Hubungan di antara persepsi risiko terhadap ekspedisi pendakian adventur dan kemahiran pemikiran kritis

Bidang adventur luar sebagai asas pembelajaran adalah tidak bercanggahan dengan teori-teori pembelajaran eksperiensial.Kajian ini dijalankan untuk mengkaji hubungan di antara persepsi risiko dan kemahiran pemikiran kritis dengan berlatarbelakangkan kepada aktiviti pendakian adventur gunung-gunung di Semenanjung Malaysia. Sampel kajian ini adalah terdiri daripada 112 mahasiswa-mahasiswi institusi-institusi pengajian tinggi.2 set borang soalselidik ditadbir ke atas setiap responden sebelum dan selepas ekspedisi yang disertai mereka.Data yang diperolehi membuktikan secara empirikal bahawa terdapat hubungan yang signifikan lagi kuat dan positif di antara persepsi risiko dengan kemahiran pemikiran kritis.Sehubungan dengan itu, bolehlah dibuat penaakulan bahawa peningkatan kemahiran tersebut telah didapati selari dengan peningkatan persepsi risiko para responden.Dengan itu, mana-mana ekspedisi pendakian adventur yang ditingkatkan tahap persepsi risiko peserta-pesertanya akan juga dapat dilihat peningkatan kepada tahap kemahiran pemikiran kritis mereka

The impact of environmental dynamism on strategic outsourcing success

Adapting quickly to environmental dynamism is essential for an organization to develop outsourcing strategic and management in order to sustain competitive advantage.This research used the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) tool to investigate the factors influence of environmental dynamism on the strategic outsourcing success among electrical and electronic manufacturing industries in outsourcing management.Statistical results confirm that the inclusion of customer demand, technological change, and competition level as a new combination concept of environmental dynamism has positively affects outsourcing success. Additionally, this research demonstrates the acceptability of PLS-SEM as a statistical analysis to furnish a better understanding of environmental dynamism in outsourcing management in Malaysia vividly. A practical finding is contributed for academics and practitioners in the field of outsourcing management

Artikel ini memberi tumpuan kepada petunjuk petunjuk awalan yang dianggap lebih berkesan dalam sistem keselamatan berbanding dengan petunjuk-petunjuk susulan.Berdasarkan tinjauan literatur, prestasi keselamatan terbahagi kepada dua iaitu prestasi keselamatan individu dan prestasi keselamatan organisasi.Penulis menfokuskan prestasi keselamatan di peringkat individu dengan membincangkan definisi prestasi keselamatan, dimensi-dimensi yang digunakan oleh penyelidik-penyelidik lepas, instrumen pengukuran dan juga beberapa kajian lepas yang menggunakan pembolehubah prestasi keselamatan.Sehubungan itu, hasil daripada perbincangan ini akan menawarkan konsep yang lebih jelas kepada penyelidik masa depan untuk mengukur prestasi keselamatan diperingkat individu

Perniagaan berpusat di rumah: Kajian profil peribadi, keluarga dan perniagaan di kalangan usahawan di Daerah Kubang Pasu, Kedah

