abnormalities as an occasional complication of AAG. Our results demonstrated that the LIPS assay was a useful novel tool for detecting autoantibodies against gAChR in patients with AAG

    Abstract: In this paper, we examine the ethico-legal issue of P2P file sharing and copyright infringement in two different countries -Japan and Sweden -to explore the differences in attitude and behaviour towards file sharing from a socio-cultural perspective. We adopt a comparative case study approach focusing on one Japanese case, the Winny case, and a Swedish case, the Pirate Bay case. Whereas similarities in attitudes and behaviour towards file sharing using P2P software between the two countries are found in this study, the Swedish debate on file sharing has been coloured by an ideological and political dimension, which is absent in the Japanese context. This might indicate that Swedes have been more interested in issues of right and wrong, and the creation of political subject of piracy, while the Japanese are more interested in their own individual well being

    Various optically active 2-hydroxyamide derivatives are produced based on the kinetic resolution of racemic 2-hydroxyamides with a diphenylacetyl component and (R)-benzotetramisole ((R)-BTM), a chiral acyl-transfer catalyst, via asymmetric esterification and acylation. It was revealed that a tertiary amide can be used with this novel protocol to achieve high selectivity (22 examples; s-value reaching over 250). The resulting chiral compounds could be transformed into other useful structures while maintaining their chirality

    Risk Factors for Motor Vehicle Collisions in Patients with Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma: A Multicenter Prospective Cohort Study.

    PURPOSE:To identify the incidence rate of motor vehicle collisions (MVCs) in patients with no ocular pathology other than primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and determine the putative risk factors for MVCs in this group of patients. METHODS:We designed a prospective cohort study across three centers utilizing a consecutive sampling method to identify all patients with POAG between the ages of 40 and 80 years old. Patients with glaucoma were consecutively screened for eligibility. All study participants answered a questionnaire about motor vehicle collisions at baseline, and answered the questionnaire again every 12 months (± 1 month) after baseline for three years. A binocular integrated visual field was calculated for each patient by merging a patient's monocular Humphrey Field Analyzer (HFA) visual fields (VFs), using the 'best sensitivity' method. Patients with incident MVCs were defined as the "MVC+" group and patients without incident MVCs were defined as the "MVC-" group. Adjusted odds ratios for the incidence of MVCs were estimated with a logistic regression model. RESULTS:One hundred and ninety-one Japanese POAG patients were analyzed in this study. The age of the participants was 63.7 ± 10.2 [mean ± standard deviation]. A total of 28 participants experienced a MVC during the follow up period of three years (4.9% per year). Ten patients (5.2%) experienced a MVC in the first year, 13 patients (6.8%) in the second year, and 11 patients (5.8%) in the third year (some patients experienced multiple MVCs over different years). Best corrected visual acuity in the worst eye was significantly worse in the MVC+ group (0.03 ± 0.01, mean ± standard deviation, LogMar) compared with the MVC- group (0.01 ± 0.003, p = 0.01), and was the only variable identified as a significant predictor of future MVCs in the multiple logistic regression model [odds ratio: 1.2, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.1 to 1.4]. CONCLUSION:Deterioration in visual acuity in the worst eye is a risk factor for future MVCs in patients with POAG

    Predictive Value of Neutrophil–Lymphocyte Ratio as a Marker in Antiresorptive Agent-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw: A Retrospective Analysis

    Antiresorptive agent-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (ARONJ), a multifactorial disease, can drastically affect a patient’s quality of life. Moreover, disease progression to severe acute inflammation can hinder treatment. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the diagnostic value of the neutrophil–lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet–lymphocyte ratio (PLR) in predicting the risk of acute inflammation in patients with ARONJ. In total, 147 patients with ARONJ were enrolled between 1 January 2011 and 31 December 2019. They were divided into two groups according to their baseline NLR (high NLR vs. low NLR) or PLR (high PLR vs. low PLR) to analyze the relationship between NLR and PLR and the outcomes of acute inflammatory events. An optimal NLR cut-off value of 2.83 was identified for hospitalization for an inflammatory event. Logistic regression analysis showed that NLR > 2.83 was associated with an increased risk of hospitalization for an inflammatory event. A PLR cut-off value of 165.2 was identified for hospitalization for an inflammatory event. However, logistic regression analysis showed that PLR > 165.2 was not significantly associated with hospitalization for an inflammatory event. Our study findings suggest that the NLR has diagnostic value in predicting the risk of hospitalization for inflammatory events among patients with ARONJ

    Factors associated with developing a fear of falling in subjects with primary open-angle glaucoma

    Abstract Background To investigate the relationship between clinical risk factors, including visual field (VF) defects and visual acuity, and a fear of falling, among patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). Methods All participants answered the following question at a baseline ophthalmic examination: Are you afraid of falling? The same question was then answered every 12 months for 3 years. A binocular integrated visual field was calculated by merging a patient’s monocular Humphrey field analyzer VFs, using the ‘best sensitivity’ method. The means of total deviation values in the whole, superior peripheral, superior central, inferior central, and inferior peripheral VFs were calculated. The relationship between these mean VF measurements, and various clinical factors, against patients’ baseline fear of falling and future fear of falling was analyzed using multiple logistic regression. Results Among 392 POAG subjects, 342 patients (87.2%) responded to the fear of falling question at least twice in the 3 years study period. The optimal regression model for patients’ baseline fear of falling included age, gender, mean of total deviation values in the inferior peripheral VF and number of previous falls. The optimal regression equation for future fear of falling included age, gender, mean of total deviation values in the inferior peripheral VF and number of previous falls. Conclusion Defects in the inferior peripheral VF area are significantly related to the development of a fear of falling
