    Integrating Technology and Heritage Design for Climate Resilient Courtyard House in Arid Region

    This research has investigated the sustainability and climate resilience of courtyard houses of adobe architecture in the UAE. It analyzed design effectiveness in terms of power consumption, CO2 emissions, thermal comfort, and daylight use, employing simulations to assess building structures and construction systems. Adopting a three-phase mixed-methods approach, the study began with a literature review on courtyard house design, construction, and environmental performance, emphasizing sustainable design and passive ventilation. The second phase involved a case study of a UAE courtyard house (Al Midfa), including site visits, interviews, and energy consumption and CO2 emission data collection. The final phase used building energy simulation software to model energy performance and evaluate passive ventilation's role in reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions, with simulation results validated against real-world data. Advanced Sefaira simulations with the Energy Plus Engine identified one out of seven modified models (M5) as exceptionally thermally efficient, influencing the architectural design of the Al Midfa house. To transform the Al Midfa house into a sustainable climate-resistant structure, the research suggested retrofitting with new glazing and insulation on the inside of external walls and on the roof surface at a combined U-value of 0.4 W/m2to enhance energy efficiency without altering the exterior. A notable innovation was the use of injected cellulose insulation in wall systems, combining efficient insulation with architectural aesthetics, signifying a shift towards energy-efficient interior modifications.     Indonesia merupakan negara yang memiliki keanekaragaman jenis kuliner yang dapat dikembangkan menjadi sebuah unit bisnis. UKM Multi Kue merupakan salah satu unit USAha yang memproduksi kue bagea yang menjadi kue khas Kota Palopo. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengidentifikasi faktor yang paling berpengaruh terhadap volume penjualan pada UKM Multi Kue berdasarkan analisis dari marketing mix (atribut produk, harga, saluran distribusi, promosi, orang, proses, lingkungan fisik) untuk menentukan alternatif strategi pemasaran kue bagea berdasarkan analisis SWOT. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada persamaan regresi linier berganda, didapatkan variabel produk merupakan variabel yang paling berpengaruh terhadap volume penjualan pada UKM Multi Kue. Hasil analisis diagram SWOT pada Matriks IFE, diperoleh skor faktor kekuatan adalah 3,28 dan skor faktor kelemahan adalah 0,10 dengan selisih sebesar 3,18. Sementara itu, berdasarkan Matriks EFE, skor faktor peluang adalah 2,38 dan skor faktor ancaman adalah 0,74 dengan selisih sebesar 1,64. Selisih skor pada matriks IFE dan EFE menunjukkan bahwa UKM Multi Kue berada pada Kuadran I yang berarti bahwa strategi yang digunakan adalah strategi Strengths Opportunities (SO) atau strategi Growth yang menunjukkan bahwa UKM Multi Kue tergolong dalam USAha yang berkembang dan memiliki posisi yang kuat dan berpeluang

    Terahertz antenna array based on a hybrid perovskite structure

    This paper presents a novel terahertz (THz) antenna array design comprising a layered structure of a perovskite material which enhances the radiation characteristics of an antenna overlaid on a conventional metallic antenna element. The simulated antenna consists of a THz gold patch antenna coated with a hybrid perovskite material, methyl-ammonium lead iodide CH3NH3PbI3 which enables the manipulation of the THz electromagnetic waves. In addition to this, we also present a comparison of the antenna properties of the proposed hybrid perovskite material with antennas made of gold and perovskite only. The proposed antenna operates in the frequency band 0.9 -1.2 THz. The simulated impedance bandwidth of the proposed array antenna ranges from 0.9 THz to 1.2 THz with a reflection coefficient (S11) less than -10 dB. The antenna array has a radiation patterns stability on the whole frequency band. The peak gain obtained is 11.4 dBi with perovskite arrays. The hybrid and perovskite antenna array demonstrate high radiation efficiency. The designs presented here will help in realising future wireless communication systems that require miniaturisation, fast reconfigurability and wearability

    Kaki tiruan atas lutut atau above knee prosthesis merupakan teknologi di bidang kesehatan sebagai alat pengganti kaki untuk pasien dengan amputasi kaki atas lutut yang penyebab utamanya adalah karenadiabetes dan trauma atau luka berat akibat kecelakaan. Produk kaki tiruan yang ada masih didominasi oleh produk impor, sehingga memiliki harga yang mahal dan sulit terjangkau bagi pasien amputasi kalangan menengah ke bawah. Industri pembuatan kaki tiruan di Indonesia masih belum mampu memproduksi kaki tiruan bersendi atas lutut yang baik. Produk kaki tiruan buatan Indonesia yang sering kita lihat kebanyakan berbahan plat logam berbalut resin, produk konvensional inimemiliki kekurangan dalam fleksibilitas, lifetime, dan ergonomis. Pada penelitian sebelumnya telah dilakukan perancangan tiga model prosthesis untuk amputasi atas lutut. Tujuandari penelitian ini adalah menganalisa pembebanan statis salah satu prostesahasil rancangan dengan FEM. Prostesakemudian diujikan pada pasien amputasi atas lutut sebagai analisa pola pergerakan sendi siklus berjalan (gait cycle). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan prostesa dapat dipakai untuk berjalan dengan baik

    Capacitive transducer circuits for liquid level measurement

    This work is making use of the capacitive element that is made of two electrodes - a column of liquid the level of which is to be measured, and a metallic tube that is pulled and fitted over a PVC tube of accordingly smaller dimensions. Both of the electrodes are provided with contact terminals for easy connection within a bridge circuit, which is powered by a sinusoidal source of given amplitude and known frequency. Precautionary measures are taken for improved linearity and minimal interference of the power supply on experimental data obtained as a result of measurement.     Antiviral, cyototoxic and antimicrobial activities of anthraquinones isolated from the roots of Morinda elliptica

    2-Formyl-1-hydroxyanthraquinone, along with ten other known anthraquinones (1-hydroxy-2-methylanthraquinone, nordamnacanthal, damnacanthal, lucidin-?-methyl ether, rubiadin, rubiadin-1-methyl ether, soranjidiol, morindone, morindone-5-methyl ether and alizarin-1-methyl ether), isolated from the roots of Morinda elliptica , were assayed for anti-HIV, cytotoxic and antimicrobial activites. Only damnacanthal showed moderate activity against HIV. It was cytotoxic towards the MCF-7 (breast carcinoma) and CEM-SS (T-lymphoblastic leukaemia) cell line. Nordamnacanthal was very cytotoxic against the CEM-SS cell lines. Other anthraquinones that showed strong cytotoxicity towards the cell lines tested were lucidin-?-methyl ether (CEM-SS and MCF-7) and rubiadin (CEM-SS). Three anthraquinones viz., nordamnacanthal, damnacanthal and morindone, were found to have strong antimicrobial activity
