Cooperative Communications: A New Trend in the Wireless World

Abstract—This Wireless channel while offering independence of movement also introduces un-reliability in the messages received at the destination. Various strategies have been introduced so far to mitigate the effects of the channel on the message received. In this paper, we give an introductory overview of cooperative communications, a new trend in this field of wireless Communications where the transmitting users help each other to overcome the Effects of wireless channel on the message received at the destination. We compare the new idea of cooperative communications with traditional direct or noncooperative communications. In particular, we discuss the achievable rates and simulate the system to get the probability of outage performance of cooperative communications and compare it with direct or noncooperative communications

Effect of variable conduction angle on the losses of switched reluctance machine

    Get PDF
Switched Reluctance Machine (SRM) is the advanced version of the stepper motor and since last decade, it is of high interest among researchers and industrial applications. Modelling an SRM relies on accurate data and proper selection of parameters. The next step is the performance analysis of the machine for which losses determination is indispensable. Previous studies have shown losses calculation only at a particular instant of switching of the machine (i.e., conduction angle). Therefore, the impact of losses in a motoring region cannot be justified. This paper investigates the impact of varying conduction angle on the performance of machines for a set of switch-on angle. Losses are calculated and predicted through simulating motor operating parameters carried out in MATLAB environment and accuracy of results are compared with experimental results

Spectrum of electroencephalogram finding in Children with newly diagnosed epilepsy –an Experience at a tertiary care hospital.

Epilepsy is the most common neurological disorders that affect all age groups. It is characterized by at least two unprovoked seizures more than 24 hours apart. The most common investigation used for both diagnosis and management is an Electroencephalogram (EEG), which is relatively cheap and easy to perform. However, EEG requires technical expertise and is prone to misinterpretation. Objective: To determine the frequency of abnormal EEG findings in children with newly diagnosed epilepsy at tertiary care hospital

Patient communication in radiology: current status of breaking bad news among radiologists and radiology trainees in Pakistan

Breaking bad news can be an intimidating task for any physician. The aim of this study was to record the practices of breaking bad news to the patients by Pakistani radiologists and trainees. The radiologists and trainees attending the 26th National Radiological Conference in October 2010 in Karachi, Pakistan, were surveyed. The response rate was 76%. The respondents included residents (51%), private practicing radiologists (28%), academic radiologists (13%), and other trainees (8%). Most of the academic radiologists communicated with their patients. The daily frequency of breaking bad news by residents was noted, which was highest in the public teaching hospitals (71%). For severe abnormalities such as malignancy, 50% residents, 55% of the academic radiologists and 74% of the private practicing radiologists were very uncomfortable in disclosure of results. Differences in frequency of communication with patients were noticed with both different training levels, and different settings of practice in a developing country
