Scientific research publishing carries huge importance for the development of the society. Apart from the dissemination of knowledge, there are also motives for publication of scientific research results at the level of individual researchers: it might be a requirement for graduation or promotion, and there is also an individualā€™s wish to be recognized as a respectable researcher. Depending on how difficult it is for a paper to get accepted for publishing, publications can be ranged from the least difficult to the most difficult to get published in, in the following order: a book chapter, a conference, a non-indexed journal and an indexed journal. Journals are currently indexed in two databases: Scopus and Web of Science. Of the two, Web of ScienceĀ© has a long tradition and is formally accepted in a number of countries and institutions as an indicator of the quality of an indexed journal. Hence, publication in a journal that is indexed in Web of ScienceĀ© is an important venue for scientific researchers, although previously published papers indicate that there are substantial obstacles for researchers from developing countries. When considering writing for publication, four critical questions emerge: (1) How to pick a topic that is relevant for publication?, (2) How to select a journal for possible publication of research results?, (3) How to structure the paper in accordance with the IMRAD format?, and (4) How to efficiently write the paper?. The goal of the paper is to propose simple, yet highly applicable advice when answering these questions and thus pursuing the publication of a paper in a scientific journal providing a closer look to economics, business and management journals indexed in Web of ScienceĀ© that focus on Eastern European countries

DEVELOPING SYSTEM DYNAMICS MODELS WITH "STEP-BY-STEP" APPROACH

    Get PDF
System dynamics is a powerful tool that enhances learning about company, market and competitors; portrays the cognitive limitations on the information gathering and processing power of human mind; facilitates the practice of considering opinions; and supports building of ";What if"; scenarios. Although the literature on system dynamics modeling is very rich with applications in many fields, not many papers on developing system dynamics models were published so far. In this paper we portray current approaches to the development of system dynamics models. These are (1) model development based on influence diagram, (2) model development based on the identification of resources and their states, (3) usage of generic structures for specific domain field, and (4) component strategy for the formulation of system dynamics models. Validation is an important issue that none of these approaches tackles. We propose a ";step-by-step"; approach that integrates validation with developing process of system dynamics models. This approach will be demonstrated on the example of development of a simple inventory model

Changes in Industrial Concentration in the Croatian Economy (1995-2006)

The aim of this paper is to obtain a better understanding of differences and dynamics of concentration across various industries in the Croatian economy in the period 1995-2006 in order to be able to foresee future trends. Shifts in concentration vary across industries in the Croatian economy. Concentration declines in approximately two fifths of the Croatian economy whereas one fifth of the Croatian economy shows a growing trend in concentration. In the remaining industries no changes in concentration occurred. The causes of concentration are as follows: (1) decline in concentration due to inadequate adjustments of leading firms to transition, (2) decline in concentration due to deregulation, (3) increase in concentration in industries targeted by multinational companies, and (4) increase in concentration in industries in which no significant new firms emerged following the unsuccessful privatization of leading firms
