Local structure of In_(0.5)Ga_(0.5)As from joint high-resolution and differential pair distribution function analysis
High resolution total and indium differential atomic pair distribution
functions (PDFs) for In_(0.5)Ga_(0.5)As alloys have been obtained by high
energy and anomalous x-ray diffraction experiments, respectively. The first
peak in the total PDF is resolved as a doublet due to the presence of two
distinct bond lengths, In-As and Ga-As. The In differential PDF, which involves
only atomic pairs containing In, yields chemical specific information and helps
ease the structure data interpretation. Both PDFs have been fit with structure
models and the way in that the underlying cubic zinc-blende lattice of
In_(0.5)Ga_(0.5)As semiconductor alloy distorts locally to accommodate the
distinct In-As and Ga-As bond lengths present has been quantified.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figur
A Machine-Synesthetic Approach To DDoS Network Attack Detection
In the authors' opinion, anomaly detection systems, or ADS, seem to be the
most perspective direction in the subject of attack detection, because these
systems can detect, among others, the unknown (zero-day) attacks. To detect
anomalies, the authors propose to use machine synesthesia. In this case,
machine synesthesia is understood as an interface that allows using image
classification algorithms in the problem of detecting network anomalies, making
it possible to use non-specialized image detection methods that have recently
been widely and actively developed. The proposed approach is that the network
traffic data is "projected" into the image. It can be seen from the
experimental results that the proposed method for detecting anomalies shows
high results in the detection of attacks. On a large sample, the value of the

Pavement maintenance procedures with and without milling materials
AbstractThis study evaluates maintenance treatment followed by different Districts of New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT). In addition, two case studies on the use of old pavement materials, called the âmillingsâ, in maintenance projects are reported. Based on this study, it is observed that none of the Districts have a written procedure for maintenance work. Rather Districts rely on the experience of the maintenance crew for conducting maintenance projects. All Districts prefer to use chip seal for maintenance irrespective of distress conditions of the pavements. Patching and crack sealing are usually done before chip sealing to extend the life of the chip seals. Sand seal, scrub seal, and slurry seal projects are not done by District maintenance crews but by outside contractors. It is also observed that all Districts are interested in using millings in maintenance projects and most have already used millings in at least one maintenance project with some success and failure. Most of the Districts have used coarse fraction of millings in chip seal projects successfully. However, they failed to find a proper way to process the fine fractions of millings. Case Study I shows that fine millings can be used to construct thin overlay when mixed with emulsion in pug mill or hot drums. Case Study II concludes that fine millings can be used as fine/sand seal successfully following the same procedure and using the same equipment as chip seal

When can Muslims withdraw or withhold life support? A narrative review of Islamic juridical rulings.
When it is ethically justifiable to stop medical treatment? For many Muslim patients, families, and clinicians this ethical question remains a challenging one as Islamic ethico-legal guidance on such matters remains scattered and difficult to interpret. In light of this gap, we conducted a systematic literature review to aggregate rulings from Islamic jurists and juridical councils on whether, and when, it is permitted to withdraw and/or withhold life-sustaining care. A total of 16 fatwÄs were found, 8 of which were single-author rulings, and 8 represented the collective view of a juridical council. The fatwÄs are similar in that nearly all judge that Islamic law, provided certain conditions are met, permits abstaining from life-sustaining treatment. Notably, the justifying conditions appear to rely on physician assessment of the clinical prognosis. The fatwÄs differ when it comes to what conditions justify withdrawing or withholding life- sustaining care. Our analyses suggest that while notions of futility greatly impact the bioethical discourse regarding with holding and/or withdrawal of treatment, the conceptualization of futility lacks nuance. Therefore, clinicians, Islamic jurists, and bioethicists need to come together in order to unify a conception of medical futility and relate it to the ethics of withholding and/or withdrawal of treatment
Quantum-Hall activation gaps in graphene
We have measured the quantum-Hall activation gaps in graphene at filling
factors and for magnetic fields up to 32 T and temperatures
from 4 K to 300 K. The gap can be described by thermal excitation to
broadened Landau levels with a width of 400 K. In contrast, the gap measured at
is strongly temperature and field dependent and approaches the expected
value for sharp Landau levels for fields T and temperatures
K. We explain this surprising behavior by a narrowing of the lowest Landau

