    Get PDF
Technical improvements and scaling have resulted in a significant reduction in solar photovoltaic (PV) module costs, which have resulted in PV industry growth both globally as well as in the United States. In many regions there have been favorable policies for solar energy due to the positive public response and support for growth of solar energy. As the demand for PV installations continues to increase, the costs continue to decline, feeding a virtuous cycle. This thesis is composed of a three part study directed towards technical as well as economical analysis of new technologies for residential solar photovoltaic systems for increasing in the PV penetration level as well as reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the United States. First, a technical and economical analysis is performed of a complete off-grid hybrid system comprising a solar PV unit, battery storage unit and cogen unit for residential sector in United States. A new method of quantifying the economic viability of off-grid PV+battery+CHP systems by calculating the LCOE of the technology is compared to centralized grid electricity. A case study for residential electricity and thermal demand in an extreme worst case environment (Houghton, Michigan) is provided to demonstrate the methodology. Moreover, a sensitivity analysis was carried out for various input assumptions to provide decision makers with clear guides to the viability of such a hybrid system and to provide support through a preliminary analysis that indicated a potential increase in grid defection in the U.S. in the near future. Second, a technical evaluation is made as well as safety analysis is made for a fully inclusive, commercial, off-the-shelf PV system (normally consisting of a PV module and microinverter), which a prosumer can install by plugging it into an electric outlet and avoiding the need for significant permitting, inspection and interconnection processes. Such systems are referred to as ‘plug and play solar’ systems. The relevant codes and standards from the National Electric Code, local jurisdictions and utilities was reviewed for PV with a specific focus on plug-and-play solar. A streamlined application process is provided with only technical requirements to ease utility implementation. The results indicated that supporting the installation of plug-and-play solar PV with UL (Underwriters Laboratory) certified microinverters will improve PV system performance, will lead to faster uptake and higher PV penetration levels, will also improve prosumer economics, and more environmentally responsible electric power generation. Finally, a U.S. market analysis is performed for plug and play solar assuming the U.S. regulations modernize and permit the installation of plug and play solar for the residential sector. This study provides an estimate of this new U.S. market for plug and play PV systems if such regulations are updated by investigating personal financial decision making for Americans. The potential savings for the prosumer are mapped for the U.S. over a range of scenarios. This study shows that this system would generate approximately 108,417 thousand MWh per year and this distributed solar energy, which would provide prosumers approximately $13 billion/year in electricity cost savings

Engineering Dynamical Sweet Spots to Protect Qubits from 1/ff Noise

Protecting superconducting qubits from low-frequency noise is essential for advancing superconducting quantum computation. Based on the application of a periodic drive field, we develop a protocol for engineering dynamical sweet spots which reduce the susceptibility of a qubit to low-frequency noise. Using the framework of Floquet theory, we prove rigorously that there are manifolds of dynamical sweet spots marked by extrema in the quasi-energy differences of the driven qubit. In particular, for the example of fluxonium biased slightly away from half a flux quantum, we predict an enhancement of pure-dephasing by three orders of magnitude. Employing the Floquet eigenstates as the computational basis, we show that high-fidelity single- and two-qubit gates can be implemented while maintaining dynamical sweet-spot operation. We further confirm that qubit readout can be performed by adiabatically mapping the Floquet states back to the static qubit states, and subsequently applying standard measurement techniques. Our work provides an intuitive tool to encode quantum information in robust, time-dependent states, and may be extended to alternative architectures for quantum information processing

The users has to connect the company database remotely and make requested changes. This project allows the users to connect with the database without having any client softwares to be installed. The DBA and the other employees working on MS SQL Server can access it if and if it is installed in the machine, if the MS SQL server is not installed it is impossible to get connected and work with the server. If the DBA is not in the organization and it is very immediately require restoring or taking the back-up of the database or any other tsk like that, the DBA can get connected to the server only through a machine in which MS SQL server is installed. The only requirement is web browser. The current study presents a tool for remote database administration that is executed through web application. The web application provides database administrators (DBAs) to perform their task by automatically identifying databases. The proposed tool provides database administrationservices anywhere and anytime. Furthermore, the proposed tool enables DBAs to Manage databaseresiding in mobile hosts or famed hosts. The MS SQL Server has to be installed in the server machines, through which the workers will access the respective databases to write there codes. The DBA too can access the MS SQL Server only if it installed in the machine. If MS SQL Server is not installed in the machine neither the DBA can access the server nor can the workers access it. Therefore in the present study we are developing a web application which helps us to perform the entire DBA tasks can creating user, setting the access permissions, creating databases, taking back-up of the database, restoring the database etc

Objective: The objective of the present investigation was to prepare gastro-resistant microspheres of esomeprazole magnesium trihydrate (EMT) to prevent its degradation in the acidic environment of the stomach and enhance its bioavailability via intestinal absorption. Methods: EMT loaded gastro-resistant microspheres were prepared using hypromellose acetate succinate (HPMCAS) as the gastro-resistant polymer by ‘non-aqueous solvent evaporation' technique. A 3-factor 3 level factorial design was used to optimise EMT: HPMCAS ratio, the concentration of Span 80 and stirring speed with respect to percent entrapment efficiency and particle size. Further characterization was carried out using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), In vitro release study and In vivo anti-ulcer activity. Results: Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) study indicated compatibility between drug and polymer. DSC study revealed that the drug was molecularly dispersed in the polymer. The optimised batch showed 49.63±1.23% drug entrapment and 170.12±3.36 μm particle size. SEM study showed that microspheres were spherical in shape. In vitro drug release study showed only 4.28±1.23% drug release in simulated gastric media in 2 hr and 93.46±1.20% release in simulated intestinal media after 1 hr from the optimised batch. Conclusion: Results of in vitro release studies indicated the gastro-resistant nature of the developed microspheres. In vivo anti-ulcer activity demonstrated that EMT loaded microspheres were able to significantly reduce ethanol-induced ulcer formation in rats' stomach as compared to the aqueous solution of EMT. So it can be concluded that the developed gastro-resistant microspheres of EMT prevented drug release in the stomach which would lead to a significant improvement in its bioavailability through enhanced intestinal absorptio

This paper describes how the web content visualization can be greatly improved using the modeling technique. Web content visualization is the outcome of effort made to avail an improved 3D visualization unlike the 2D web content visualization at present. Web page navigation in this case will be depicted by a 2D graph and the web content will be visualized in the form of 3D graph. Also the RSS feeds will be visualized in the form of 3D graph. In normal browser we type name of the URL in the address bar and that URL is downloaded. But the 3D browser takes any URL as an input and generates a 3D graph of the whole website. When we type the URL, a root node of this URL is created. And then this URL goes to the Parser. The parser, parse this web page and gives output in the form of the set of the hyperlinks. Corresponding to each link we create a node and it is attached to the root node. In this way the whole 3D graph of the website is generated. Different color schemes are used for the nodes of different links e.g. text links, image links, video links etc. Advanced search facility is also provided. Moreover as the graph is 3D in nature, the user can rotate the graph as per his requirement
