Some Characteristics of Interethnic Contacts of Women in a Post-War Divided City ā Kosovo Case
This paper is a result of perennial theoretical and methodological studies and empirical research of the impact of social changes on the daily life of women in a post-conflict social environment. Keeping in mind that this paper is part of a more extensive field research, it focuses on some characteristics of interethnic contacts, which at the same time, are interreligious contacts between Orthodox and Muslim women (Serbian, Albanian and Bosnian). Characteristics of interethnic contacts of women in a daily life contextual framework are described and explained within the Kosovar post-war divided city Mitrovica/Kosovska Mitrovica, with special emphasis on the grassroots womenās association called the āWomen Center.ā The first part of the field research was conducted in the summers of 2010 and 2011 and the second part in the summer of 2018, in order to compare the manifest forms of interethnic contacts of the women. The core component of the paper is the results and discussion segment, which, by stressing the voices of those interviewed, shows how post-conflict daily life has some positive moments of interethnic encounters, even with short-term effects
Pricing Financial Derivatives using Radial Basis Function generated Finite Differences with Polyharmonic Splines on Smoothly Varying Node Layouts
In this paper, we study the benefits of using polyharmonic splines and node
layouts with smoothly varying density for developing robust and efficient
radial basis function generated finite difference (RBF-FD) methods for pricing
of financial derivatives. We present a significantly improved RBF-FD scheme and
successfully apply it to two types of multidimensional partial differential
equations in finance: a two-asset European call basket option under the
Black--Scholes--Merton model, and a European call option under the Heston
model. We also show that the performance of the improved method is equally high
when it comes to pricing American options. By studying convergence,
computational performance, and conditioning of the discrete systems, we show
the superiority of the introduced approaches over previously used versions of
the RBF-FD method in financial applications
Towards the Hall viscosity of the Fermi-liquid-like phase at the filling factor of 1/2
We discuss the Berry curvature calculations of the Hall viscosity for the
unprojected to the lowest Landau level wave function of the Fermi-liquid-like
state. We conclude, within assumptions made, that in the linear response, with
small deformation of the system and in the thermodynamic limit, the Hall
viscosity takes the value characteristic for the Laughlin states. We present
arguments that the value is the same even for general deformations in the same
limit.Comment: 13 pages, 6 figure
Book Review: Gorana OgnjenoviÄ and Jasna JozeliÄ\u27s Education in Post-conflict Transition: The Politicization of Religion in School Textbooks
An edited volume entitled, Education in Post-conflict Transition: The Politicization of Religion in School Textbooks, was published by Palgrave Macmillan series in Religion, Politics and Policy and edited by two scholars, Gorana OgnjenoviÄ (University of Oslo) and Jasna JozeliÄ (Norwegian Centre for Human Rights, University of Oslo). This volume focuses on the politicization of religion and the development of religious education in public schools, and the degree of religious liberty and human rights in several, mainly former Yugoslav countries. Apart from an introduction, the volume has thirteen chapters and a conclusion. Chapter authors include scholars from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, and Slovenia . The book also covers case studies of religious education in these countries
\u27Converted Co-ethnics\u27: Romanian Migrants in the Northern Serbian Province of Vojvodina
In this paper, my case study highlights Romanian neo-Protestant migrants from Serbia who either returned to their āhome country,ā or work on different missionary activities among their co-ethnics after the fall of communism. To a large degree, members of the Romanian minority in Serbia belong to the Romanian Orthodox Church, which is the dominant confession, then a smaller number to the Romanian Greek-Catholic church and various neo-Protestant communities, such as the Nazarene, the Adventist, the Baptist, and the Pentecostal community. Starting from the hypothesis that the conversion of the Romanians in Serbia to neo-Protestantism is closely related to issues of migration, whether the conversion occurred while living abroad or they were, for religious reasons, forced to leave the country, the focus of this paper is transformation of social relations among converted Romanians and their co-ethnics. Based on the results from ethnographic research conducted in Serbia in 2014ā2015, I will focus on how migrants perceive themselves and their co-ethnic attitudes towards them. Becoming a part of transnational religious community and emphasizing supra-nationality, the Romanian neo-Protestants perceive themselves as a part of āworldwide brotherhood,ā adopting some new forms of collective identity while distancing themselves from the Romanian Orthodox tradition. Thus, religious otherness raises questions of the attitude of the Romanian local community towards the Romanian neo-Protestant migrants and their new religious, cultural, and social practices
