Suppression of backward scattering of Dirac fermions in iron pnictides Ba(FeRuAs)
We report electronic transport of Dirac cones when Fe is replaced by Ru,
which has an isoelectronic electron configuration to Fe, using single crystals
of Ba(FeRuAs). The electronic transport of parabolic bands is
shown to be suppressed by scattering due to the crystal lattice distortion and
the impurity effect of Ru, while that of the Dirac cone is not significantly
reduced due to the intrinsic character of Dirac cones. It is clearly shown from
magnetoresistance and Hall coefficient measurements that the inverse of average
mobility, proportional to cyclotron effective mass, develops as the square root
of the carrier number (n) of the Dirac cones. This is the unique character of
the Dirac cone linear dispersion relationship. Scattering of Ru on the Dirac
cones is discussed in terms of the estimated mean free path using experimental
parameters.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, To be published in Phys. Rev.
The quantization of the chiral Schwinger model based on the BFT-BFV formalism II
We apply an improved version of Batalin-Fradkin-Tyutin (BFT) Hamiltonian
method to the a=1 chiral Schwinger Model, which is much more nontrivial than
the a>1.\delta\xi$ in the measure. As a result, we explicitly
obtain the fully gauge invariant partition function, which includes a new type
of Wess-Zumino (WZ) term irrelevant to the gauge symmetry as well as usual WZ
action.Comment: 17 pages, To be published in J. Phys.
Fermion Masses and Mixing and CP-Violation in SO(10) Models with Family Symmetries
Several ideas for solving the problem of fermion mass hierarchy and mixing
and specific supersymmetric models that realize it are reviewed. In particular,
we discuss many models based on SO(10) in four dimensions combined with a
family symmetry to accommodate fermion mass hierarchy and mixing, including the
case of neutrinos. These models are compared and various tests that can be used
to distinguish these models are suggested. We also include a discussion of a
few SO(10) models in higher space-time dimensions.Comment: 66 pages; 5 figures; Submitted to International Journal of Modern

Variation of the Fine-Structure Constant from the de Sitter Invariant Special Relativity
There are obvious discrepancies among various experimental constraints on the
variation of the fine-structure constant, . We attempt to discuss the
issue in the framework of de Sitter invariant Special Relativity () and to present a possible solution to the disagreement. In
addition, on the basis of the observational data and the discussions presented
in this Letter, we derive a rough theoretical estimate of the radius of the
Universe.Comment: 8 pages, no figure
Specific-heat study of superconducting and normal states in FeSe1-xTex (0.6<=x<=1) single crystals: Strong-coupling superconductivity, strong electron-correlation, and inhomogeneity
The electronic specific heat of as-grown and annealed single-crystals of
FeSe1-xTex (0.6<=x<=1) has been investigated. It has been found that annealed
single-crystals with x=0.6-0.9 exhibit bulk superconductivity with a clear
specific-heat jump at the superconducting (SC) transition temperature, Tc. Both
2Delta_0/kBTc [Delta_0: the SC gap at 0 K estimated using the single-band BCS
s-wave model] and Delta C/(gamma_n-gamma_0)Tc [Delta C$: the specific-heat jump
at Tc, gamma_n: the electronic specific-heat coefficient in the normal state,
gamma_0: the residual electronic specific-heat coefficient at 0 K in the SC
state] are largest in the well-annealed single-crystal with x=0.7, i.e., 4.29
and 2.76, respectively, indicating that the superconductivity is of the strong
coupling. The thermodynamic critical field has also been estimated. gamma_n has
been found to be one order of magnitude larger than those estimated from the
band calculations and increases with increasing x at x=0.6-0.9, which is
surmised to be due to the increase in the electronic effective mass, namely,
the enhancement of the electron correlation. It has been found that there
remains a finite value of gamma_0 in the SC state even in the well-annealed
single-crystals with x=0.8-0.9, suggesting an inhomogeneous electronic state in
real space and/or momentum space.Comment: 22 pages, 1 table, 6 figures, Version 2 has been accepted for

Very Long Baseline Neutrino Oscillation Experiment for Precise Measurements of Mixing Parameters and CP Violating Effects
We analyze the prospects of a feasible, Brookhaven National Laboratory based,
very long baseline (BVLB) neutrino oscillation experiment consisting of a
conventional horn produced low energy wide band beam and a detector of 500 kT
fiducial mass with modest requirements on event recognition and resolution.
Such an experiment is intended primarily to determine CP violating effects in
the neutrino sector for 3-generation mixing. We analyze the sensitivity of such
an experiment. We conclude that this experiment will allow determination of the
CP phase and the currently unknown mixing parameter
, if , a value times
lower than the present experimental upper limit. In addition to
and , the experiment has great potential for precise measurements
of most other parameters in the neutrino mixing matrix including , , ,
and the mass ordering of neutrinos through the observation of the matter effect
in the appearance channel.Comment: 12 pages, 10 figure
Universal cloning of continuous quantum variables
The cloning of quantum variables with continuous spectra is analyzed. A
universal - or Gaussian - quantum cloning machine is exhibited that copies
equally well the states of two conjugate variables such as position and
momentum. It also duplicates all coherent states with a fidelity of 2/3. More
generally, the copies are shown to obey a no-cloning Heisenberg-like
uncertainty relation.Comment: 4 pages, RevTex. Minor revisions, added explicit cloning

Unusual T_c variation with hole concentration in Bi_2Sr_{2-x}La_xCuO_{6+\delta}
We have investigated the variation with the hole concentration in
the La-doped Bi 2201 system, BiSrLaCuO. It is
found that the Bi 2201 system does not follow the systematics in and
observed in other high- cuprate superconductors (HTSC's). The vs
characteristics are quite similar to what observed in Zn-doped HTSC's. An
exceptionally large residual resistivity component in the inplane resistivity
indicates that strong potential scatterers of charge carriers reside in CuO
planes and are responsible for the unusual variation with , as in the
Zn-doped systems. However, contrary to the Zn-doped HTSC's, the strong scatter
in the Bi 2201 system is possibly a vacancy in the Cu site.Comment: RevTeX, 3 figures, to be published in the Physical Review
A Unified Description of Cuprate and Iron Arsenide Superconductors
We propose a unified description of cuprate and iron-based superconductivity.
Consistency with magnetic structure inferred from neutron scattering implies
significant constraints on the symmetry of the pairing gap for the iron-based
superconductors. We find that this unification requires the orbital pairing
formfactors for the iron arsenides to differ fundamentally from those for
cuprates at the microscopic level.Comment: 12 pages, 10 figures, 2 table
