Quinones have widespread applications in view of their interesting chemical and photophysical features. On the other hand, benzocyclobutenes (BCBs) are generally masked reactive dienes suitable for the [4+2] cycloaddition reactions. Here, benzocyclobutenes and benzodicyclobutenes (BDCBs) were prepared and further reacted with benzoquinone and naphthoquinone in order to obtain some new polycyclic quinones with highly extended π systems, namely, 6-bromo-5,8-dimethoxyanthracene-1,4-dione, 2,9-dibromo-1,4,8,11-tetramethoxypentacene-6,13-dione, 9-bromo-7,10-dimethoxytetracene-5,12-dione, 3,10-dimethoxycyclobuta[b]anthracene-1,5,8(2H)-trione, 6,10,17,21-tetramethoxynonacene-1,4,8,12,15,19-hexaone, and 3,12-dimethoxycyclobuta[b]tetracene-1,5,10(2H)-trione. In addition to their spectroscopic characterization the new compounds are investigated by UV and fluorescence spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and DFT calculations

A facile synthesis of 3-amino-2,5-dihydropyridazines and 4-deazatoxoflavin analogues via [3+3] atom combination

Michael addition reactions of arylhydrazone derivatives with different functionalized α-cyanoacrylamides were conducted and yielded new pyridazine-4-carboxamide compounds. A further reaction with acetic anhydride was investigated resulting in the formation of a 4-deazatoxoflavin analogue. A one step synthesis of 4-deazatoxoflavin was also carried out by reacting azaenamine with N-carbamoyl-2-cyano-3-phenylacrylamide to give deazatoxoflavin. Unambiguous structural elucidation was done using 2D-HMBC spectroscopy.

Posterior Sinuplasty: A New Strategy for Managing Hydrocolpos in Cloaca—Case Series

We present a simple surgical technique aiming to improve urine outflow through the common urogenital sinus in cloaca and facilitate drainage of existing hydrocolpos. The study included three cases of cloaca with associated hydrocolpos that were operated during the period 2022 through 2023. The patient is placed in the prone position for a standard posterior sagittal anorectoplasty. The distal rectal fistula is severed flush with the vagina/sinus leaving an open defect in the posterior wall of the vagina/sinus. The defect is then widened distally via a vertical incision (∼1 cm) through the posterior wall of the common urogenital sinus toward but not reaching the perineum. This vertical defect is then closed horizontally displacing the posterior vaginal wall downwards toward the perineum (posterior sinuplasty). The postoperative recovery was uneventful in the three cases. Adequate drainage of hydrocolpos was confirmed by imaging at follow-up, as well as improvement of upper urinary tract dilatation. In selected cases of cloaca, posterior sinuplasty is a simple procedure that can be applied during anorectoplasty to provide effective drainage of associated hydrocolpos
