Scalar meson mediated nuclear mu-e conversion
We study the nuclear mu-e conversion in the general framework of the
effective Lagrangian approach without referring to any specific realization of
the physics beyond the standard model (SM) responsible for lepton flavor
violation (LFV). We analyze the role of scalar meson exchange between the
lepton and nucleon currents and show its relevance for the coherent channel of
mu-e conversion. We show that this mechanism introduces modifications in the
predicted mu-e conversion rates in comparison with the conventional direct
nucleon mechanism, based on the contact type interactions of the nucleon
currents with the LFV leptonic current. We derive from the experimental data
lower limits on the mass scales of the generic LFV lepton-quark contact terms
and demonstrate that they are more stringent than the similar limits existing
in the literature.Comment: 14 pages, 1 figur
Corrections to Sirlin's Theorem in Chiral Perturbation Theory
We present the results of the first two-loop calculation of a form factor in
full Chiral Perturbation Theory. We choose a specific
linear combination of and form factors (the one
appearing in Sirlin's theorem) which does not get contributions from order
operators with unknown constants. For the charge radii, the correction to
the previous one-loop result turns out to be significant, but still there is no
agreement with the present data due to large experimental uncertainties in the
kaon charge radii.Comment: 6 pages, Latex, 2 LaTeX figure
About one long-range contribution to K+ -> pi+ l+ l- decays
We investigate the mechanism of K+ -> pi+ l+ l- (l= e, mu) decays in which a
virtual photon is emitted either from the incoming K+ or the outgoing pi+. We
point out some inconsistencies with and between two previous calculations,
discuss the possible experimental inputs, and estimate the branching fractions.
This mechanism alone fails to explain the existing experimental data by more
than one order-of-magnitude. But it may show itself by its interference with
the leading long-range mechanism dominated by the a_1^+ and rho^0 mesons.Comment: 12 pages, RevTeX, epsf.sty, 2 embedded figure
Lepton Flavor Violation: Constraints from exotic muon to electron conversion
The exotic neutrinoless nuclear conversion is studied within
the conventional extensions of the standard model as well as in the minimal
supersymmetric (SUSY) models with and without R-parity conservation. The
dependence of the conversion rates on the nucleon and nuclear
structure is consistently taken into account. Using our calculated transition
matrix elements and the available experimental data on the branching ratio
for Ti and Pb as well as the expected experimental
sensitivity for Al employed as a target in the planned at Brookhaven
conversion (MECO) experiment, we extract very severe constraints
for the flavor violation parameters. We especially emphasize on the constraints
resulting for SUSY R-parity violating parameters.Comment: 14 pages, 2 figures. Based on the Invited talk given by T.S. Kosmas

Electromagnetic Meson Form Factors in the Salpeter Model
We present a covariant scheme to calculate mesonic transitions in the
framework of the Salpeter equation for -states. The full Bethe
Salpeter amplitudes are reconstructed from equal time amplitudes which were
obtained in a previous paper\cite{Mue} by solving the Salpeter equation for a
confining plus an instanton induced interaction. This method is applied to
calculate electromagnetic form factors and decay widths of low lying
pseudoscalar and vector mesons including predictions for CEBAF experiments. We
also describe the momentum transfer dependence for the processes

First Observation of the Rare Decay Mode K-long -> e+ e-
In an experiment designed to search for and study very rare two-body decay
modes of the K-long, we have observed four examples of the decay K-long -> e+
e-, where the expected background is 0.17+-0.10 events. This observation
translates into a branching fraction of 8.7^{+5.7}_{-4.1} X 10^{-12},
consistent with recent theoretical predictions. This result represents by far
the smallest branching fraction yet measured in particle physics.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figure
Search for the Weak Decay of an H Dibaryon
We have searched for a neutral dibaryon decaying via and
. Our search has yielded two candidate events from which we set
an upper limit on the production cross section. Normalizing to the
inclusive production cross section, we find at 90% C.L., for an of mass
2.15 GeV/.Comment: 11 pages, 6 postscript figures, epsfig, aps, preprint, revte
MEG Upgrade Proposal
We propose the continuation of the MEG experiment to search for the charged
lepton flavour violating decay (cLFV) \mu \to e \gamma, based on an upgrade of
the experiment, which aims for a sensitivity enhancement of one order of
magnitude compared to the final MEG result, down to the
level. The key features of this new MEG upgrade are an increased rate
capability of all detectors to enable running at the intensity frontier and
improved energy, angular and timing resolutions, for both the positron and
photon arms of the detector. On the positron-side a new low-mass, single
volume, high granularity tracker is envisaged, in combination with a new highly
segmented, fast timing counter array, to track positron from a thinner stopping
target. The photon-arm, with the largest liquid xenon (LXe) detector in the
world, totalling 900 l, will also be improved by increasing the granularity at
the incident face, by replacing the current photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) with a
larger number of smaller photosensors and optimizing the photosensor layout
also on the lateral faces. A new DAQ scheme involving the implementation of a
new combined readout board capable of integrating the diverse functions of
digitization, trigger capability and splitter functionality into one condensed
unit, is also under development. We describe here the status of the MEG
experiment, the scientific merits of the upgrade and the experimental methods
we plan to use.Comment: A. M. Baldini and T. Mori Spokespersons. Research proposal submitted

Mass matrix Ansatz and lepton flavor violation in the THDM-III
Predictive Higgs-fermion couplings can be obtained when a specific texture
for the fermion mass matrices is included in the general two-Higgs doublet
model. We derive the form of these couplings in the charged lepton sector using
a Hermitian mass matrix Ansatz with four-texture zeros. The presence of
unconstrained phases in the vertices phi-li-lj modifies the pattern of
flavor-violating Higgs interactions. Bounds on the model parameters are
obtained from present limits on rare lepton flavor violating processes, which
could be extended further by the search for the decay tau -> mu mu mu and mu-e
conversion at future experiments. The signal from Higgs boson decays phi -> tau
mu could be searched at the large hadron collider (LHC), while e-mu transitions
could produce a detectable signal at a future e mu-collider, through the
reaction e mu -> h0 -> tau tau.Comment: 17 pages, 9 figure
