Energy levels and radiative rates for transitions in Ti VI

We report on calculations of energy levels, radiative rates, oscillator strengths, and line strengths for transitions among the lowest 253 levels of the (1s2^22s2^22p6^6) 3s2^23p5^5, 3s3p6^6, 3s2^23p4^43d, 3s3p5^53d, 3s2^23p33d2^33d^2, 3s2^23p4^44s, 3s2^23p4^44p and 3s2^23p4^44d configurations of Ti VI. The general-purpose relativistic atomic structure package ({\sc grasp}) and flexible atomic code ({\sc fac}) are adopted for the calculations. Radiative rates, oscillator strengths and line strengths are reported for all electric dipole (E1), magnetic dipole (M1), electric quadrupole (E2) and magnetic quadrupole (M2) transitions among the 253 levels, although calculations have been performed for a much larger number of levels. Comparisons are made with existing available results and the accuracy of the data is assessed. Additionally, lifetimes for all 253 levels are listed, although comparisons with other theoretical results are limited to only 88 levels. Our energy levels are estimated to be accurate to better than 1% (within 0.03 Ryd), whereas results for other parameters are probably accurate to better than 20%. A reassessment of the energy level data on the NIST website for Ti VI is suggested.Comment: 12p Text and 9 Tables will appear in Physica Scripta 88 (2013) xxxxx

Effect of C60_{60} giant resonance on the photoabsorption of encaged atoms

The absolute differential oscillator strengths (DOS's) for the photoabsorption of the Ne, Ar, and Xe atoms encapsulated in the C60_{60} have been evaluated using the time-dependent-density-functional-theory, which solves the quantum Liouvillian equation with the Lanczos chain method. The calculations are performed in the energy regions both inside and outside the C60_{60} giant resonance. The photoabsorption spectra of the atoms encaged in the C60_{60} demonstrate strong oscillations inside the energy range of the C60_{60} giant resonance. This type of oscillation cannot be explained by the confinement resonance, but is due to the energy transfer from the C60_{60} valence electrons to the photoelectron through the intershell coupling

TRANSVERSE DISSEMINATION OF EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN ECONOMICS: EFFECTIVENESS OF CURRICULUM CHANGES: none

Since 1994, there have been numerous curricular changes in South Africa's education system, which have had an impact on the topics covered, taught, and examined in the country's further education and training (FET) phase. The aim of this paper is to assess how changing the curriculum has affected how much environmental content is covered in the subject Economics. The documents used by South African Economics teachers were analysed utilizing a qualitative research methodology and an interpretive paradigm. Realist Social Theory by Margaret Archer served as the theoretical basis for the study data analysis and interpretation. The only technique employed to evaluate the effectiveness of policy texts and test questions was document analysis. The findings show that the variable coverage of environmental impact topics in the examinations may have a negative effect on the way teachers address the topics in Economics. The study also finds that the shifts of the curriculum from RNCS to CAPS improved coverage of environmental content in Economics. This resulted in an emergence of structural and cultural morphogenesis in the teaching of environmental content in Economics from teachers. The study also reveals that environmental content in Economics was better covered after the curriculum changed from RNCS to CAPS. This led to the formation of structural and cultural morphogenesis in the teaching of environmental content in Economics

Kwasuka Sukela: re-imagined bodies of a (South African) 1990s born woman

Through an analysis of my artistic work, I examine past and present representations of black women in South African public and private domains. Having been confronted with monuments erected to celebrate British colonialism and Afrikaner nationalism, I focus on the paucity of iconic black women in history and mythology. I perform figures who I construct from existing histories and look to the women in my own family archive to memorialise them. For this reason, performance has been key, in my practice, in re-locating the presence of the black female body. In South African architecture, monuments and public sculpture there is a lack of representation of black women. I refer to sites where statues and monuments have been erected to commemorate certain histories. Having experienced these spaces as particularly masculine and racialised, I perform women whom I consider to be significant. As a young black woman investigating current socio-political issues in South Africa, I draw parallels with the past. I embody these women in sculptural installations and in public spaces as living sculptures standing on a white plinth. In relation to these public performances, the exhibition includes sculptural installations that speak to the interplay of public and private domains. Animism and Ubuntu form part of the spiritual agency that is present in this work. Collectively these works narrate resistance and self-assertion in response to dominant ideologies in the public space
