    Analysis of Correlation between Quality of Life and Subjective Evaluation of Air Quality—Empirical Research Based on CHARLS 2018 Data

    This paper mainly focuses on the relationship between the subjective evaluation of air quality and the quality of life (QOL) of middle-aged and elderly residents in China. The 2018 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) project database is the key sources of data, from which 16,736 valid samples were used in our research. Multivariate linear regression analysis and binomial logistic regression model were applied to detect the impact of the subjective evaluation of air quality on QOL, which was evaluated in two dimensions, which are health utility and experienced utility, using the health utility EQ-5D score and the experienced utility of life satisfaction score. Our results show that there is a significant positive correlation between the subjective evaluation of air quality and the two dimensions of QOL. Age, education, marital status and sleep status also have a relatively great impact on the QOL of residents. This worked studied the overall QOL of middle-aged and elderly residents in China, while policy suggestions regarding high-quality air public goods are also given in the paper

    Tumor microenvironment participates in metastasis of pancreatic cancer

    Abstract Pancreatic cancer is a deadly disease with high mortality due to difficulties in its early diagnosis and metastasis. The tumor microenvironment induced by interactions between pancreatic epithelial/cancer cells and stromal cells is critical for pancreatic cancer progression and has been implicated in the failure of chemotherapy, radiation therapy and immunotherapy. Microenvironment formation requires interactions between pancreatic cancer cells and stromal cells. Components of the pancreatic cancer microenvironment that contribute to desmoplasia and immunosuppression are associated with poor patient prognosis. These components can facilitate desmoplasia and immunosuppression in primary and metastatic sites or can promote metastasis by stimulating angiogenesis/lymphangiogenesis, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, invasion/migration, and pre-metastatic niche formation. Some molecules participate in both microenvironment formation and metastasis. In this review, we focus on the mechanisms of pancreatic cancer microenvironment formation and discuss how the pancreatic cancer microenvironment participates in metastasis, representing a potential target for combination therapy to enhance overall survival

    Analysis of Abnormal Detection Rates of Health Examination for the Older Adults in the National Essential Public Health Services

    Background The contribution of geriatric health examination services of national essential public health services to the detection of abnormal health conditions in the elderly and the awareness of examination results of the elderly has been rarely reported in the current studies. Objective To investigate the abnormal detection of several common diseases including abnormal blood pressure, abnormal blood glucose, overweight and obesity, anemia, fatty liver disease, gallstones or cholecystitis in the health examination of the older adults aged 65 years and above. Methods The older adults aged 65 years and above who visited 20 primary care institutions in 5 cities of 3 provinces in eastern, central and western China were selected as study subjects (excluding those with unclear health examination results in this year) from November to December 2019 by using a multi-stage stratified sampling method, and divided into the general older adults (without hypertension or diabetes), older adults with hypertension, older adults with diabetes. A one-on-one questionnaire survey was conducted on all respondents (The questionnaire included the general demographic characteristics of the respondents and the abnormal detection in the health examination of the elderly) . Results Among 3 018 older adults, 2 033 (67.36%) reported abnormalities in the health examination. There were statistically significant differences in the abnormal detection rates of health examination for the older adults with different types of residence, population, and household registration (P<0.05). Among 3 018 older adults, 1 174 (38.90%) self-reported abnormal blood pressure detection, 747 (24.75%) self-reported abnormal blood glucose detection, 719 (23.82%) self-reported dyslipidemia detection, 445 (14.74%) self-reported fatty liver detection, 393 (13.02%) reported overweight and obesity detection, 238 (7.89%) reported gallstones or cholecystitis detection, and 60 (1.99%) reported anemia detection. Abnormal blood pressure was detected in 49.13% of the older adults diagnosed with hypertension during the annual health examination, with the blood pressure control rate of 50.87%. Abnormal blood glucose was detected in 60.48% of the older adults diagnosed with diabetes during health examination with the control rate of blood glucose of 39.52%. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that the detection rate of abnormal blood pressure was 2.57 times〔95%CI (2.01, 3.29) 〕 higher in the older adults with diabetes than in the general older adults; the detection rate of dyslipidemia was 1.64 times〔95%CI (1.29, 2.08) 〕 and 1.42 times〔95%CI (1.10, 1.84) 〕 higher in the older adults with hypertension and diabetes than in the general older adults, respectively; the detection rate of overweight and obesity was 2.79 times〔95%CI (1.94, 4.00) 〕 and 2.64 times〔95%CI (1.80, 3.87) 〕 higher in the older adults with hypertension and diabetes than in the general older adults, respectively; the detection rate of fatty liver was 2.10 times〔95%CI (1.55, 2.85) 〕 higher in the the older adults with hypertension than the general older adults; while the detection rate of anemia was 0.25 times〔95%CI (0.13, 0.47) 〕 and 0.47 times〔95%CI (0.25, 0.86) 〕 higher in the older adults with hypertension and diabetes than in the general older adults; the detection rate of dyslipidemia, gallstones or cholecystitis was 0.76〔95%CI (0.64, 0.90) 〕and 1.32〔95%CI (1.01, 1.73) 〕 times higher in the rural older adults than the urban older adults, respectively (P<0.05) . Conclusion The physical examination program for the elderly in the national essential public health services plays an important role in early detection and wareness of health problems

