Abstract. We consider time-changed Brownian motions on random Koch (pre-fractal and fractal) domains where the time change is given by the inverse to a subordinator. In particular, we study the fractional Cauchy problem with Robin condition on the pre-fractal boundary obtaining asymptotic results for the corresponding fractional diffusions with Robin, Neumann and Dirichlet boundary conditions on the fractal domain

From Sturm-Liouville problems to fractional and anomalous diffusions

    Get PDF
Some fractional and anomalous diffusions are driven by equations involving fractional derivatives in both time and space. Such diffusions are processes with randomly varying times. In representing the solutions to those diffusions, the explicit laws of certain stable processes turn out to be fundamental. This paper directs one's efforts towards the explicit representation of solutions to fractional and anomalous diffusions related to Sturm-Liouville problems of fractional order associated to fractional power function spaces. Furthermore, we study a new version of the Bochner's subordination rule and we establish some connections between subordination and space-fractional operatorComment: Accepted by Stochastic Processess and Their Application

On the fractional counterpart of the higher-order equations

In this work we study the solutions to some fractional higher-order equations. Special cases in which time-fractional derivatives take integer values are also examined and the explicit solutions are presented. Such solutions can be expressed by means of the transition laws of stable subordinators and their inverse processes. In particular we establish connections between fractional and higher-order equations

Vibrations and fractional vibrations of rods, plates and Fresnel pseudo-processes

Different initial and boundary value problems for the equation of vibrations of rods (also called Fresnel equation) are solved by exploiting the connection with Brownian motion and the heat equation. The analysis of the fractional version (of order Μ\nu) of the Fresnel equation is also performed and, in detail, some specific cases, like Μ=1/2\nu=1/2, 1/3, 2/3, are analyzed. By means of the fundamental solution of the Fresnel equation, a pseudo-process F(t)F(t), t>0t>0 with real sign-varying density is constructed and some of its properties examined. The equation of vibrations of plates is considered and the case of circular vibrating disks CRC_R is investigated by applying the methods of planar orthogonally reflecting Brownian motion within CRC_R. The composition of F with reflecting Brownian motion BB yields the law of biquadratic heat equation while the composition of FF with the first passage time TtT_t of BB produces a genuine probability law strictly connected with the Cauchy process.Comment: 33 pages,8 figure

Composition of processes and related partial differential equations

In this paper different types of compositions involving independent fractional Brownian motions B^j_{H_j}(t), t>0, j=1,$ are examined. The partial differential equations governing the distributions of I_F(t)=B^1_{H_1}(|B^2_{H_2}(t)|), t>0 and J_F(t)=B^1_{H_1}(|B^2_{H_2}(t)|^{1/H_1}), t>0 are derived by different methods and compared with those existing in the literature and with those related to B^1(|B^2_{H_2}(t)|), t>0. The process of iterated Brownian motion I^n_F(t), t>0 is examined in detail and its moments are calculated. Furthermore for J^{n-1}_F(t)=B^1_{H}(|B^2_H(...|B^n_H(t)|^{1/H}...)|^{1/H}), t>0 the following factorization is proved J^{n-1}_F(t)=\prod_{j=1}^{n} B^j_{\frac{H}{n}}(t), t>0. A series of compositions involving Cauchy processes and fractional Brownian motions are also studied and the corresponding non-homogeneous wave equations are derived.Comment: 32 page

Delayed and rushed motions through time change

    No full text
We introduce a deïŹnition of delayed and rushed processes in terms of lifetimes of base processes and time-changed base processes. Then, we consider time changes given by subordinators and their inverse processes. Our analysis shows that, quite surprisingly, time-changing with inverse subordinators does not necessarily imply delay of the base process. Moreover, time-changing with subordinators does not necessarily imply rushed base process

    Approximation of Space-Time Fractional Equations

    No full text
The aim of this paper is to provide approximation results for space-time non-local equations with general non-local (and fractional) operators in space and time. We consider a general Markov process time changed with general subordinators or inverses to general subordinators. Our analysis is based on Bernstein symbols and Dirichlet forms, where the symbols characterize the time changes, and the Dirichlet forms characterize the Markov processes

Probabilistic representation formula for the solution of fractional high-order heat-type equations

    No full text
We propose a probabilistic construction for the solution of a general class of fractional high-order heat-type equations in the one-dimensional case, by using a sequence of random walks in the complex plane with a suitable scaling. A time change governed by a class of subordinated processes allows to handle the fractional part of the derivative in space. We first consider evolution equations with space fractional derivatives of any order, and later we show the extension to equations with time fractional derivative (in the sense of Caputo derivative) of order α∈ (0 , 1)

Solutions of Bernoulli Equations in the Fractional Setting

We present a general series representation formula for the local solution of the Bernoulli equation with Caputo fractional derivatives. We then focus on a generalization of the fractional logistic equation and present some related numerical simulations

On the time fractional heat equation with obstacle

    No full text
We study a Caputo time fractional degenerate diffusion equation which we prove to be equivalent to the fractional parabolic obstacle problem, showing that its solution evolves for any α∈(0,1) to the same stationary state, the solution of the classic elliptic obstacle problem. The only thing which changes with α is the convergence speed. We also study the problem from the numerical point of view, comparing some finite different approaches, and showing the results of some tests. These results extend what recently proved in [1] for the case α=1
