Structural properties of crumpled cream layers

The cream layer is a complex heterogeneous material of biological origin which forms spontaneously at the air-milk interface. Here, it is studied the crumpling of a single cream layer packing under its own weight at room temperature in three-dimensional space. The structure obtained in these circumstances has low volume fraction and anomalous fractal dimensions. Magnon delocalization in ferromagnetic chains with long-range correlated disorder

We study one-magnon excitations in a random ferromagnetic Heisenberg chain with long-range correlations in the coupling constant distribution. By employing an exact diagonalization procedure, we compute the localization length of all one-magnon states within the band of allowed energies $E$. The random distribution of coupling constants was assumed to have a power spectrum decaying as $S(k)\propto 1/k^{\alpha}$. We found that for $\alpha < 1$, one-magnon excitations remain exponentially localized with the localization length $\xi$ diverging as 1/E. For $\alpha = 1$ a faster divergence of $\xi$ is obtained. For any $\alpha > 1$, a phase of delocalized magnons emerges at the bottom of the band. We characterize the scaling behavior of the localization length on all regimes and relate it with the scaling properties of the long-range correlated exchange coupling distribution.Comment: 7 Pages, 5 figures, to appear in Phys. Mobility Edge in Aperiodic Kronig-Penney Potentials with Correlated Disorder: Perturbative Approach

It is shown that a non-periodic Kronig-Penney model exhibits mobility edges if the positions of the scatterers are correlated at long distances. An analytical expression for the energy-dependent localization length is derived for weak disorder in terms of the real-space correlators defining the structural disorder in these systems. We also present an algorithm to construct a non-periodic but correlated sequence exhibiting desired mobility edges. This result could be used to construct window filters in electronic, acoustic, or photonic non-periodic structures.Comment: RevTex, 4 pages including 2 Postscript figure

Este trabalho é parte das atividades do projeto Tecnologias Inovadoras em mineração de textos para a Espacialização de Notícias Agrícolas (Tiena) - piloto cana-de-açúcar (MOURA, 2012), liderado pelo LabIC/Embrapa. A motivação para a criação desse projeto deve-se ao fato de que o processo de identificação automática de tópicos, espacialização e temporização de notícias agrícolas possa influenciar em modelos de previsão de safras

Fitointoxicação causada por deriva de Glyphosate em soja convencional.

Para simular as conseqüências da deriva de glyphosate na soja convencional. BRS 232, foram conduzidos cinco experimentos, em Londrina, PR. Brasil. Os tratamentos contemplaram doses isoladas do herbicida e em mistura com sulfato de manganês. Estas doses correspondem à volumes que variaram de 0,6% a 38% da dose comumente indicada na soja resistente. Os resultados mostraram desde leve clorose até a morte de plantas na dose mais alta. Houve acúmulo de ácido chiquímico nas plantas tratadas com glifosate, tanto nos foliolos desenvolvidos como em desenvolvimento, sendo que nesse caso. esse acúmulo ocorreu no intervalo entre 1 e 10 dias após aplicação dos tratamentos (DAT). Apos 30 DAT, os níveis de ácido chiquímico retomaram ao normal, não diferindo significativamente daqueles observados nas plantas testemunha. Perdas de rendimento foram observadas a partir de 0,48 I de glyphosate p.c. ha-1 (0.31 g.La.ha-\ sugerindo que. caso ocorra deriva deste produto para lavouras de soja convencional a eliminação não é necessária na maioria dos casos, pois a cultura tem condições de se recuperar

Diffusion in disordered systems under iterative measurement

We consider a sequence of idealized measurements of time-separation $\Delta t$ onto a discrete one-dimensional disordered system. A connection with Markov chains is found. For a rapid sequence of measurements, a diffusive regime occurs and the diffusion coefficient $D$ is analytically calculated. In a general point of view, this result suggests the possibility to break the Anderson localization due to decoherence effects. Quantum Zeno effect emerges because the diffusion coefficient $D$ vanishes at the limit $\Delta t \to 0$.Comment: 8 pages, 0 figures, LATEX. accepted in Phys.Rev.
