Cross-sections of available forage and extrusa fractions of leaf blades of Tanzânia-1, Mombaça and Massai grasses were evaluated for anatomic structure and observations of residue of in vitro digestibility. The observations showed greater frequency of scherenchyma girders in leaf blades of cv Massai, compared with order grasses. Tanzânia-1 and Mombaça residues were more susceptible to digestion, while Massai presented more frequently scherenchyma girders associated with less digestible bundle sheath

Anatomical Characteristics and Leaf Blade Digestibility of Five \u3cem\u3ePanicum\u3c/em\u3e Genotypes under Integrated Crop-Livestock-Forest System

Integrated crop-livestock-forest systems (ICLF) are intended to increase land use efficiency and to harvest benefits from interactions among the components involved. Thus, cattle husbandry success on such systems depends on the suitability and adaptability of the forages used. Shadow causes stress to plants growing in the understory of ICLF systems due to limitation of photo synthetically active radiation, whose intensity varies with location, time of the year and the tree component. Reduction of light incidence on forage leads to limited growth rates as a function of energy restriction necessary to the photosynthetic processes, requiring a number of morphological, physiological, structural and anatomical adaptations from the plant, called acclimatization (Gobbi et al., 2011). In this context, this work aimed to evaluate anatomical characteristics of tropical Panicum grasses under an ICLF system in the Brazilian Cerrado

RESPONSABILIDADE SOCIAL EM INSTITUIÇÕES FINANCEIRAS E INVESTIMENTOS RESPONSÁVEIS EM TEMPOS DE PANDEMIA

    Get PDF

Objective This study aimed to compare the intestinal absorption of iron and calcium between soy-based and cow's milk- based infant formulas in weanling rats. Methods Twenty male Wistar rats, twenty-one days old on the first day of weaning, were used in this experiment, divided in two Groups, one Group was fed soy protein-based infant formula the other, cow's milk protein-based infant formula. During the study period (ten consecutive days) the animals received food and water ad libitum. Hematocrit and hemoglobin were evaluated on the first, fifth, and tenth days by the Wintrobe and cyanomethemoglobin methods. Feces and urine were collected, beginning on the fifth day, for three consecutive days. On the tenth day, hepatic iron content was also analyzed. Hepatic iron as well as fecal and urinary iron and calcium analyses were performed using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. At thirty-one days of age, the animals were anesthetized with ketamine and xylazine and sacrificed by exsanguination via the vena cava. Results The final concentration of hemoglobin in the group soy-based infant formula and milk-based infant formula were: 10.3 +/- 1.3g/dL and 10.9 +/- 1.0g/dL (p=0.310). The apparent absorption of iron and calcium, in that order, were: 73.4 +/- 10.2% and 70.2 +/- 9.5%97.2 +/- 0.7% and 97.6 +/- 1.0% (p=0.501p=0.290). The apparent calcium retention was: 88.4%+/- 2.2 and 88.6 +/- 2.6%(p=0.848). Hepatic iron content was: 522.0 +/- 121.1mg/g and 527.8 +/- 80.5mg/g (p=0.907). Conclusion Intestinal iron and calcium absorption from soy-based infant formula is similar to that from milk-based infant formula in weanling rats.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Univ Fed Sao Paulo, Escola Paulista Med, Dept Pediat, R Coronel Lisboa,826,Vila Clementino, BR-04020041 Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilUniv Fed Sao Paulo, Escola Paulista Med, Lab Bromotol & Microbiol Alimentos, BR-04020041 Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilUniversidade Federal de São Paulo, Escola Paulista de Medicina, Departamento de Pediatria. Intervention Models in Functional Connectivity Identification Applied to fMRI

    Get PDF
Recent advances in neuroimaging techniques have provided precise spatial localization of brain activation applied in several neuroscience subareas. The development of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), based on the BOLD signal, is one of the most popular techniques related to the detection of neuronal activation. However, understanding the interactions between several neuronal modules is also an important task, providing a better comprehension about brain dynamics. Nevertheless, most connectivity studies in fMRI are based on a simple correlation analysis, which is only an association measure and does not provide the direction of information flow between brain areas. Other proposed methods like structural equation modeling (SEM) seem to be attractive alternatives. However, this approach assumes prior information about the causality direction and stationarity conditions, which may not be satisfied in fMRI experiments. Generally, the fMRI experiments are related to an activation task; hence, the stimulus conditions should also be included in the model. In this paper, we suggest an intervention analysis, which includes stimulus condition, allowing a nonstationary modeling. Furthermore, an illustrative application to real fMRI dataset from a simple motor task is presented
