Introduction. Although the associations between orthodontic and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQOL) have been explored, little research has been done to address the influence of brackets type on perceived OHRQOL. The aim of this study was to assess whether the levels of OHRQOL in Chinese adolescence patients were influenced by the type of brackets. Materials and Methods. One hundred fifty Chinese orthodontic adolescence patients completed the 14-item Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14, Chinese version) at five distinct intervals: after insertion of the fixed appliance at 1 week (T1), 1 month (T2), 3 months (T3), and 6 months (T4); and after treatment (T5). Results. Patients with self-ligating brackets were associated with less pain and discomfort at any intervals compared with conventional brackets, but no significant difference of overall OHIP-14 scores could be found between two groups. Moreover, in both groups, overall scores at T1 and T2 were significantly higher than the scores at any other intervals in both groups. Conclusions. The type of orthodontic appliance did not affect oral health-related quality of life in Chinese adolescence patients

Difficult and labour-intensive transportation up and down the steps is a challenge in small spaces. This work focused on the smooth performance requirements about each joint structure of robot foot. We have made research on the hand and foot structure of the transport part, which simplifies its posture calculation in the designed bipedal transport robot model. Methods for determination of each joint angle of the hand and foot are presented, including the use of standard D-H method to establish a mathematical model and perform forward and inverse kinematic analysis to derive the angles of each joint, where the matrix was coded by Python software to ensure the accuracy of the calculated results. The joints angles are assigned by the Step function, and the motion of the bipedal robot in the case of single access is simulated by the inverse kinematic derivation formula. Simulation results show that the structure of the robot\u27s joints meets the requirement of maintaining the stability of the robot when going up and down the stairs

Celastrol alleviated acute kidney injury by inhibition of ferroptosis through Nrf2/GPX4 pathway

Ferroptosis is an important pathological process in acute kidney injury (AKI) which could lead to chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD). As an active ingredient of Chinese medicine Tripterygium wilfordii, celastrol has been reported to alleviate inflammation and preclinical studies have confirmed its anticancer effect. In the present study, we investigated the renal protective effects of celastrol against cisplatin induced AKI. Mice were administrated cisplatin by intraperitoneal injection and we found that celastrol reduced serum levels of BUN and creatinine, inhibited renal dysfunction, inflammation and oxidative stress. In addition, renal iron accumulation and ferroptosis were significantly reduced by celastrol treatment. Further mechanistic analyses suggested that Nrf2 is essential for celastrol upregulated GPX4 to alleviate ferroptosis and reduction of LDH release, intracellular iron accumulation and lipid peroxidation. These findings expand the potential uses of celastrol for treatment of various kinds of AKI associated with ferroptosis

Comparison between Tonifying Kidney Yang and Yin in Treating Segmental Bone Defects Based on the Induced Membrane Technique: An Experimental Study in a Rat Model

Tonifying kidney therapy consisting of tonifying kidney yang and yin is the basic principle of Chinese medicine in treating segmental bone defects (SBDs). Previous studies have demonstrated the presence of the differences between tonifying kidney yang and yin in bone metabolism of osteoporosis and distraction osteogenesis models. However, whether the difference between the two tonifying kidney methods in bone repair for the induced membrane (IM) technique occurs or what is the difference remain unclear. Angiogeneic-osteogenic coupling plays an important role in bone repair and the induced membrane couples angiogenesis with the later osteogenesis during the IM process. This study aimed at investigating the effects of tonifying kidney yang (total flavonoids of Rhizoma Drynariae, TFRD) and yin (plastrum testudinis extract, PTE) on angiogenesis and osteogenesis in the IM-treated SBDs. Rats of 6 mm tibia bone defect model treated with IM were divided into five groups: the control group, the model group, the tonifying kidney yang group (TFRD-treated group), the tonifying kidney yin group (PTE-treated group), and the western medicine group. At 4 weeks after insertion of the polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), three caudal vertebrae from the tail in each rat were implanted into the 6 mm defect gap. Radiographical, histological, immunohistochemical, and immunofluorescent analyses were performed to assess bone and vessel formation at 4 or 12 weeks after insertion of the PMMA, respectively. Our results revealed that TFRD and PTE were beneficial to both angiogenesis and osteogenesis. TFRD exerted a better effect on angiogenesis than PTE and achieved a better result in stage 1 rather than in stage 2 of IM, whereas PTE was superior to TFRD in osteogenesis and achieved a better result in stage 2 instead of stage 1. Collectively, these findings elucidated the beneficial effects of tonifying kidney yang and yin on angiogenesis and osteogenesis of SBD repair during the IM process, as well as the difference that tonifying kidney yang surpasses tonifying kidney yin in angiogenesis while tonifying kidney yin outperforms tonifying kidney yang in osteogenesis, which suggests that the combination between the application of tonifying kidney yang method in stage 1 of IM and tonifying kidney yin method in stage 2 may achieve better repair efficiency
