Numerical study of circle fractal grid perforated plate as a turbulent generator in combustion chamber
Fractal grids can be used to design turbulent flows with low power losses and high
turbulence intensities for intense yet economic mixing over a region of designed length and
location. The introducing circle grid perforated plate is the main aim of this present paper. In this
numerical work, we want to ascertain a new approach in turbulence generators on the structure of
premixes flames using perforated plate fractal-grids pattern. In this paper, we compared circle grid
perforated plate by varies using its diameters, spacing and number of holes on the plate. The result
showed good perceptivity of the fractal generated turbulence and the fractal flow physics. The
turbulent intensity can be increased by a grid with higher blockage ratio
Development of a Red Mud-Epoxy Intumescent Coating for Steel Structures
The effect of red mud as filler in an intumescent coating with mixture of ammonium poly phosphate (APP), melamine (MEL), boric acid (BA), expandable graphite (EG), bisphenol A epoxy resin BE188 (BPA) and ACR hardener H-2319 was presented. Red mud is a waste product from Bayer process. It produces twice amount of red mud as waste compared to the alumina production. The amount of red mud was varied from 0 – 5 grams as to investigate the influence of red mud on the basic intumescent coating formulation on its fire retardant performance. The char expansion, residual weight of the intumescent coating and fire penetration test were executed. The coating went for furnace test at 500°C for 30 minutes as to analyze the char expansion and char structure. The optimum red mud amount as to get the largest char expansion was at 2 gram which is 3.69 times of the initial thickness. Fire test was conducted as to evaluate the heat penetration to the coated steel. The temperature of steel plate was recorded for 60 minutes at an interval of 1 minute. The results showed intumescent coating with red mud content protected steel at lower temperature compared to the constant formulation. With 2 gram of red mud, the coating successfully stabilized an impacting fire below 150°C for 60 minutes. The coating was characterized using thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) at 10°C/min under N2, over the whole range of temperature between 50-800°C. The red mud increased the residual weight by 1.86% at 1g of red mud while decreased the residual weight for 11.05% at 3g of red mud and constant residual weight produced as to compare to the constant IC formulation when 5g of red mud was used. Therefore, red mud influenced the performance of the basic intumescent coating on its fire retardant properties. Utilization of red mud as filler reduced the environmental pollution as well as contributing to the safety of the society
Life Cycle and Ovipositional Preference of Asian Papaya Fruit Fly (Bactrocera Papayae Drew & Hancock) for Guava (Psidium Guajaya, L.)
Asian papaya fruit fly Bactrocera papayae is one of the insects’ pest that is very destructive and causing severe damage to guava, Psidium guajava, Linn. Details on B. papayae are still lacking compared to the other species such as B. carambolae and B. cucurbitae. This study was conducted to determine the number of larval instars, the life cycle and ovipositional preference of the B. papayae on guava.
Result showed that the B. papayae underwent three larval instars which can be determined by morphometric characters of the length and width of the larvae’s bodies. The body length for the first, second and third instars were 1.27 ± 0.03, 4.33 ± 0.05 and 7.84 ± 0.07 mm respectively, whilst the width for the body were 0.23 ± 0.01, 1.04 ± 0.01 and 1.85 ± 0.03 mm respectively. Moulting took one day for each larval instar.
In the life cycle study, the percentage of individuals survived decreased as the stages changed from egg until adult. Findings showed that the eggs hatched after 1.16 days. Larvae underwent three instars and survived for 12.02 ± 0.13 days before entering the pupal stage. Pupae collected emerged as the adults after 7.03 ± 0.08 days. It was observed that the longevity of the adult male B. papayae was not significantly (P>0.05) different compared to the female adult.
The ovipositional preference could be determined by investigating the number of larvae laid by single female per guava. Bactrocera papayae female was observed preferred to oviposit on the mature guavas in both choice and no-choice experiments. There was no significantly different between the numbers of ovipositional punctures made and larvae laid on guavas in the choice and no-choice experiments.
