PlanetOnto: from news publishing to integrated knowledge management support

Given a scenario in which members of an academic community collaboratively construct and share an archive of news items, several knowledge management challenges arise. The authors' integrated suite of tools, called PlanetOnto, supports a speedy but high quality publishing process, allows ontology-driven document formalization and augments standard browsing and search facilities with deductive knowledge retrieva

Collaborative semantic web browsing with Magpie

    Get PDF
Web browsing is often a collaborative activity. Users involved in a joint information gathering exercise will wish to share knowledge about the web pages visited and the contents found. Magpie is a suite of tools supporting the interpretation of web pages and semantically enriched web browsing. By automatically associating an ontology-based semantic layer to web resources, Magpie allows relevant services to be invoked as well as remotely triggered within a standard web browser. In this paper we describe how Magpie trigger services can provide semantic support to collaborative browsing activities

Viva a mandioca: a verdadeira face do Brasil.

We present CORDER (COmmunity Relation Discovery by named Entity Recognition) an un-supervised machine learning algorithm that exploits named entity recognition and co-occurrence data to associate individuals in an organization with their expertise and associates. We discuss the problems associated with evaluating unsupervised learners and report our initial evaluation experiments

We estimate the expected distribution of displacements between the two dominant dark matter (DM) peaks (DM-DM displacements) and between DM and gaseous baryon peak (DM-gas displacements) in dark matter halos with masses larger than 101310^{13} Msun/h. We use as a benchmark the observation of SL2S J08544-0121, which is the lowest mass system (1.0×10141.0\times 10^{14} Msun/h) observed so far featuring a bi-modal dark matter distribution with a dislocated gas component. We find that (50±10)(50 \pm 10)% of the dark matter halos with circular velocities in the range 300 km/s to 700 km/s (groups) show DM-DM displacements equal or larger than 186±30186 \pm 30 kpc/h as observed in SL2S J08544-0121. For dark matter halos with circular velocities larger than 700 km/s (clusters) this fraction rises to 70 ±\pm 10%. Using the same simulation we estimate the DM-gas displacements and find that 0.1 to 1.0% of the groups should present separations equal or larger than 87±1487\pm 14kpc/h corresponding to our observational benchmark; for clusters this fraction rises to (7 ±\pm 3)%, consistent with previous studies of dark matter to baryon separations. Considering both constraints on the DM-DM and DM-gas displacements we find that the number density of groups similar to SL2S J08544-0121 is 6.0×107\sim 6.0\times 10^{-7} Mpc3^{-3}, three times larger than the estimated value for clusters. These results open up the possibility for a new statistical test of LCDM by looking for DM-gas displacements in low mass clusters and groups.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ Letter

Temperature and wind data are presented from 70 small meteorological sounding rockets launched from eight selected launch sites in the Western Hemisphere. Table 1 gives a complete listing of the launch sites involved and the altitude of temperature and wind observations successfully completed

An Analytical model for the colorimetric characterization of color CRTs

To be a viable instrument for color appearance research, the color Cathode Ray Tube has to be very well calibrated and characterized. The purpose of this research was to develop the techniques and methods used to carry out such characterization, and also to evaluate to what degree of precision and accuracy can such a characterization be performed. A new model for predicting the CRT behavior is presented along with the experimental results that validate it
