Reactivation of Paleozoic structures during Cenozoic deformation in the Cordón del Plata and Southern Precordillera ranges (Mendoza, Argentina)
The tectonic style of the eastern morphostructural units of the Central Andes between 32°20´ and 33°20´S is strongly influenced by pre- Andean structures, especially those developed during the late Carboniferous-Early Permian San Rafael orogeny of the Gondwanan orogenic cycle. Moreover, in the study area pre-Carboniferous rocks were deformed in Late Devonian-early Carboniferous times by the Chanic orogeny. In this paper we argue that the Cordón del Plata and the Southern Precordillera ranges, first order features of the eastern ranges of the Andes, have been shaped in large part by the Permian event. Our data suggest that the double verging character of the Andean Precordillera fold- thrust belt is mainly the result of the reactivation of Gondwanan structures which conform a fold-thrust belt with distinct characteristics north and south of 33°S. The northern sector of this belt corresponds to a bivergent system, while the southern sector had a widespread east vergence. The vergence of the Chanic structures is more difficult to determine, but we infer a westward vergence in the Frontal Cordillera and western sector of Precordillera, and an eastern vergence in the eastern sector of the Precordillera. The sharp disappearance of the Precordillera morphostructural unit south of 33°S is inferred here to be related to the distribution of inherited Permian structures.

The observed winter circulation at InSight’s landing site and its impact on understanding the year-round circulation and aeolian activity in Elysium Planitia and Gale Crater
The InSight lander landed at 135.62°E, 4.50°N in Elysium Planitia, less than 550km from the landing site of the Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity rover, at 137.44°E, 4.59°S in Gale Crater. Both missions carried a suite of meteorological instruments, but regrettably MSL’s wind sensor was damaged on landing and failed completely after ~two Mars years [1]. The resultant data gaps and biases made it very difficult to properly characterize the diurnal and seasonal cycles of wind speed and direction in Gale Crater, a region of extreme topography containing numerous aeolian features.
Fortunately, InSight’s wind sensor does not appear to have been damaged on landing, and is returning excellent wind data for the landing season (Ls~300°, northern winter). This valuable dataset has already allowed us to characterize the Elysium Planitia circulation at one time of year, and - in combination with atmospheric models - provides vital insight into what controls the circulation in this region of Mars. In turn, this better understanding of the regional circulation allows us to better interpret the local scale winds partially measured by MSL

Circulating adrenomedullin in cirrhosis: relationship to hyperdynamic circulation
BACKGROUND/AIMS:
Peripheral arterial vasodilation may be the key factor in the sodium and water retention of cirrhosis. The mechanism responsible for this vasodilation remains to be fully elucidated. Adrenomedullin is a novel peptide, highly expressed in cardiovascular tissues, with potent and long-lasting vasodilating activity.
METHODS:
The possible implication of adrenomedullin in the hemodynamic changes of cirrhosis has been investigated. We measured the plasma concentration of adrenomedullin in 20 cirrhotic patients and 11 healthy subjects. In addition, systemic, portal and renal hemodynamics, hormonal factors and renal function parameters were evaluated in the same patients.
RESULTS:
Circulating adrenomedullin was significantly higher in the group of patients with cirrhosis (72.1; 46-100 vs 21.6; 11-34 fmol/dl, respectively; p<0.02) and was directly correlated with the Pugh score (r: 0.6; p: 0.01), inversely correlated with the creatinine clearance (r: -0.6; p<0.01) and tended to inversely correlate with systemic vascular resistance index (r: -0.46; p: 0.07). There were no portal-peripheral differences in adrenomedullin levels. Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt insertion did not induce changes in the peripheral concentration of adrenomedullin, but baseline values of this hormone predicted the degree of hyperdynamic circulation after TIPS.