Performance of Monolayer Graphene Nanomechanical Resonators with Electrical Readout
The enormous stiffness and low density of graphene make it an ideal material
for nanoelectromechanical (NEMS) applications. We demonstrate fabrication and
electrical readout of monolayer graphene resonators, and test their response to
changes in mass and temperature. The devices show resonances in the MHz range.
The strong dependence of the resonant frequency on applied gate voltage can be
fit to a membrane model, which yields the mass density and built-in strain.
Upon removal and addition of mass, we observe changes in both the density and
the strain, indicating that adsorbates impart tension to the graphene. Upon
cooling, the frequency increases; the shift rate can be used to measure the
unusual negative thermal expansion coefficient of graphene. The quality factor
increases with decreasing temperature, reaching ~10,000 at 5 K. By establishing
many of the basic attributes of monolayer graphene resonators, these studies
lay the groundwork for applications, including high-sensitivity mass detectors
Psychometric validation of the Bangla fear of COVID-19 Scale: confirmatory factor analysis and Rasch analysis
The recently developed Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S) is a seven-item uni-dimensional scale that assesses the severity of fears of COVID-19. Given the rapid increase of COVID-19 cases in Bangladesh, we aimed to translate and validate the FCV-19S in Bangla. The forward-backward translation method was used to translate the English version of the questionnaire into Bangla. The reliability and validity properties of the Bangla FCV-19S were rigorously psychometrically evaluated (utilizing both confirmatory factor analysis and Rasch analysis) in relation to socio-demographic variables, national lockdown variables, and response to the Bangla Health Patient Questionnaire. The sample comprised 8550 Bangladeshi participants. The Cronbach α value for the Bangla FCV-19S was 0.871 indicating very good internal reliability. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis showed that the uni-dimensional factor structure of the FCV-19S fitted well with the data. Negative Thermal Expansion Coefficient of Graphene Measured by Raman Spectroscopy
The thermal expansion coefficient (TEC) of single-layer graphene is estimated
with temperature-dependent Raman spectroscopy in the temperature range between
200 and 400 K. It is found to be strongly dependent on temperature but remains
negative in the whole temperature range, with a room temperature value of
-8.0x10^{-6} K^{-1}. The strain caused by the TEC mismatch between graphene and
the substrate plays a crucial role in determining the physical properties of
graphene, and hence its effect must be accounted for in the interpretation of

Probing Mechanical Properties of Graphene with Raman Spectroscopy
The use of Raman scattering techniques to study the mechanical properties of
graphene films is reviewed here. The determination of Gruneisen parameters of
suspended graphene sheets under uni- and bi-axial strain is discussed and the
values are compared to theoretical predictions. The effects of the
graphene-substrate interaction on strain and to the temperature evolution of
the graphene Raman spectra are discussed. Finally, the relation between
mechanical and thermal properties is presented along with the characterization

Two-marker protein profile predicts poor prognosis in patients with early rectal cancer
The aim of this study was to establish an immunohistochemical protein profile to complement preoperative staging and identify rectal cancer patients at high-risk of adverse outcome. Immunohistochemistry was performed on a tissue microarray including 482 rectal cancers for APAF-1, EphB2, MST1, Ki67, p53, RHAMM, RKIP and CD8+ tumour infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs). After resampling of the data and multivariable analysis, the most reproducible markers were combined and prognosis evaluated as stratified by pT and pN status. In multivariable analysis, only positive RHAMM (P<0.001; HR=1.94 (1.44â2.61)) and loss of CD8+ TILs (P=0.006; HR=0.63 (0.45â0.88)) were independent prognostic factors. The 5-year cancer-specific survival rate for RHAMM+/TILâ patients was 30% (95% CI 21â40%) compared to 76% (95% CI: 66â84%) for RHAMMâ/TIL+ patients (P<0.001). The 5-year cancer-specific survival of T1/T2/RHAMM+/TILâ patients was 48% (20â72%) and significantly worse compared to T3/T4/RHAMMâ/TIL+ patients (71% 95% CI 56â82%); P=0.039). Stratifying by nodal status, only N+/RHAMM+/TILâ patients demonstrated a significantly worse prognosis than N0/RHAMM+/TILâ patients (P=0.005). Loss of CD8+ TILs was predictive of local recurrence in RHAMM+ tumours (P=0.009) only. RHAMM and CD8+ TILs may assist in identifying early stage rectal cancer patients facing a particularly poor prognosis and who may derive a benefit from preoperative therapy
