International conference on software engineering and knowledge engineering: Session chair
The Thirtieth International Conference on Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering (SEKE 2018) will be held at the Hotel Pullman, San Francisco Bay, USA, from July 1 to July 3, 2018. SEKE2018 will also be dedicated in memory of Professor Lofti Zadeh, a great scholar, pioneer and leader in fuzzy sets theory and soft computing.
The conference aims at bringing together experts in software engineering and knowledge engineering to discuss on relevant results in either software engineering or knowledge engineering or both. Special emphasis will be put on the transference of methods between both domains. The theme this year is soft computing in software engineering & knowledge engineering. Submission of papers and demos are both welcome
Thermal infrared spectroscopy of Europa and Callisto
The trailing hemispheres of Europa and Callisto were observed at 9ā13 Ī¼m, and a spectrum of Europa with better spectral resolution and a better signal-to-noise ratio than was previously possible has been derived. The ratio spectrum of the two satellites has a signal-to-noise ratio of approximately 30 for a spectral resolving power of approximately 50. The disk-integrated, effective color temperature ratio for the two satellites is consistent with broadband, thermal infrared photometry from previous ground-based studies and from the Galileo photopolarimeter radiometer. The ratio spectrum was combined with the average Voyager 1 spectrum of Callisto to obtain a 9ā13 Ī¼m spectrum of Europa with a signal-to-noise ratio that is a factor of 10 better than that in the average Voyager spectrum of Europa. After convolving the measured spectrum to the expected width of water ice emissivity features, ā¼1 Ī¼m, no spectral features that could be attributed to water ice on the surface of Europa are apparent at the 0.6ā0.7% level. The absence of spectral features attributable to water ice is consistent with the proposal that the equatorial region of Europa that was observed may be composed primarily of a heavily hydrated mineral. The absence of water ice features may also be the result of a large fractional abundance of fine particles, such as that found on the surface of the Moon

"Asiatick Fire & Figure," or, How Joseph Emin Made Mrs. Montagu an Avant-garde Critic in Her Empathy with the East
ABSTRACT Against a background of fears that Britain was in grave danger of repeating Roman decline into imperial decadence, indolence, and corruption, this essay attempts to explore the appeal of Joseph Emin for a whole swath of the haut ton. His desperate courage and profound patriotism provided an absolute contrast with the āvain, luxurious and selfish Effeminacyā that Dr. John Brown, in his Estimate of the Manners and Principles of the Times (1757), had diagnosed as the disease of Englandās aristocracy and landed gentry. To the romanticism of this idealistic āOrientalā was added the imprimatur of the Duke of Northumberland, qualifying the thirty-year-old Emin for admission into Elizabeth Montaguās menage of āloversā with whom she longed to take tea. More than this, Eminās company and travelerās tales ignited the Orientalist in the Bluestocking, encouraging an appetite for translations from Asiatic literatures and rendering her an early and appreciative reader of the Bhagavad GÄ«tÄ
