In solid waste management, landfilling is the lowest ranking of waste management, but it is still widely practiced because it is convenient and consumer friendly. Unfortunately, many landfill sites have closed and this is a main issue in solid waste management. The purpose of this study is to suggest suitable and potential sites for landfill in Johor Bahru area through mapping technique and database system by using parameters that had been identified. Landfill site selection is a complex task because it needs to consider many criteria including economic, social, geological and environmental criteria. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is a method for analysis and supports decision where multiple and competing objectives are involved and multi alternatives are available. AHP is grouped in Multi Criteria Decision Analysis used to analyze landfill site suitability method. An extensive literature study on previous landfill site selection was conducted. Fifteen parameters were identified to use in AHP process. In this method, the process is divided into hierarchy before pair wise comparison was done and the result is prioritizing according to their weightage. The process is continued with weightage evaluation and its consistency. Landfill site selection process involved many spatial data and strenuous in handling it. Thus, Geographic Information System (GIS) can give significant help because it can potentially handle large volume of data that need to be evaluated and processed. The method used in GIS is digitizing, buffering and overlays. As a result in AHP, the most important criterion is river weighted 0.149 or 14.9% of all criteria and the least important criteria are distance to main road weighted 0.028 or 2.8% of other criteria. In GIS method, there are six parameters selected which are main road, plantation, residential area, swamp, grassland and river coverages. The findings identified two potential sites for landfill area because it satisfied all given requirements. As a conclusion, integration of GIS and AHP is suitable to be used in landfill site selection process

Seismic is an energy in the form of wave that will cause ground shaking and resulting in earthquake. Earthquake is a natural disaster that can bring damage to property, environment, and life. The structure of the building will determine the level of resistance when the earthquake occurs. Rapid Visual Screening is conducted to assess the durability and risk of building upon the earthquake events. There are some challenges faced during data collection including the topography of the study area, cooperation of the residents, time constraint and ground data limitation. This paper aim to describe the challenges encounter during data collection. Limitation and recommendation for future research also discussed in this paper. Data collection is a very crucial stage as it will determine the accuracy of the results and affect the findings of the research. From this data collection, it will help stakeholders, town planner and town authorities to plan the town and take precautionary measures against high-risk buildings in case of earthquake

Structural damage usually happens during earthquake events. This had caused damage of properties and even worse, loss of lives. Usually, the greatest losses were not caused by the quake specifically, but rather because of the fall of the structures. The vulnerability is a degree which buildings are exposed to harmful and destruction and in this case, it’s to earthquake incident. The fast development in urbanization prompt higher hazard from earthquake occurrences; including in the area with intermediate earthquake activities city like this city. This study addresses the expeditious assessment of a great number of buildings in Ranau Township involving measures to identify hazards, evaluate building stocks and calculate vulnerability using a scoring method, FEMA 154 form. The selected area was selected based on building data from the local municipality. Two types of buildings were assessed; commercial buildings and residential buildings. The basic structural score was determined based on building types. Modifier score is a major factor that gives impacts to structural performance during earthquake. These two types of scores will determine the final score of the building and its vulnerability. The outcome of the study reveals a different vulnerability level where early precaution and modification are needed because of the high vulnerability risk. This method can be applied for further analysis in other seismic-prone areas

Landfill site selection is a complex task that needs to be done by decision maker. There are many criteria that need to be considered before choosing the landfill. This includes economic, social, geological and environmental criteria. AHP is a technique for analyzing and supporting decisions in which multiple and competing objectives are involved and multiple alternatives are available. By using Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP), the process of landfill site selection had become easier. In this method, the problem need to be divided into hierarchy before the pair wise comparison and made it prioritize accordingly. Then, the judgment will be synthesized and finally, the evaluation and consistency of judgment were checked. As a result, lists of criterion were arranged according to its priority, which is more dominant to economic aspect and less dominant to social aspect. This is on account of social matters can be solved alternatively by different systems. This landfill site selection process involved lots of spatial data and strenuous in handling it. Thus, by using GIS, it can give significant helps to solve this issue because of its potential in handling large volume of spatial data that needs to be evaluates and processed. This particular research used Johor Bahru, Johor for case study area
