The aim of this study was to compare impressions of COVID-19 vaccination and influenza vaccination in Japan by analyzing social media (Twitter®) using a text-mining method. We obtained 10,000 tweets using the keywords “corona vaccine” and “influenza vaccine” on 15 December 2022 and 19 February 2023. We then counted the number of times the words were used and listed frequency of these words by a text-mining method called KH Coder. We also investigated concepts in the data using groups of words that often appeared together or groups of documents that contained the same words using multi-dimensional scaling (MDS). “Death” in relation to corona vaccine and “severe disease” for influenza vaccine were frequently used on 15 December 2022. The number of times the word “death” was used decreased, “after effect” was newly recognized for corona vaccine, and “severe disease” was not used in relation to influenza vaccine. Through this comprehensive analysis of social media data, we observed distinct variations in public perceptions of corona vaccination and influenza vaccination in Japan. These findings provide valuable insights for public health authorities and policymakers to better understand public sentiment and tailor their communication strategies accordingly

The ionizing radiation with high linear energy transfer (LET), such as a heavy ion beam, induces more serious biological effects than low LET ones, such as gamma- and X-rays. This indicates a difference in the DNA damage produced by low and high LET radiations and their biological effects. We have been studying the differences in DNA damage produced by gamma-rays and carbon ion beams. Therefore, we analyze mutations induced by both ionizing radiations to discuss the differences in their biological effects in this study. pUC19 plasmid DNA was irradiated by carbon ion beams in the solution containing 1M dimethyl sulfoxide to mimic a cellular condition. The irradiated DNA was cloned in competent cells of Escherichia coli. The clones harboring some mutations in the region of lacZ alpha were selected, and the sequence alterations were analyzed. A one-deletion mutation is significant in the carbon-irradiated DNA, and the C:G T:A transition is minor. On the other hand, the gamma-irradiated DNA shows mainly G:C T:A transversion. These results suggest that carbon ion beams produce complex DNA damage, and gamma-rays are prone to single oxidative base damage, such as 8-oxoguanine. Carbon ion beams can also introduce oxidative base damage, and the damage species is 5-hydroxycytosine. This was consistent with our previous results of DNA damage caused by heavy ion beams. We confirmed the causal DNA damage by mass spectrometry for these mutations

A first purpose of this study was to compare QOL(Quality of life) of adult atopic dermatitis(AD) patients group with normal people group. A second purpose was to examine the relations of QOL and Social Support in each of AD group of high tendency to psychosomatic disorder(the high group) and AD group of low tendency(the low group). The sample was comprised of three groups. 45 people were diagnosed as AD and were going a hospital or a clinic (Clinical group A), 33 people were college students and contracted a disease in AD( Clinical group B),and 147 people were college students and did not contract a disease in AD(Normal group) As result, first,as for Clinical group A,the Mental side of QOL was deteriorated more significantly than other two group, and the Physical side of QOL was the highest. Generally,It is said the Physical side of QOL changes greatly by age. This study couldn't control the age of Clinical group A,so it was though that an error became big Second," Instrumental support "and "general healthy feeling" had negative correlation in the low group. On the other hand,an equilateral correlation was examined on "emotional support" and the Physical side of QOL in the high group. It was suggested that "Instrumental Support" might become "Negative support" for AD patients that a tendency to psychosomatic disorder was low. And,that,In the high group, the vicious circle of "stress-scratch cycle" was cut off by social support .We need detailed investigation in the future

Dermoscopy of Pigmented Bowen's Disease Mimicking Early Superficial Spreading Melanoma

A 89-year-old Japanese woman presented at our clinic because of a several months’ history of an asymptomatic gradually enlarging pigmented skin lesion on the dorsum of the left foot. Physical examination revealed a single hyperpigmented oval macule of 5 mm with a rough surface. The color of the lesion was dark brown to light brown. Dermoscopic examination demonstrated atypical pigment network with small dotted vessels. Irregular streaks were also partially noted at the periphery. We suspected superficial spreading melanoma and performed an excision. The histologic features were consistent with a diagnosis of pigmented Bowen's disease. We could not completely account for dermoscopic aspects from the pathological findings of hematoxylin and eosin-stained specimens; therefore, specimens were stained with Fontana-Masson stain. It clearly demonstrated the distribution of melanin in the epidermis. We concluded that atypical network was due to an uneven melanin deposition in the variably thickened epidermal rete ridges

Process of parenting a child with RB

Background : Retinoblastoma(RB) occurs at a very young age. Since the disease is diagnosed at an early age, the family is responsible for the care of the childʼs disease acceptance. Objective : This study aims to explore the parenting process of children with RB toward disease acceptance. Methods : Parents of eleven children with RB living in Japan were interviewed, and the data were analyzed using the Modified Grounded Theory Approach of Kinoshita(M-GTA). Results : There were twenty-one concepts representing the process of parenting a child with RB while guiding him or her toward disease acceptance, and nineteen of them were classified into ten categories based on semantic similarities. The two other concepts showed similar interpretability to categories. These categories and concepts were summarized into two core categories : “Helping the child develop a positive mindset to define the disease as a part of him/herself ” and “Paving the way in advance for the child to live comfortably when his or her living space expands”. Conclusions : In a cyclical framework of parenting, consisting of two core categories described in Results, the parents coordinated these two approaches while maintaining balance by “Avoiding saying anything that does not need to be said” and established their process of parenting a child with RB while guiding him or her toward disease acceptance, according to their household situation. The results suggest the necessity of recognizing that in childhood-onset cancers, such as RB, and diseases involving genetic issues, problems tend to occur not only during the treatment period but also at the time of life events and providing support from a comprehensive perspective

A reversible oxygen redox reaction in bulk-type all-solid-state batteries

An all-solid-state lithium battery using inorganic solid electrolytes requires safety assurance and improved energy density, both of which are issues in large-scale applications of lithium-ion batteries. Utilization of high-capacity lithium-excess electrode materials is effective for the further increase in energy density. However, they have never been applied to all-solid-state batteries. Operational difficulty of all-solid-state batteries using them generally lies in the construction of the electrode-electrolyte interface. By the amorphization of Li₂RuO₃ as a lithium-excess model material with Li₂SO₄, here, we have first demonstrated a reversible oxygen redox reaction in all-solid-state batteries. Amorphous nature of the Li₂RuO₃-Li₂SO₄ matrix enables inclusion of active material with high conductivity and ductility for achieving favorable interfaces with charge transfer capabilities, leading to the stable operation of all-solid-state batteries
