Hierarchical Design Based Intrusion Detection System For Wireless Ad hoc Network

In recent years, wireless ad hoc sensor network becomes popular both in civil and military jobs. However, security is one of the significant challenges for sensor network because of their deployment in open and unprotected environment. As cryptographic mechanism is not enough to protect sensor network from external attacks, intrusion detection system needs to be introduced. Though intrusion prevention mechanism is one of the major and efficient methods against attacks, but there might be some attacks for which prevention method is not known. Besides preventing the system from some known attacks, intrusion detection system gather necessary information related to attack technique and help in the development of intrusion prevention system. In addition to reviewing the present attacks available in wireless sensor network this paper examines the current efforts to intrusion detection system against wireless sensor network. In this paper we propose a hierarchical architectural design based intrusion detection system that fits the current demands and restrictions of wireless ad hoc sensor network. In this proposed intrusion detection system architecture we followed clustering mechanism to build a four level hierarchical network which enhances network scalability to large geographical area and use both anomaly and misuse detection techniques for intrusion detection. We introduce policy based detection mechanism as well as intrusion response together with GSM cell concept for intrusion detection architecture.Comment: 16 pages, International Journal of Network Security & Its Applications (IJNSA), Vol.2, No.3, July 2010. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1111.1933 by other author

Development of a Device for Remote Monitoring of Heart Rate and Body Temperature

We present a new integrated, portable device to provide a convenient solution for remote monitoring heart rate at the fingertip and body temperature using Ethernet technology and widely spreading internet. Now a days, heart related disease is rising. Most of the times in these cases, patients may not realize their actual conditions and even it is a common fact that there are no doctors by their side, especially in rural areas, but now a days most of the diseases are curable if detected in time. We have tried to make a system which may give information about one's physical condition and help him or her to detect these deadly but curable diseases. The system gives information of heart rate and body temperature simultaneously acquired on the portable side in real time and transmits results to web. In this system, the condition of heart and body temperature can be monitored from remote places. Eventually, this device provides a low cost, easily accessible human health monitor solution bridging the gaps between patients and doctors

E-Entrepreneurship for E-Startups: Potentials, Common Challenges and Way Forward

    Get PDF
In today’s economic world, the advancement in technology has opened up new forms of economic activities, particularly business. Whilst entrepreneurship is a major factor in business, e-entrepreneurship has become a buzzword facilitated by the rapid advancement of internet and developments in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). E-entrepreneurship, in the name of transforming business from the local marketplace to the global one, has revolutionized the entire business processes. This set of new business mechanism has created new opportunities for the startups, which in this regard is termed as e-startups. The purpose of this paper, therefore, is to develop a comprehensive understanding of the concept of eentrepreneurship by addressing related potentials and challenges. Extant literature has been reviewed to this end. The analysis indicated that flexibility of and accessibility to technology and products, less capital and risk in comparison to physical businesses are the major advantages that an e-entrepreneur might enjoy while commencing an e-startup. On the other hand, lack of institutional support, digital security threat, tough competition with established brands, less innovation and lack of academic and practical exposure in terms of business and marketing are some barriers that challenge the operation of e-startups. The conclusion of the paper draws on some recommendations accordingly. &nbsp

Off-Line Feed Rate Scheduling Based on a Mechanistic Cutting Force on Discrete Segments during End Milling

    Get PDF
This paper describes the development of an off-line feed rate scheduling technique based on a mechanistic cutting force model. The proposed technique was developed for an end milling operation. The surface area of the workpiece was divided into a number of segments, and the resultant cutting force at each discrete segment was determined using One Path Analysis software. The calculated resultant cutting force was applied to the feed rate scheduling. Experimental results clearly showed that the implementation of feed rate scheduling reduces machining time considerably and that as the number of segments increases, the effectiveness of the feed rate scheduling increases

Failure Mechanisms of Nanoparticle Reinforced Metal Matrix Composite

    Get PDF
The quest for the advanced functional material of superior functionality for advanced structure is being driven in various fronts of engineering materials. One of such front is metal matrix composite (MMC) which has already been proven as one of the most productive field in that respect. With the advance of technology, now it is possible to reinforce the MMCs with nano-sized particles compared to conventional micron-sized ones. However, the addition of nanoparticle in the MMC to improve its mechanical properties is not unconditional. To achieve positive gain by adding nanoparticles in the MMCs, all the influencing factors should be taken into consideration. The present paper reviews the failure mechanisms of nanoparticles reinforced MMCs in light of its strengthening mechanisms

Decoding of Human Movements Based on Deep Brain Local Field Potentials Using Ensemble Neural Networks

    Get PDF
Decoding neural activities related to voluntary and involuntary movements is fundamental to understanding human brain motor circuits and neuromotor disorders and can lead to the development of neuromotor prosthetic devices for neurorehabilitation. This study explores using recorded deep brain local field potentials (LFPs) for robust movement decoding of Parkinson’s disease (PD) and Dystonia patients. The LFP data from voluntary movement activities such as left and right hand index finger clicking were recorded from patients who underwent surgeries for implantation of deep brain stimulation electrodes. Movement-related LFP signal features were extracted by computing instantaneous power related to motor response in different neural frequency bands. An innovative neural network ensemble classifier has been proposed and developed for accurate prediction of finger movement and its forthcoming laterality. The ensemble classifier contains three base neural network classifiers, namely, feedforward, radial basis, and probabilistic neural networks. The majority voting rule is used to fuse the decisions of the three base classifiers to generate the final decision of the ensemble classifier. The overall decoding performance reaches a level of agreement (kappa value) at about 0.729±0.16 for decoding movement from the resting state and about 0.671±0.14 for decoding left and right visually cued movements
