Wintering Birds in Northern Saudi Arabia: February 2009
The northern plains of Saudi Arabia are an area of approximately 231,000 km2, or roughly equivalent to the size of the whole of the United Kingdom. During previous ABBA Surveys in this area in late winter and spring significant numbers of wintering species such as Dotterel Charadrius morinellus, sandgrouse Pterocles sps and eagles and vultures have been recorded, as well as the threatened Sociable Plover Vanellus gregarius. The main objective of ABBA Survey 40 (30 January - 28 February 2009) was to assess wintering populations of these birds in northern Arabia through sampling methods. In all 21 timed walked censuses in the early morning and 25 driven transect counts (over a total distance of 1511 km) were carried out. Unfortunately most of the region had suffered a severe drought over an extended period, perhaps the previous ten years or longer, and in most of the survey area there had been no rain at all during the winter/spring period of 2008/2009. This lack of rain had resulted in a complete lack of green vegetation in most of the western part of the area studied. Evaluation of Trunk Muscle Endurance in Chronic Ankle Instability
Background: Testing the association between trunk muscle endurance and chronic ankle instability (CAI) is very important to recognize risk factors related to CAI. This facilitates prevention of injury and management of the associated musculoskeletal deficits of CAI. Objective: to assess endurance of trunk muscles in females with CAI. Methods: This study consisted of 62 females, allocated into two equal groups of 31; the experimental group (A) included females with CAI and the healthy control (Group B) included healthy females. McGill core endurance tests (prone-bridge, right side-bridge, left side-bridge, trunk flexion and horizontal back extension) were administered to assess trunk muscle endurance. Results: Statistical analysis revealed no significant differences in trunk muscle endurance between the two tested groups (p > 0.05). Conclusions: Although, the results indicated higher values of trunk endurance in the CAI group compared with their healthy controls, no statistically significant differences were observed between the two groups. Hospital pharmacy practice in Saudi Arabia: Prescribing and transcribing in the Riyadh region
AbstractPurposeThe purpose of this survey is to outline pharmacy services in hospitals on a regional level in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.MethodsA modified-American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) survey questionnaire as pertinent to Saudi Arabia was used to conduct a national survey. After discussing with the pharmacy directors of 48 hospitals in the Riyadh region over the phone on the survey’s purpose, the questionnaires were personally delivered and collected upon completion. The hospital lists were drawn from the Ministry of Health hospital database.ResultsTwenty-nine hospitals participated in the survey giving a response rate of 60.4%. Approximately 60% of the hospitals which participated in the survey required prior approval for the use of non-formulary medications. About 83.3% of hospitals reviewed compliance with clinical practice guidelines and 72.7% hospitals reported that pharmacists are also actively involved in these activities. Pharmacists in more than 95% of hospitals provided consultations on drug information. A staff pharmacist routinely answering questions was the most frequently cited (74.1%) method by which objective drug information was provided to prescribers. Electronic drug information resources were available in 77.7% of hospitals, although internet use is not widely available to hospital pharmacists, with only 58.6% of hospitals providing pharmacist access to the internet. About, 34.5% of hospitals had computerized prescriber order entry (CPOE) systems with clinical decision-support systems (CDSSs) and 51.9% of the hospitals had electronic medical record (EMR) system.ConclusionHospital pharmacists are increasingly using electronic technologies to improve prescribing and transcribing of medications in Saudi Arabia
Tapping uncultured microorganisms through metagenomics for drug discovery
Natural products have been an important historical source of therapeutic agents. Microorganisms are major source of bioactive natural products, and several microbial products including antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumour, immunosuppressants and others are currently used as therapeutic agents for human and domestic animals. Most of these products were obtained from cultured environmental microorganisms. However, it is widely accepted that a very large majority of the microorganisms present in natural environments are not readily cultured under laboratory conditions, and therefore are not accessible for drug discovery. Metagenomics is a recent culture-independent approach that has been developed to access the collective genomes of natural bacterial populations. It enables discovery of the diverse biosynthetic pathways encoded by diverse microbial assemblages that are known to be present in the environment but not-yet cultured. Recently, several new bioactive molecules and proteins have been discovered using a metagenomic approach. This review highlights the recent methodologies, limitations, and applications of metagenomics for the discovery of new drugs. Moreover, it shows how a multidisciplinary approach combining metagenomics with other technologies can expedite and revolutionize drug discovery from diverse environmental microorganisms.Key words: Microbial diversity, metagenomics, natural products, drug discovery, microbial ecology
Early Diagnosis of Brain Tumour MRI Images Using Hybrid Techniques between Deep and Machine Learning.