CONCLUSIONS:
Circulating adrenomedullin is increased in cirrhosis. These levels increase with the severity of the disease, especially in patients with hepatorenal syndrome. This peptide may contribute to vasodilation of cirrhosis
Energy Intake, Macronutrient Profile and Food Sources of Spanish Children Aged One to < 10 Years-Results from the EsNuPI Study
The present study aimed to assess energy intake, nutrient profile and food sources in Spanish children participating in the EsNuPI ("Estudio Nutricional en Poblacion Infantil Espanola") study. Plausibility of energy intake and adequacy of nutrient intakes to international recommendations were analyzed in a final sample of 1448 subjects (728 boys and 720 girls) and one group representative of the 1 to <10 years old urban Spanish children (reference sample (n = 707)) who consumed milk and one of the same age who consumed adapted milk over the last year (adapted milk consumers sample (n = 741)) were compared. Both groups completed data of a face-to-face and a telephone 24-h dietary recalls. Both the reference and the adapted milk consumers samples reported an adequate daily energy intake (1503 kcal/day and 1404 kcal/day); and a high contribution to total energy from protein (16.5% and 15.6%) and fat (36.5% and 35.9%). Also, a high percentage of children from both samples were below the lower limit of the recommendations for carbohydrates (47.8% and 39.3%). As the percentage of plausible energy reporters was high for both groups (84.7% and 83.5%, respectively), data for the whole sample were analyzed. Milk and dairy, cereals, meat and derived products, fats and oils, bakery and pastry, fruits and vegetables contributed to about 80% of the total energy intake in both groups. However, the reference sample reported significantly more contribution to energy from cereals, meat and meat products, bakery and pastry and ready to cook/eat foods; meanwhile, the adapted milk consumers sample reported significantly more energy from milk and dairy products, fruits and eggs. Those results suggest that adapted milk consumers have better adherence to the food-based dietary guidelines. Further analyses are warranted to characterize food patterns and the quality of the diet in the EsNuPI study population
Clustering of Dietary Patterns and Lifestyles among Spanish Children in the EsNuPI Study
Dietary patterns (DPs) are known to be tied to lifestyle behaviors. Understanding DPs
and their relationships with lifestyle factors can help to prevent children from engaging in unhealthy
dietary practices. We aimed to describe DPs in Spanish children aged 1 to <10 years and to
examine their associations with sociodemographic and lifestyle variables. The consumption of
toddler and young children milk formulas, enriched and fortified milk within the Spanish pediatric
population is increasing, and there is a lack of evidence whether the consumption of this type of milk
is causing an impact on nutrient intakes and if they are helping to reach the nutrient recommendations.
Within the Nutritional Study in the Spanish Pediatric Population (EsNuPI), we considered two study
cohorts and three different age groups in three year-intervals in each of them. The study cohort
included 740 children in a representative sample of the urban non-vegan Spanish population and 772 children in a convenience cohort of adapted milk consumers (AMS) (including follow-on formula,
toddler’s milk, growing up milk, and fortified and enriched milks) who provided information about
sociodemographics, lifestyle, and dietary habits; a food frequency questionnaire was used for the latter.
Principal component analysis was performed to identify DPs from 18 food groups. Food groups
and sociodemographic/lifestyle variables were combined through a hierarchical cluster algorithm.