    Effect of the degree of polymerization of nonylphenol polyoxyethylene ether on the dewatering of low-rank coal

    In this study, we investigated the effect of the hydrophilic ethylene oxide chain lengths (i.e., degree of polymerization) of nonylphenol polyoxyethylene ether (NPEO-x, x = 8, 10, and 12) on the dewatering of low-rank coal slime through dewatering and adsorption experiments and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurements. The dewatering experiments showed that the adsorption of NPEO changed the water content of the low-rank coal slime: NPEO-8 achieved the best effect, followed, in decreasing order, by NPEO-10 and NPEO-12. Adsorption experiments revealed that the adsorption isotherms of NPEO-x on the low-rank coal surface conform with the Langmuir model, and its adsorption kinetics follow the pseudo-second-order kinetic equation. Furthermore, the adsorption is a spontaneous process and controlled by both intraparticle diffusion and liquid film diffusion. The XPS results showed that the adsorption of NPEO-x decreased the content of oxygencontaining groups and, thus, improved the hydrophobicity of the low-rank coal surface. Further, the use of NPEO-x with a low degree of polymerization (x = 8) improves the hydrophobicity of the coal surface and decreases the water content of low-rank coal slime

    Abstract Pancreatic cancer is one of the most lethal cancers worldwide due to its insidious symptoms, early metastasis, and chemoresistance. Hence, the underlying mechanisms contributing to pancreatic cancer progression require further exploration. Based on accumulating evidence, extracellular vesicles, including exosomes and microvesicles, play a crucial role in pancreatic cancer progression and chemoresistance. Furthermore, they also possess the potential to be promising biomarkers, therapy targets and tools for treating pancreatic cancer. Therefore, in-depth studies on the role of extracellular vesicles in pancreatic cancer are meaningful. In this review, we focus on the regulatory effects of extracellular vesicles on pancreatic cancer progression, metastasis, cancer-related immunity and chemoresistance, particularly their potential roles as biomarkers and therapeutic targets

    Safety and efficacy of mycophenolate mofetil in treating neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders: a protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis

    Introduction Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD) is an inflammatory and heterogeneous astrocyte disorder of the central nervous system with the characteristic of higher incidence in women and Asian people. Most patients with NMOSD have a course of recurrence and remission that is prone to cause paralysis and blindness. Several studies have confirmed the efficacy and promising prospect of mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) in the treatment of NMOSD. Yet its therapeutic effect and safety are controversial. Although there has been two published literature that is relevant to the topic of this study, both of them have certain defects, and they can only provide answers about the efficacy or safety of MMF in the treatment of NMOSD from partial perspectives or conclusions. This research aims to perform a direct and comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate MMF’s effectiveness and safety in treating NMOSD.Methods and analysis This systematic review will cover all comparative researches, from randomised controlled trials to cohort studies, and case–control study. A relevant literature search will be conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Database, China Science and Technology Journal Database and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database from their inception to 31 June 2020. We will also search registers of clinical trials, potential grey literature and abstracts from conferences. There are no limits on language and publication status. The reporting quality and risk of bias will be assessed by two researchers independently. Expanded Disability Status Scales and annualised relapse rate will be evaluated as the primary outcome. The secondary outcomes will consist of the frequency and severity of adverse events, best-corrected visual acuity, relapse-free rate and time to the next attack. A meta-analysis will be performed using RevMan V.5.3 software provided by the Cochrane Collaboration and Stata V.12.0.Ethics and dissemination Because the data used for this systematic review will be exclusively extracted from published studies, ethical approval and informed consent of patients will not be required. The systematic review will be published in a peer-reviewed journal, presented at conferences and will be shared on social media platforms.PROSPERO registration number CRD42020164179