Perniagaan berpusat di rumah (Home-based business, HBB) merupakan perniagaan mikro yang banyak dijalankan oleh wanita berbanding lelaki sebagai usaha untuk menambah pendapatan peribadi, keluarga dan lain-lain sebab. Pada masa ini, kurang perhatian yang diberikan oleh penyelidik tempatan menyebabkan maklumat profil peribadi, keluarga dan perniagaan usahawan ini kurang diketahui walhal umum telah mengetahui bahawa kegiatan ini telah lama dan ramai yang mengusahakannya.Bagi memenuhi kekurangan tersebut lantaran kepentingan untuk membantu golongan ini perlu disedarkan kepada umum, maka penyelidik telah mengambil langkah awalan mengkaji profil-profil tersebut.Kajian ini telah dilakukan di daerah Kubang Pasu, Kedah dan akibat daripada tiada maklumat mengenai populasi kajian, maka kaedah snow ball telah digunakan sebagai kaedah persampelan kajian.Hasilnya, seramai 91 orang responden telah terlibat dalam kajian ini di mana mereka telah ditemui oleh enumerator kajian. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan wanita lebih ramai terlibat dalam HBB berbanding lelaki dan lebih 90% responden menyatakan tujuan dan pendorong mereka terlibat dalam kajian ini disebabkan untuk mendapatkan punca pendapatan.Dapatan kajian, dijangka dapat membantu penyelidik lain untuk memperbanyakkan kajian mengenai HBB. Selain itu, kajian ini diharap dapat menyedarkan pihak kerajaan supaya diadakan bantuan-bantuan sewajarnya kepada golongan usahawan ini bagi membantu mereka mengembangkan lagi perniagaan masing-masing di masa hadapan

Condition of health, safety and environment at port

Ports are often challenging places to work. We may be dealing with a whole range of cargoes and working alongside a wide variety of people, including some who don’t speak English.Work at ports takes place throughout the day and night and in all types of weather. There are often pressures to load or unload a ship’s cargo quickly to catch a tide or to free up a wharf. Visiting drivers want to pick up or drop off their cargo as quickly as possible and get back on the road.This study was conducted to investigate the condition of health and security at ports around the waters of Malaysia.Port level health and security is important to avoid accidents in the workplace.The lack of exposure to this level of security will cause a serious accident in the port. These include a risk assessment of their activities. This should identify the measures they need to have in place to comply with their duties under health and safety law and reduce risks. Each port needs to develop working practices that will safeguard the safety and health of port workers in the light of its own specific circumstances

Implementation of project based learning for civil engineering students at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia

Implementation of Project Based Learning (PtBL) in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) as part of Outcome Based Education (OBE) framework have faced various challenges (i.e revamp on the undergraduate co-curricullum, required high commitments from academicians & faculty and facilities to cater PtBL activities). This paper discusses the effectiveness of PtBL teaching method in an effort to develop the students’ soft skills in tandem with the technical or professional competencies; and problems, challenges and potential improvement in the course. The Survey Camp course which is offered at year one of a four years civil engineering degree programme in the Faculty of Civil Engineering (FKA), UTM was chosen for this study. It is a ten days fieldwork in which the students will carry out an engineering survey project from field to finish in groups of five to six students supervised by the academic staff. Assessment of the technical aspects was based on the students ability to meet the minimum engineering surveying’s standard whereas the assesment of soft skills was conducted during various sessions of the survey projects. Survey questionaires were given at the beginning and the end of the course as part of evaluation of the course effectiveness. The research has found that the technical aspects were achievable though with lesser degree for the engineering design. However, on the soft skills, students demonstrated an overall improvement of competency but it was difficult to determine the levels for the average students while the best and poor performers were easily observed

Predictors of personal reflection among managers who climb mountain

The area of this study is incidental learning among managers through mountaineering activities. The objective of this study was to determine the influence of perception of risk towards mountaineering and thrill and adventure seeking personality trait on their personal reflection. Respondents of this study consisted of 58 managers who participated in Mount Tahan Expedition, the highest peak in Peninsular Malaysia.This study used three well-established instruments to measure the variables.After going through the steps to ensure the validity of the instruments, it had also been tested for reliability.Then, linear regression test was used to determine the influence of independent variables on the dependent variable.This study revealed that both independent variables explained 11.9 percent variation in personal reflection.This finding is significance as shown by F-value of 3.712 (0=0.031).A further look at the t-values revealed that both perception of risk and thrill and adventure seeking personality trait contributed significantly to the change in personal reflection.As a conclusion, this study had achieved its objective by showing that personal reflection among managers can be enhanced by increasing their level of risk perception and by selecting managers with thrill and adventure seeking personality trait as participants of the expedition
