    miR-455 Inhibits the Viability and Invasion by Targeting RAB18 in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

    Background. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has been regarded as the fifth most common cancer worldwide with a low prognosis. miR-455 usually played the role of a tumor suppressor in multiple cancers. The aim of this study was to investigate the roles of miR-455 in HCC. Materials and Methods. Cell viability and invasion were measured by CCK8 and Transwell assays. Luciferase reporter assay was performed to verify that miR-455 directly binds to the 3′-noncoding region (UTR) of RAB18 mRNA in Huh7 cells. Results. The expression of miR-455 was lower in HCC tissues and cell lines than in nontumor tissues and normal cell line, and downregulation of miR-455 was connected with worse outcome of HCC patients. miR-455 suppressed cell proliferation in vitro and in vivo, and it inhibited the abilities of cell invasion and EMT in HCC. RAB18 was upregulated in HCC tissues and cell lines, and the expression of RAB18 was regulated by miR-455. RAB18 reversed partial roles of miR-455 on cell viability and invasion in HCC. Conclusion. miR-455 inhibited cell viability and invasion by directly targeting the 3′-UTR of RAB18 mRNA of hepatocellular carcinoma

    Hydrochemical Characteristics and Formation of the Madeng Hot Spring in Yunnan, China

    The Madeng hot spring emerges in the central river valley in the northeastern Lanping Basin in Jianchuan county of Yunnan Province in China. Quaternary sand and gravel occur in the valley which is underlain by the red beds consisting of sandstone and mudstone. The temperature of the hot spring is 42.1°C. The spring water has a pH value of 6.41, TDS of 3.98 g/L, F contents of 3.08 mg/L, and H2SiO3 of 35.6 mg/L. The hot water is of SO4•Cl-Na•Ca type. There is a slight hydrogen sulfide odor in the spring water. Stable hydrogen and oxygen isotopes indicate that the hot water is of meteoric origin. It is estimated that the elevation of the recharge area of the hot spring is approximately 3800 m, the age of the hot water is some 140 years, the temperature of the geothermal reservoir is 75°C–80°C, the mixture ratio of cold water is approximately 80%, and the circulation depth of the thermal groundwater is 1870 m. After receiving recharge from infiltration of precipitation in the mountainous recharge areas, the groundwater undergoes a deep circulation, obtains heat from the heat flow, flows upward along the fractured zone, and emerges as an upflow spring through the Quaternary sand and gravel in the central low-lying river valley

    Characteristics of New Onset Herpes Simplex Keratitis after Keratoplasty

    Purpose. To observe clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes of new onset herpes simplex keratitis (HSK) after keratoplasty. Methods. Among 1,443 patients (1,443 eyes) who underwent keratoplasty (excluding cases of primary HSK) in Shandong Eye Hospital, 17 patients suffered postoperative HSK. The clinical manifestations, treatment regimens, and prognoses of the patients were evaluated. Results. The incidence of new onset HSK after keratoplasty was 1.18%. Epithelial HSK occurred in 10 eyes, with dendritic epithelial infiltration in 6 eyes and map-like epithelial defects in 4 eyes. Nine eyes had lesions at the junction of the graft and recipient. Stromal necrotic and endothelial HSK occurred in 7 eyes, presenting map-shaped ulcers in the entire corneal graft and recipient (two eyes) or at the graft-recipient junction (five eyes). Confocal microscopy revealed infiltration of a large number of dendritic cells at the junction of the lesion and transparent cornea. All 10 eyes with epithelial lesions and two eyes suffering stromal lesions of ≤1/3 corneal thickness healed after systematic and local antiviral treatment. Best-corrected visual acuity and corneal graft transparency were restored. For stromal HSK with an ulcer of >1/3 corneal thickness, amniotic membrane transplantation was performed, and visual acuity and graft transparency decreased significantly. Conclusion. New onset HSK after keratoplasty primarily resulted in epithelial and stromal lesion, involving both the graft and recipient. Effective treatments included antiviral medications and amniotic membrane transplantation. Delayed treatment may lead to aggravated graft opacification

    Development and validation of the prediction model for mortality in patients with diabetic kidney disease in intensive care unit: a study based on medical information Mart for intensive care

    AbstractWe aimed to explore factors associated with mortality of diabetic kidney disease (DKD), and to establish a prediction model for predicting the mortality of DKD. This was a cohort study. In total, 1,357 DKD patients were identified from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV (MIMIC-IV) database, with 505 DKD patients being identified from the MIMIC-III as the testing set. The outcome of the study was 1-year mortality. COX proportional hazard models were applied to screen the predictive factors. The prediction model was conducted based on the predictive factors. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve with the area under the curve (AUC) was calculated to evaluate the performance of the prediction model. The median follow-up time was 365.00 (54.50,365.00) days, and 586 patients (43.18%) died within 1 year. The predictive factors for 1-year mortality in DKD included age, weight, sepsis, heart rate, temperature, Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI), Simplified Acute Physiology Score (SAPS) II, and Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA), lymphocytes, red cell distribution width (RDW), serum albumin, and metformin. The AUC of the prediction model for predicting 1-year mortality in the training set was 0.771 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.746-0.795] and the AUC of the prediction model in the testing set was 0.795 (95% CI: 0.756-0.834). This study establishes a prediction model for predicting mortality of DKD, providing a basis for clinical intervention and decision-making in time

    Basalt Fiber-Based Electrical Insulating Paper: Fabrication, Characterization, and Performance

    Basalt fiber is a famous sound and thermal insulating material. In this study, a novel basalt fiber-based electrical insulating paper was successfully prepared, and its physical strength, dielectric properties, thermal stability, and glue permeability of the composite paper were systematically investigated. The results showed that the introduction of mica could make basalt fiber/mica composite paper (B-M paper). Meanwhile, the introduction of aramid fibrids into B-M paper could greatly increase the physical strength and dielectric performance (1–26 times). In addition, silicone adhesive bonding could further enhance physical strength and electrical properties, which were 1–45 times higher than those of pure composite paper. Thus, basalt fiber-based paper is a potential electrical insulating material