Cancer is considered one of the most aggressive and destructive diseases that shortens the average lives of patients. Misdiagnosed brain tumours lead to false medical intervention, which reduces patients' chance of survival. Accurate early medical diagnoses of brain tumour are an essential point for starting treatment plans that improve the survival of patients with brain tumours. Computer-aided diagnostic systems have provided consecutive successes for helping medical doctors make accurate diagnoses and have conducted positive strides in the field of deep and machine learning. Deep convolutional layers extract strong distinguishing features from the regions of interest compared with those extracted using traditional methods. In this study, different experiments are performed for brain tumour diagnosis by combining deep learning and traditional machine learning techniques. AlexNet and ResNet-18 are used with the support vector machine (SVM) algorithm for brain tumour classification and diagnosis. Brain tumour magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images are enhanced using the average filter technique. Then, deep learning techniques are applied to extract robust and important deep features via deep convolutional layers. The process of combining deep and machine learning techniques starts, where features are extracted using deep learning techniques, namely, AlexNet and ResNet-18. These features are then classified using SoftMax and SVM. The MRI dataset contains 3,060 images divided into four classes, which are three tumours and one normal. All systems have achieved superior results. Specifically, the AlexNet+SVM hybrid technique exhibits the best performance, with 95.10% accuracy, 95.25% sensitivity, and 98.50% specificity
An Overview New Advances and Responsibilities in Dental Public Health, Role of Nursing and Radiology Department
Professionals in the dental field believed that the promotion of oral health was an essential component of their responsibility as professionals. A patient\u27s participation in the decision-making process and educational activities, as well as the practice and evaluation of skill development, was one of their goals. In spite of the fact that the dental professionals believed that they participated in health promotion activities, they failed to make a clear distinction between disease prevention and oral health promotion. As a result of the fact that radiologists are frequently confronted with dental imaging, whether it be in relation to a specific question, such as a trauma patient, or in relation to incidental findings throughout head and neck imaging, it is more than worthwhile for them to receive additional training in this field in order to facilitate early and adequate dental treatment

Cyber Security against Intrusion Detection Using Ensemble-Based Approaches
The attacks of cyber are rapidly increasing due to advanced techniques applied by hackers. Furthermore, cyber security is demanding day by day, as cybercriminals are performing cyberattacks in this digital world. So, designing privacy and security measurements for IoT-based systems is necessary for secure network. Although various techniques of machine learning are applied to achieve the goal of cyber security, but still a lot of work is needed against intrusion detection. Recently, the concept of hybrid learning gives more attention to information security specialists for further improvement against cyber threats. In the proposed framework, a hybrid method of swarm intelligence and evolutionary for feature selection, namely, PSO-GA (PSO-based GA) is applied on dataset named CICIDS-2017 before training the model. The model is evaluated using ELM-BA based on bootstrap resampling to increase the reliability of ELM. This work achieved highest accuracy of 100% on PortScan, Sql injection, and brute force attack, which shows that the proposed model can be employed effectively in cybersecurity applications
Clinical Laboratory with the Cooperation of Pharmacist and Nurses in Delivering Propar Antimicrobial Drugs
One of the most significant factors that is regarded to be contributing to the rise of antimicrobial resistance is the usage of antimicrobials without proper consideration. Pharmacists, nurses, and clinical microbiologists are in a strategic position to encourage the sensible use of antimicrobial medications. Community pharmacies are the primary source of access to antimicrobials. Because of this, it is essential to be aware of the quality of the dispensing service. According to the findings of the evaluation, the quality of antimicrobial dispensing is unsatisfactory, which calls for enhancements in practice as well as diversified ways to encourage the professionals involved in the process to continue their education. In addition, it is necessary to perform awareness initiatives for the general community in order to encourage the responsible utilization of antimicrobials and to decrease the level of microbial resistance
