    Tensorial analisis of the superposed deformation in the easthern border of the Madrid basin

    An analysis of Neogene brittle deformation using fault populatíon analysis methods has been carried out between the SW border of the Iberian Range and Altomira Range. Two main paleostress fields have been established: 1) N70E - N120E compression (Altomira paleostress field) ofLate Oligocene - Early Miocene age that induced the formation of the SW border of Iberian Range and Altomira - Pareja thrust belts with reverse and strike-slip faults. 2) N140-N160E compression (Guadarrama paleostress field) of Middle Aragonian - early Pleistocene age that reactivated previous faults with strikeslip movement along the Iberian Range. A superposition of two regional stress fields (Iberian and Guadarrama) is proposed to explain E-W compression that formed Altomira Range. Stress tensorial additions have been realized to check this hypothesis

    Effects of photon reabsorption phenomena in confocal micro-photoluminescence measurements in crystalline silicon

    Confocal micro-photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy has become a powerful characterization technique for studying novel photovoltaic (PV) materials and structures at the micrometer level. In this work, we present a comprehensive study about the effects and implications of photon reabsorption phenomena on confocal micro-PL measurements in crystalline silicon (c-Si), the workhorse material of the PV industry. First, supported by theoretical calculations, we show that the level of reabsorption is intrinsically linked to the selected experimental parameters, i.e., focusing lens, pinhole aperture, and excitation wavelength, as they define the spatial extension of the confocal detection volume, and therefore, the effective photon traveling distance before collection. Second, we also show that certain sample properties such as the reflectance and/or the surface recombination velocity can also have a relevant impact on reabsorption. Due to the direct relationship between the reabsorption level and the spectral line shape of the resulting PL emission signal, reabsorption phenomena play a paramount role in certain types of micro-PL measurements. This is demonstrated by means of two practical and current examples studied using confocal PL, namely, the estimation of doping densities in c-Si and the study of back-surface and/or back-contacted Si devices such as interdigitated back contact solar cells, where reabsorption processes should be taken into account for the proper interpretation and quantification of the obtained PL data.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

    Valence change of praseodymium in Pr0.5Ca0.5CoO3 investigated by x-ray absorption spectroscopy

    X-ray absorption spectroscopy measurements in Pr0.5Ca0.5CoO3 were performed at the Pr M4,5, Pr L3, and Ca L2,3 absorption edges as a function of temperature below 300 K. Ca spectra show no changes down to 10 K while a noticeable thermally dependent evolution takes place at the Pr edges across the metal-insulator transition. Spectral changes are analyzed by different methods, including multiple scattering simulations, which provide quantitative details on an electron loss at Pr 4f orbitals. We conclude that in the insulating phase a fraction [15(+5)%] of Pr3+ undergoes a further oxidation to adopt a hybridized configuration composed of an admixture of atomic-like 4f1 states (Pr4+) and f- symmetry states on the O 2p valence band (Pr3+L states) indicative of a strong 4f- 2p interaction.Comment: 19 pages (.doc), 4 figures, Phys.     Present-Day Crustal Stress Field from Gcmt Focal Mechanisms Based on the Slip Model.

    The Slip Model is applied to the Global Centroid Moment Tensor database to determine the present day state of stress. Thus, from each focal mechanism the horizontal shortening direction (Dey) and the shape factor of the strain ellipsoid (k`), defined as the relationship between the maximum horizontal shortening and the vertical axis, are calculated. Additionally, this method proposed the neoformed plane from the calculated nodal planes. In this study, to determine the stress configuration at crustal scale, only depths < 40 km are included. Focal mechanisms are grouped in reverse, strike-slip and normal, to analyse its distribution and to determine the b-parameter from Gutenberg-Richter law. Finally, global shape factor and horizontal shortening direction maps are presented

All other rights are reserved.The combined action of the pyroelectric (PY) and photovoltaic (PV) effects, exhibited by z-cut LiNbO3:Fe substrates, has been investigated for particle trapping and patterning applications. The novel hybrid procedure provides new possibilities and versatility to optoelectronic manipulation on LiNbO3 substrates. It has allowed obtaining periodic and arbitrary 2D patterns whose particle density distribution is correlated with the light intensity profile but can be tuned through ΔT according to the relative strength of the PV and PY effects. A relevant result is that the PY and PV contributions compete for a ΔT range of 1-20 °C, very accessible for experiments. Moreover, the synergy of the PY and PV has provided two additional remarkable applications: i) A method to measure the PV field, key magnitude for photovoltaic optoelectronic tweezers.     Ising exponents in the two-dimensional site-diluted Ising model

    We study the site-diluted Ising model in two dimensions with Monte Carlo simulations. Using finite-size scaling techniques we compute the critical exponents observing deviations from the pure Ising ones.     Interstitial Ti for intermediate band formation in Ti-supersaturated silicon

    We have analyzed by means of Rutherford backscattering spectrometry (RBS) the Ti lattice location and the degree of crystalline lattice recovery in heavily Ti implanted silicon layers subsequently pulsed laser melted (PLM). Theoretical studies have predicted that Ti should occupy interstitial sites in silicon for a metallic-intermediate band (IB) formation. The analysis of Ti lattice location after PLM processes is a crucial point to evaluate the IB formation that can be clarifyied by means of RBS measurements. After PLM, time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry measurements show that the Ti concentration in the layers is well above the theoretical limit for IB formation. RBS measurements have shown a significant improvement of the lattice quality at the highest PLM energy density studied. The RBS channeling spectra reveals clearly that after PLM processes Ti impurities are mostly occupying interstitial lattice sites

    Síndrome de Mazabraud: Presentación de un caso clínico y revisión de la literatura

    El síndrome de Mazabraud se define como la asociación de una tumoración de partes blandas, el mixoma intramuscular, y un tumor óseo, la displasia fibrosa. Se realiza una revisión bibliográfica de los casos publicados en la literatura, desde que en 1957, Mazabraud acuñó esta asociación como síndrome. El caso clínico corresponde a un varón de 43 años de edad con antecedentes de nódulo frío tiroideo, pigmentación cutánea y lesiones óseas en pelvis y tercio proximal fémur derecho, que acudió a la consulta por presentar una tumoración de partes blandas a nivel del muslo derecho de unos meses de evolución. Tras realizar biopsia de la misma se diagnosticó de mixoma intramuscular. El paciente se intervino quirúrgicamente practicándose resección amplia de la lesión. Hasta la fecha el enfermo no ha presentado recidiva de la lesión de partes blandas, y la displasia ósea no ha sufrido transformación maligna.Mazabraud's síndrome is the association of a soft-tissue tumour, intramuscular myxonma and a bone tumour, fibrous dysplasia. We review the literature since Mazabraud, in 1957 described this syndrome. We report a 43 years male who consulted for a soft-time mass in the right thigh. He also had bone lesions in pelvis and right femur that were diagnosted of fibrous dysplasia. We made a biopsy of soft-tissue tumour and it was diagnosed of intramuscular myxom. The patient was operated and the mass was removed. Till now, there is no recurrence of the myxom and there is no malignant degeneration of the fibrous dysplasia