Three DPs predominated in every age group and study sample: a palatable energy-dense food dietary
pattern, and two Mediterranean-like DPs. However, children from the AMS showed a predominant
dietary pattern markedly related to the Mediterranean diet, with high consumption of cereals, fruits
and vegetables, as well as milk and dairy products. The age of children and certain lifestyle factors,
namely level of physical activity, parental education, and household income, correlated closely with
the dietary clusters. Thus, the findings provide insight into designing lifestyle interventions that
could reverse the appearance of unhealthy DPs in the Spanish child population
Dietary Intake, Nutritional Adequacy and Food Sources of Total Fat and Fatty Acids, and Relationships with Personal and Family Factors in Spanish Children Aged One to <10 Years: Results of the EsNuPI Study
We aimed to determine the usual intake of total fat, fatty acids (FAs), and their main food
sources in a representative cohort of the Spanish pediatric population aged 1 to <10 years (n = 707)
who consumed all types of milk and an age-matched cohort who consumed adapted milk over the last
year (including follow-on formula, toddler’s milk, growing-up milk, and fortified and enriched milks)
(n = 741) who were participants in the EsNuPI study (in English, Nutritional Study in the Spanish
Pediatric Population). Dietary intake, measured through two 24 h dietary recalls, was compared to
the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UN-FAO) recommendations. Both cohorts showed a high intake of saturated fatty acids
(SFAs), according to FAO recommendations, as there are no numerical recommendations for SFAs at
EFSA. Also, low intake of essential fatty acids (EFAs; linoleic acid (LA) and α-linolenic acid (ALA))
and long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA) of the n-3 series, mainly docosahexaenoic
acid (DHA) were observed according to EFSA and FAO recommendations. The three main sources of
total fat and different FAs were milk and dairy products, oils and fats, and meat and meat products.
The consumption of adapted milk was one of the main factors associated with better adherence to
the nutritional recommendations of total fat, SFAs, EFAs, PUFAs; and resulted as the main factor
associated with better adherence to n-3 fatty acids intake recommendations. Knowledge of the dietary
intake and food sources of total fat and FAs in children could help in designing and promoting
effective and practical age-targeted guidelines to promote the consumption of EFA- and n-3 PUFA-rich
foods in this stage of life
Mars Science Laboratory Observations of the 2018/Mars Year 34 Global Dust Storm
Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity rover observations of the 2018/Mars year 34 global/planet-encircling dust storm represent the first in situ measurements of a global dust storm with dedicated meteorological sensors since the Viking Landers. The Mars Science Laboratory team planned and executed a science campaign lasting approximately 100 Martian sols to study the storm involving an enhanced cadence of environmental monitoring using the rover's meteorological sensors, cameras, and spectrometers. Mast Camera 880-nanometer optical depth reached 8.5, and Rover Environmental Monitoring Station measurements indicated a 97 percent reduction in incident total ultraviolet solar radiation at the surface, 30 degrees Kelvin reduction in diurnal range of air temperature, and an increase in the semidiurnal pressure tide amplitude to 40 pascals. No active dust-lifting sites were detected within Gale Crater, and global and local atmospheric dynamics were drastically altered during the storm. This work presents an overview of the mission's storm observations and initial results

This work presents an overview of the mission’s storm observations and initial results.Plain Language SummaryThe 2018 Mars global dust storm was observed by six spacecraft in orbit and two rovers on the surface. This paper provides an overview and description of the Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity rover’s observations during the storm. For approximately 100 Martian days (sols), the rover conducted an enhanced cadence of environmental observations to study the storm. These are the first observations of a Martian global dust storm with meteorological sensors near the equator. Atmospheric opacity reached a peak of 8.5, attenuating ~97% of the total solar ultraviolet radiation at the surface. Most of the dust was sourced from outside Gale Crater, with no indications of dust lifting within the crater during the height of the storm. Meteorological conditions were substantially altered, with changes to the pressure, temperature, and humidity patterns. Dust devil activity ceased for several weeks due to the reduction in temperature contrast between the surface and atmosphere. There was no indication of unusual aeolian transport, suggesting Martian global dust storms are not a major cause of sand dune movement.Key PointsThe Curiosity rover conducted a dedicated science campaign to study the 2018 Mars global dust stormAtmospheric opacity reached a peak of 8.5, and horizontal visibility dropped to 2.7Â kmMeteorological conditions in Gale Crater were substantially altered, with changes to the pressure, temperature, and humidity cyclesPeer Reviewedhttps://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/147828/1/grl58365_am.pdfhttps://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/147828/2/grl58365.pd
