Fermi-LAT study of two gamma-ray binaries, HESS J0632+057 and AGL J2241+4454
GeV gamma-ray emission from two gamma-ray binary candidates, HESS J0632+057
and AGL J2241+4454, which were recently reported by H.E.S.S. and AGILE,
respectively, have been searched for using the Fermi-LAT archival dataset.
Spatial and temporal distribution of gamma-ray events are studied, but there
was no evidence for GeV gamma-ray signal from either sources.Comment: 2012 Fermi Symposium proceedings - eConf C12102
Facilitating collaboration between Japanese high schools and universities: a qualitative exploration of the role of education outreach coordinators
IntroductionIn recent years, universities have been expected to participate in Japanese high school education, especially in the “period for inquiry-based cross-disciplinary study.” Despite various university faculties engaging in diverse educational practices, there is insufficient research on human resource development and the creation of mechanisms to ensure continuous development.MethodsThis study conducted semi-structured interviews from July to November 2023, with 15 educators from universities and high schools, among others, to explore the current state of educational collaborations between these institutions and identify potential solutions.ResultsA reflective thematic analysis of the interview identified two key themes: the significance of university involvement in high school education and conflict areas generated from this collaboration. The findings suggest that the success of these initiatives relies on the involvement of coordinators who possess a high level of expertise and competencies.DiscussionThese coordinators, who work in the “third space” in universities, are crucial for realizing the ideal outcomes of educational collaborations between universities and high schools in Japan’s new educational environment
Human herpesvirus 6 envelope components enriched in lipid rafts: evidence for virion-associated lipid rafts
In general, enveloped viruses are highly dependent on their lipid envelope for entry into host cells. Here, we demonstrated that during the course of virus maturation, a significant proportion of human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) envelope proteins were selectively concentrated in the detergent-resistant glycosphingolipid- and cholesterol-rich membranes (rafts) in HHV-6-infected cells. In addition, the ganglioside GM1, which is known to partition preferentially into lipid rafts, was detected in purified virions, along with viral envelope glycoproteins, gH, gL, gB, gQ1, gQ2 and gO indicating that at least one raft component was included in the viral particle during the assembly process
Widely Extended [OIII] 88 um Line Emission around the 30 Doradus Region Revealed with AKARI FIS-FTS
We present the distribution map of the far-infrared [OIII] 88um line emission
around the 30 Doradus (30 Dor) region in the Large Magellanic Cloud obtained
with the Fourier Transform Spectrometer of the Far-Infrared Surveyor onboard
AKARI. The map reveals that the [OIII] emission is widely distributed by more
than 10' around the super star cluster R136, implying that the 30 Dor region is
affluent with interstellar radiation field hard enough to ionize O^{2+}. The
observed [OIII] line intensities are as high as (1-2) x 10^{-6} W m^{-2}
sr^{-1} on the peripheral regions 4'-5' away from the center of 30 Dor, which
requires gas densities of 60-100 cm^{-3}. However the observed size of the
distribution of the [OIII] emission is too large to be explained by massive
stars in the 30 Dor region enshrouded by clouds with the constant gas density
of 10^2 cm^{-3}. Therefore the surrounding structure is likely to be highly
clumpy. We also find a global correlation between the [OIII] and the
far-infrared continuum emission, suggesting that the gas and dust are well
mixed in the highly-ionized region where the dust survives in clumpy dense
clouds shielded from the energetic photons.Comment: 17 pages, 9 figures, accepted for publication in Publications of the

Independence of plasma membrane blebbing from other biochemical and biological characteristics of apoptotic cells
金沢大学医薬保健研究域薬学系Plasma membrane blebs are observed in many types of apoptotic cells, but their physiological roles remain to be clarified. We examined whether there is a causative connection between membrane blebbing and other apoptotic changes in Jurkat cells induced to undergo apoptosis by doxorubicin in the presence or absence of Y-27632, an inhibitor of the Rho kinase ROCK-I. The inclusion of the drug made most membrane blebs disappear, while other changes, such as chromatin condensation, inactivation of mitochondrial enzymes, externalization of the membrane phospholipid phosphatidylserine, and removal of cell surface sialic acid, remained unaffected. Furthermore, these apoptotic cells were phagocytosed by macrophages as efficiently as normally apoptosing cells. These results indicate that blebbing of the plasma membrane occurs independently from other apoptotic changes and is not involved in the recognition and engulfment of apoptotic cells by macrophages
