This is the record of a Special Lecture by Mr. Noel McIntosh held on October 8th in 1998. Mr. McIntosh is the president of TYPEQUICK PTY limited, located in Australia. The software product called \u27Type Quick\u27 is an excellent application software used world-wide, and which is also used at the Faculty of Informatics since 1994. Although every student here is much familiar with this software, few know its support company and their policy. Mr. McIntosh and his wife drove all over Japan from Tokyo through Osaka via the Tohoku region, Sapporo, Nagano and Kyoto in his own classic car

Diminution of the activity of B atoms by H-induced defects in H

Diborane and hydrogen ions were co-implanted into silicon using an implanter without an ion analyzer. The samples were annealed at 1000 °C for 30 min in argon atmosphere. Regions containing carriers became narrower with an increasing fraction of H2 gas in the source mixed gas: for example, carriers were limited only in a narrow region from the surface to 0.3  μ0.3\;\mum on silicon implanted with a mixed gas of 57% H2–43% B2H6. The width of the region containing carriers was approximately double that (0.6  μ\sim 0.6\;\mum) on B-implanted silicon. On the other hand, the width of the region containing B atoms on the H2 and B2H6 co-implanted silicon were slightly narrower than that on B-implanted silicon. The region containing inactivated B atoms had a large number of defects and small crystallites

A case of synchronous double cancers consisting of maxillary gingival carcinoma and intraductal papillary mucinous carcinoma, invasive: case report

Abstract Background The development of synchronous multiple primary cancers is one of the major causes of death in patients with head and neck cancer. Herein, we report a case of synchronous intraductal papillary mucinous carcinoma (IPMC), invasive in a patient with maxillary gingival carcinoma. Case presentation A 73-year-old female visited our hospital complaining of a mass on the left side of the maxillary gingiva. Intraorally, an exophytic tumor, 50 × 25 mm in size, was found on the gingiva of the left maxillary posterior, and a diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma was revealed by cytology. Emission tomography/ computed tomography with 18 Fluorodeoxyglucose-Positron (18FDG- PET/ CT) showed increased accumulation in the left maxillary gingiva, the left side of cervical lymph nodes, and the main pancreatic duct. The pancreatic ductal tumor was performed the biopsy at esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) and resulted in a pathological diagnosis of IPMC, invasive. The patient was diagnosed as synchronous double primary cancers consisting of maxillary gingival carcinoma cT4aN2bM0 and IPMC, invasive cT3N0M0. She refused radical treatment, and died 11 months later. Conclusion 18FDG- PET/ CT, EGD and multidisciplinary approach is required for the detection and determining the treatment strategy of synchronous double primary cancers

All rights reserved. The CANGAROO-III project, which consists of an array of four 10-m atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes for gamma-ray astrophysics, started in 1999 in Woomera, South Australia. The first 10-m telescope has been in operation since 2000, and stereoscopic observations with the first and second telescopes started in 2002. The full array will be operational in 2003. Here we report on the status of the CANGAROO-III project including the results of observations with the first telescope. © 2003 Elsevier B.V.
