A Method of Collecting Catocala Minuta (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) and Related Species
Excerpt: During the last twelve years I have \u27sugared\u27 extensively in areas where large honey locusts (Gleditsia triacanthos L.) are abundant. Although the various forms of Catocala innubens Guenee and Stvenoloma lunilinea (Grote) have appeared in my bait traps, Catocah rninuta Edwards has been absent. [C. minuta is taken on Gleditsia in southern Michigan by using a mixture of molasses, brown sugar, beer and,rum-- Ed.] There is, however, amethodof collecting the pupae of C. minuta that I have employed with excellent results
How to Defeat W\"{u}thrich’s Abysmal Embarrassment Argument against Space-Time Structuralism
In his 2009 PSA Recent Ph.D. Award winning contribution to the bi-annual PSA Conference at Pittsburgh in 2008, C. Wu ̈thrich mounted an argument against struc- turalism about space-time in the context of the General Theory of Relativity (GTR), to the effect that structuralists cannot discern space-time points. An “abysmal embarrass- ment” for the structuralist, Wu ̈thrich judged. Wu ̈thrich’s characterisation of space-time structuralism is however incorrect. We demonstrate how, on the basis of a correct char- acterisation of space-time structuralism, it is possible to discern space-time points in the GTR-structures under consideration. Thus Wu ̈thrich’s argument crumbles
Employment Protection Legislation (EPL) of Georgia: A Review Based on ILO Standards, OECD Indicators and Comparative Labour Law
The Labour Code of Georgia has provoked, since its adoption in 2006, controversial discussions in the country and in the international community. On the one hand, this reform has been contested for the lack of tripartite social dialogue, and for the extent of deregulation which reduced the labour law to 56 articles in total. Critical comments expressed by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the European Union (EU) were not taken into consideration. On the other hand, the Georgian government, with support from the World Bank, has presented this reform as a model for other countries in transition to the market economy.
The objective of this note is to review the Labour Code of Georgia with specific focus on employment protection legislation (EPL) from international and comparative perspectives. The main references used are ILO standards, EPL indicators of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the labour law of selected jurisdictions.
The assessment of the labour law of Georgia in this note does not pretend to be comprehensive. For instance, the regulation of freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining is not examined, as since 2006, the ILO Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations (CEACR) has provided extensive comments on the Labour Code of Georgia on these issues.
The legal review of the Labour Code of Georgia in this note is complemented with some economic data, such as rates of unemployment and self-employment, wages, the growth of gross domestic product (GDP) and foreign direct investments in the country. The conjunction of legal and economic indicators is used to attempt an assessment of the impact of the reform of 2006 on the labour market of Georgia
A=U for Locally Acyclic Cluster Algebras
This note presents a self-contained proof that acyclic and locally acyclic
cluster algebras coincide with their upper cluster algebras
Hadron Physics at BABAR
The BaBar experiment at SLAC is designed to measure CP violation in the B
meson system, however the very high statistics combined with the different
electron and positron beam energies, the detector design and the open trigger
allow a wide variety of spectroscopic measurements. We are beginning to tap
this potential via several production mechanisms. Here we present recent
results from initial state radiation, hadronic jets, few body B and D hadron
decays, and interactions in the detector material. We also summarize
measurements relevant to Ds meson spectroscopy, pentaquarks and charmonium
spectroscopy from multiple production mechanisms.Comment: 10 pages, 7 eps figures, contributed to the Proceedings of HADRON0
Recent Tests of QCD at SLD
We present selected results on strong interaction physics from the SLD
experiment at the SLAC Linear Collider. We report on several new studies of 3-
and 4-jet hadronic Z decays, in which jets are identified as quark, antiquark
or gluon. The 3-jet Z^0->b\bar{b}g rate is sensitive to the b-quark mass;
prospects for measuring m_b are discussed. The gluon energy spectrum is
measured over the full kinematic range, providing an improved test of QCD and
limits on anomalous bbg couplings. The parity violation in Z^0->b\bar{b}g
decays is consistent with electroweak theory plus QCD. New tests of T- and
CP-conservation at the bbg vertex are performed. A new measurement of the rate
of gluon splitting into b\bar{b} pairs yields
g_{b\bar{b}}=0.0031+-0.0007(stat.)+-0.0006(syst.) (Preliminary). We also
present a number of new results on jet fragmentation into identified hadrons.
The B hadron energy spectrum is measured over the full kinematic range using a
new, inclusive technique, allowing stringent tests of predictions for its shape
and a precise measurement of =0.714+-0.005(stat.)+-0.007(syst.)
(Preliminary). A detailed study of correlations in rapidity y between pairs of
identified pions, kaons and protons confirms that strangeness and baryon number
are conserved locally, and shows local charge conservation between meson-baryon
and strange-nonstrange pairs. Flavor-dependent long-range correlations are
observed for all combinations of these hadron species, yielding new information
on leading particle production. The first study of correlations using
rapidities signed such that y>0 corresponds to the quark direction provides
additional new insights into fragmentation, including the first direct
observation of baryon number ordering along the q\bar{q} axis.Comment: 20 pages, 12 figs.; talk given at the QCD99 meeting, Montpellier,
