Historical masonry structures that connecting the past to the present have great importance because they represent the experiences and characteristics of various cultures. Therefore, the protection of historical structures is important. In this study, the structural response of the historical masonry Mosque was evaluated through dynamic analyses. For this purpose, the Sütlü Minaret Mosque which is located in Malatya, Turkey, was investigated. The three-dimensional model of the historical mosque was generated with ANSYS software. The material properties of the mosque were obtained with experimental tests. The time history analyses were used to obtain the seismic behavior of masonry mosque. In the time history analyses, six different strong ground motion records, including the 2020 Elazığ earthquake, were used. After the analysis, displacement and stress values in the mosque were given. The absolute peak displacement value among these earthquake records was obtained from the 1999 Düzce earthquake and the highest principal compressive and tensile stress values were determined for the 2010 Darfield earthquake. Also, the crack regions which occurred in the mosque after the 2020 Elazığ earthquake were compared with the dynamic analysis result of the 2020 Elazığ earthquake. The crack regions formed after the Elazığ earthquake are similar to the possible crack regions formed after the dynamic analysis

Perception-Distortion Trade-off in the SR Space Spanned by Flow Models

Flow-based generative super-resolution (SR) models learn to produce a diverse set of feasible SR solutions, called the SR space. Diversity of SR solutions increases with the temperature (τ\tau) of latent variables, which introduces random variations of texture among sample solutions, resulting in visual artifacts and low fidelity. In this paper, we present a simple but effective image ensembling/fusion approach to obtain a single SR image eliminating random artifacts and improving fidelity without significantly compromising perceptual quality. We achieve this by benefiting from a diverse set of feasible photo-realistic solutions in the SR space spanned by flow models. We propose different image ensembling and fusion strategies which offer multiple paths to move sample solutions in the SR space to more desired destinations in the perception-distortion plane in a controllable manner depending on the fidelity vs. perceptual quality requirements of the task at hand. Experimental results demonstrate that our image ensembling/fusion strategy achieves more promising perception-distortion trade-off compared to sample SR images produced by flow models and adversarially trained models in terms of both quantitative metrics and visual quality.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in IEEE ICIP 2022 Conferenc

From Noon to Sunset: Interactive Rendering, Relighting, and Recolouring of Landscape Photographs by Modifying Solar Position

Image editing is a commonly studied problem in computer graphics. Despite the presence of many advanced editing tools, there is no satisfactory solution to controllably update the position of the sun using a single image. This problem is made complicated by the presence of clouds, complex landscapes, and the atmospheric effects that must be accounted for. In this paper, we tackle this problem starting with only a single photograph. With the user clicking on the initial position of the sun, our algorithm performs several estimation and segmentation processes for finding the horizon, scene depth, clouds, and the sky line. After this initial process, the user can make both fine- and large-scale changes on the position of the sun: it can be set beneath the mountains or moved behind the clouds practically turning a midday photograph into a sunset (or vice versa). We leverage a precomputed atmospheric scattering algorithm to make all of these changes not only realistic but also in real-time. We demonstrate our results using both clear and cloudy skies, showing how to add, remove, and relight clouds, all the while allowing for advanced effects such as scattering, shadows, light shafts, and lens flares

Turkish Primary Care Patients’ Overviews and Attitudes About Traditional and Complementary Medicine: A Cross-Sectional Study

Aim:Primary care physicians need to be aware of the types of traditional and complementary medicine (TCM) used by patients to be able to guide patients away from harmful approaches and to aim them toward useful or at least seeming benign approaches. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of the usage of TCM methods in Turkey and the level of knowledge and attitudes of applicants about these methods. Methods:The universe of this cross-sectional study consisted of individuals aged 18 and over who applied to the Family Health Centers and agreed to participate in the study in 12 provinces in different regions of Turkey between July and December 2016. The questionnaires were applied to the volunteer participants by the researchers using face-to-face interview techniques. The questionnaire had 25 questions.Results:80.6% of the participants benefited from TCM, and 86.4% stated they believed in the effectiveness of TCM. Women, university graduates of college who had private insurance used TCM (respectively; p=0.031; p=0.004; p=0.000), and women (83.3%) found TCM more useful than men (p=0.005). The most frequent reason for using TCM was “heard that it was useful”.Conclusion:The results of our study indicated that a large portion of Turkish primary care patients use TCM and recommend it to their relatives. Therefore, health policies and academic knowledge should be developed in this sense

Stock Market Technical Indicator Optimization by Genetic Algorithms

Technical indicators are widely used in stock market forecasting, mostly to trigger the buy/sell rules in the technical analysis. Through some statistical analysis some key values for several indicator parameters are obtained. These values are generally adjusted to provide simple, round numbers, so they become part of easy-to-remember rules, such as 70-30 RSI rule, Crossover 50MA, etc. However, since these selections of indicator values are used as rule-of-thumb buy-sell triggers, it is not clear how changing market conditions affect them. For example, one indicator might provide good results for a particular stock in an uptrend market, but might fail miserably during downtrend. In this study, the performances of several different Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) are analyzed using different technical indicators between the years 1993-2008. The indicator parameters are optimized against portfolio performance using genetic algorithms. Different analyses are implemented in different market conditions (uptrend or downtrend), using a basket of ETFs and different technical indicators. The trained indicators were tested between the years 2008-2010. The results indicate that even though the test performance is not as high as the training performance, the results are generally acceptable. Also, surprisingly, for several ETFs, the widely-used indicators, a lot of times, perform poorly indicating even though they are well-known and widely- implemented strategies; they should not be used blindly for any ETF or stock

Anomalous origin of the left coronary artery arising from pulmonary artery ALCAPA syndrome is a rare congenital heart disease seen in children. If untreated, it may lead to congestive heart failure, dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), ischemic and arrhythmic complications may lead to patient’s death. ALCAPA is diagnosed with echocardiography; in the patients of suspected diagnosis, computerized tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and cardiac catheterization are used for further testing. Surgically correctable ALCAPA syndrome must be considered as etiology of DCM in children. In this report, we presented the case of an infant that was referred to our center with the diagnosis of DCM, who was echocardiographically diagnosed with ALCAPA syndrome and successfully treated with surgery, as well as a review of recent literature.Sol koroner arterin pulmoner arterden çıkış anomalisi olarak tanımlanan ALCAPA sendromu, çocuklarda nadir görülen bir konjenital kalp hastalığıdır. Tedavi edilmediği zaman konjestif kalp yetmezliği, dilate kardiyomiyopati (DKM), iskemik ve aritmik komplikasyonlarla hasta kaybedilebilir. Tanı ekokardiyografi bulgularıyla koyulur, tanıdan şüphelenilen olgularda bilgisayarlı tomografi, manyetik rezonans görüntüleme ve kalp kateterizasyonu gibi ileri tetkiklerden faydalanılabilir. Çocukluk çağında DKM tanısı alan hastalarda etiyolojide, cerrahi olarak düzeltme şansı olan ALCAPA sendromu mutlaka düşünülmelidir. Bu yazıda, merkezimize DKM tanısıyla sevk edilen, ekokardiyografi ile ALCAPA sendromu tanısı konulup, başarılı cerrahi tamir yapılan hasta olgu sunumu yapıldı ve son literatür gözden geçirildi
