Possible Molecular Spiral Arms in the Protoplanetary Disk of AB Aur
The circumstellar dust disk of the Herbig Ae star AB Aur has been found to
exhibit complex spiral-like structures in the near-IR image obtained with the
Subaru Telescope. We present maps of the disk in both 12CO (3-2) and dust
continuum at 345 GHz with the SMA at an angular resolution of 1.0"x0.7" (144AU
x 100AU). The continuum emission traces a dust disk with a central depression
and a maximum overall dimension of 450AU (FWHM). This dust disk exhibits
several distinct peaks that appear to coincide with bright features in the
near-IR image, in particular the brightest inner spiral arm. The CO emission
traces a rotating gas disk of size 530AU x 330AU with a deprojected maximum
velocity of 2.8km/s at 450AU. In contrast to the dust disk, the gas disk
exhibits an intensity peak at the stellar position. Furthermore, the CO
emission in several velocity channels traces the innermost spiral arm seen in
the near-IR. We compare the observed spatial-kinematic structure of the CO
emission to a simple model of a disk in Keplerian rotation, and find that only
the emission tracing the main spiral arm clearly lies outside the confines of
our model. This emission has a net outward radial motion compared with the
radial velocity predicted by the model at the location of the main spiral arms.
The disk of AB Aur is therefore quite different from the Keplerian disks seen
around many Herbig Ae stars. The spiral-like structures of the disk with
non-Keplerian motions we revealed in 12CO (3-2), together with the central
depression of the dust disk, may be explained to be driven by the possible

Repair of double-chambered right ventricle using right ventricular outflow chamber ventriculotomy via left intercostal thoracotomy under beating heart in two dogs
Double-chambered right ventricle was diagnosed in two dogs, one of them a pup and the other full grown. Both dogs underwent surgery using the novel approach of right ventricular outflow chamber ventriculotomy via left intercostal thoracotomy with moderate hypothermia and moderate pump flow cardiopulmonary bypass under beating heart. No major complication occurred during and after the operation. On continuous wave Doppler echocardiography, the pressure gradient across the stenosis in the right ventricle decreased from 130 mmHg pre-operatively to 40 mmHg post-operatively at 1 year 5 months in the adult dog, and from 209 mmHg pre-operatively to 47 mmHg post-operatively at 1 year in the pup. Both dogs are active without clinical signs
Light-Intercepting Characteristics and Growth of Tomatoes Cultivated in a Greenhouse Using a Movable Bench System
The objective of this study was to investigate the growth and light-intercepting characteristics of tomatoes when movable benches are used in their cultivation. We cultivated tomatoes in a greenhouse (168 m2) during summer (9 July–9 September 2018) under different furrow distances (F1.0 = 1.0 m and F1.6 = 1.6 m) and movable benches (M indicates that the furrow distance = 0.4–0.8 m). Compared to the other treatments, when the movable bench was used to the change furrow distance depending on the plant growth stage (M treatment), the percentage of canopy light interception increased to ~90% at the early stage of plant growth (~20 days after transplanting). The percentage of canopy light interception for different treatments increased in the order of M > F1.0 > F1.6, and it increased towards the end of cultivation. In addition, the yield per unit area exhibited the same trend. Therefore, the solar radiation inside a greenhouse can be efficiently intercepted by plants when movable benches are used. This indicated that it was possible to increase plant yield per unit area using movable benches in plant cultivation

Prevalence of tick-borne Rickettsia and Ehrlichia in Ixodes persulcatus and Ixodes ovatus in Tokachi District, Eastern Hokkaido, Japan
application/pdfDNA from 111 ticks collected by flagging in Tokachi district, Eastern Hokkaido, Japan were examined for infection with Rickettsia and Ehrlichia, by PCR and sequencing methodology. For Rickettsia, analysis of the partial sequence of the citrate synthase gene was successfully performed on 11 DNA samples from I. persulcatus, and 7 of them showed 99.8% identical with Rickettsia helvetica while the other 4 showed 99.8% identical with 'Candidatus Rickettsia tarasevichiae'. For Ehrlichia, a partial sequence of the 16S rRNA gene detected from I. persulcatus was 100% identical with that from Ehrlichia muris, and another DNA sample from I. ovatus showed 99.8% identical with Ehrlichia species detected from I. ovatus. The results suggest that the pathogens detected here might be distributed in this area
Determination of L-tryptophan and L-kynurenine in Human Serum by using LC-MS after Derivatization with (R)-DBD-PyNCS
Concentrations of L-tryptophan (L-Trp) and its metabolite, L-kynurenine (L-KYN), in sera of 19 normal subjects (age: 23.6 ± 3.5 y, male: 8, female: 11) were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography with mass-spectrometric detection, following their derivatization with ( R)-(–)-4-(N, N -dimethylaminosulfonyl)-7-(3-isothiocyanatopyrrolidin-1-yl)-2,1,3-benzoxadiazole (DBD-PyNCS). A significant positive correlation between L-Trp and L-KYN concentrations was observed (r = 0.532, P < 0.05). Serum L-Trp concentration in male subjects (95.65 ± 4.27 μM) was significantly higher than that in female subjects (79.20 ± 3.34 μM; P < 0.05), while no significant differences in L-KYN concentration or the L-KYN:L-Trp ratio were observed between male and female subjects