There was a significantly different (P<0.05) in the number of larvae obtained at different maturity stages in both choice and no-choice experiments. In the choice and no-choice experiments, the numbers of larvae observed were comparatively higher in more ripened guavas than less ripened ones. This indicated that mature guavas provide more needs and nutrients required by the larvae to gro
PWM Inverter for Electric Drive Train Application
Controlling AC power load using DC supply requires complex design and
circuit. Basically the controlling system comprises of low power control unit, inverter
and the load. Multiple Pulse Width Modulation (MPWM) technique was used for
controlling the control unit design as it gives low harmonic distortion compared with
other types. Six MPWM signals were used to trigger the six channels in inverter circuit
and all the signals were synchronous to avoid short circuit in inverter circuit. The design
of the MPWM was simplified with an IC IR2130, which provided matched voltage
trigger, adequate dead time for low and high channels and over current shut down. In
inverter circuit design the main component in controlling the high current flow from DC
supply to load is power device. There are various power devices available in the market but IGBT was chosen due to its high current rating and simple triggering
process. Apart from single IGBT with high current rating being used in each channel;
paralleling several IGBTs is also the technique that can be used to increase the power
conversion in inverter circuits and to reduce the cost of design. It is evident that by
paralleling several low current power devices, the amount of current produced equates
the single high current power device. For the AC load, three-phase squirrel cage AC
motor was chosen after comparing with other types of motors as it provides several
advantages in terms of being robust, cheap and maintenance free.
Overall result showed there was smooth control of AC motor using single
configuration technique compared to using parallel configuration technique. Further
investigations are required especially on the use of parallel configuration technique with
IGBT as power device and also in simplifying the complex snubber circuit, needed for
protecting power devices in inverter circuit from high current and voltage transients
Development Of Steer-By-Wire (SBW) Controller System For Steering Respone
This research focuses on the development of Steer-By-Wire (SBW) controller system for steering response. The steering system is an essential part of the interface between the driver and the vehicle that provides the possibility of lateral guidance. SBW system is means as removing the mechanical linkages and hydraulic part with electronic system. The development of vehicle model consists of ride, tire and handling models used in this study. The vehicle model is then validated with CarSimEd. The relation between the rack and pinion is identified for the steering ratio on SBW model. The steering system is modeled combine with actuator model in MATLAB Simulink. There are several types of controller are used on SBW system to find the similar response with the conventional steering. The selected controller will be applied on SBW system to control the actuator in simulation and experimental. The simulation result is validated with Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation (HiLS) in real time situation using xPC Target application in MATLAB Simulink to control SBW system in experiment. The target outcome of this study for SBW steering system is to get a responsiveness similarity to conventional steering system with selected controller by comparing both steering system. The study shows that such similarity was achieved. The study of SBW system response is beneficial in the SBW system with the proposed controller can be implemented on real vehicles
Study on The Rheological Properties of Partially Hydrolysed Polyacrylamide Solution at Elevated Temperatnre
The main purpose of using polymer in enhanced oil recovery is to increase the viscosity of
water. In this aspect, maintaining the viscosity of aqueous polymer solution in harsh
environment conditions like high temperature and high pressure is a challenge. Thus, it is
important to investigate the rheological behaviour of the polymer under such condition. In this
study, partially hydrolysed polyacrylamide (PHPAM) solution was chose as the case study.
PHPAM solution was experimented under elevated temperature range from so·c to 100 ·cat
atmospheric pressure. PHP AM solution in the range of 500 ppm for master solution and I 0
ppm 50 ppm for diluted solution were covered. Brookfield cap 2000+ viscometer is employed
for operating, measuring and analysing this experimental investigation. The results obtained
are expected to provide better understanding on the flow behaviour of HP AM at elevated
temperature
Anime Dan Nilai Masyarakat Jepun : Satu Kajian Analisis Nilai Berdasarkan Naruto Dan Dragonball Gt
The concept of conducting a research on Japanese anime will certainly bring on a debate
on the necessity or relevance of such a study. Some say it is a positive way of looking at a
new form of pop culture and at the same time others would argue that this type of
research is imposing unnecessary seriousness on a light subj ect. An indepth study on
anime suggests that there is more to anime than what we see, know and expect
