CO2 Emissions Embodied in Austrian International Trade

    Get PDF
This study quantifies the CO2 emissions embodied in Austrian exports and imports, using a two region-input output approach (Austria and the rest of the world). The approach considers differences in production technologies between Austria and the rest of the world, concerning the CO2 coefficients (per unit of output) and the input-output structure (both are taken from data for EU 27). The CO2 emissions embodied in Austrian imports are considerably higher than CO2 emissions embodied in exports, i.e., CO2 for Austrian demand is leaking to the rest of the world. From 1995 to 2005 this negative balance of CO2 in trade has diminished in absolute terms, from 11 million tons (1995) to 6.4 million tons (2005), as CO2 embodied in exports has grown more rapidly than CO2 embodied in imports, thereby creating a huge potential for future carbon leakage.trade-embodied CO2 emissions, input-output modelling, carbon leakage

Generalized and Customizable Sets in R

    Get PDF
We present data structures and algorithms for sets and some generalizations thereof (fuzzy sets, multisets, and fuzzy multisets) available for R through the sets package. Fuzzy (multi-)sets are based on dynamically bound fuzzy logic families. Further extensions include user-definable iterators and matching functions.

    Support Vector Machines in R

    Get PDF
Being among the most popular and efficient classification and regression methods currently available, implementations of support vector machines exist in almost every popular programming language. Currently four R packages contain SVM related software. The purpose of this paper is to present and compare these implementations.

    Text Mining Infrastructure in R

    Get PDF
During the last decade text mining has become a widely used discipline utilizing statistical and machine learning methods. We present the tm package which provides a framework for text mining applications within R. We give a survey on text mining facilities in R and explain how typical application tasks can be carried out using our framework. We present techniques for count-based analysis methods, text clustering, text classification and string kernels.

Present State of the Sl/Rn Process and Its Application to Indian Raw Materials

    Get PDF
The paper describes the present state of development of the SL/RN Process, discussing the reasons for using solid fuels as reductants and the application of a rotary kiln as reactor. Especially critical thought is given to the problem of economy ,of the direct reduction processes with regard to the prices of ore, coal and energy. In connec-tion with the description of the SL/RN or Lurgi rotary kiln plants built so far, the special features and operating conditions of each plant are explained. Some of the most important initial difficulties experienced with the plants erected up to now are discussed in detail and the measures taken to overcome these are stated. Reference is made to comprehensive studies and tests carried out with Indian ores and coals in the Frankfurt laboratories and also to the applicability of the SL RN Process to the Indian Steel Industry. Some future aspests are mentioned which, in spite of the difficulties encountered so far, demon-strate that there are well-founded hopes for a favourable future development of the direct reduction process using solid fuels

Effect of Corporate Income Taxation on Unemployment Levels in the European Union

    Get PDF
While there have been a variety of studies looking at the impact corporate taxation can have on some of these variables (most dealing with foreign direct investment and whether labor or capital bears the greater burden), the purpose of this research will be to directly study the impact that lowering the corporate income tax rate can have on unemployment levels in a country. I will be doing this through an empirical study of 15 European Union member countries, mainly due to the availability of data and the unique mobility of capital, by utilizing an ordinary least squares regression equation. Understanding the impact corporate taxation can have on unemployment is vital for a country in order to help facilitate responsible taxation policies considering it is hypothesized changes in corporate taxation can have a significant impact on unemployment levels
