Static Quark Potential and the Renormalized Anisotropy on Tadpole Improved Anisotropic Lattices
Static quark potential is studied using a tadpole improved gauge lattice
action. The scale is set using the potential for a wide range of bare
parameters.
The renormalized anisotropy of the lattice is also measured.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication in Int. J. Mod. Phys.

Onsite data processing and monitoring for the Daya Bay Experiment
The Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment started running on September 23,
2011. The offline computing environment, consisting of 11 servers at Daya Bay,
was built to process onsite data. With current computing ability, onsite data
processing is running smoothly. The Performance Quality Monitoring system (PQM)
has been developed to monitor the detector performance and data quality. Its
main feature is the ability to efficiently process multi-data-stream from three
experimental halls. The PQM processes raw data files from the Daya Bay data
acquisition system, generates and publishes histograms via a graphical web
interface by executing the user-defined algorithm modules, and saves the
histograms for permanent storage. The fact that the whole process takes only
around 40 minutes makes it valuable for the shift crew to monitor the running
status of all the sub-detectors and the data quality
A formal functional representation methodology for conceptual design of material-flow processing devices
Although there has been considerable computer-aided conceptual design research, most of the proposed approaches are domain specific and can merely achieve conceptual design of energy flows-processing systems. Therefore, this research is devoted to the development of a general (i.e., domain-independent) and knowledge-based methodology that can search in a wide multidisciplinary solution space for suitable solution principles for desired material-flow processing functions without designers' biases toward familiar solution principles. It first proposes an ontology-based approach for representing desired material-flow processing functions in a formal and unambiguous manner. Then a rule-based approach is proposed to represent the functional knowledge of a known solution principle in a general and flexible manner. Thereafter, a simulation-based retrieval approach is developed, which can search for suitable solution principles for desired material-flow processing functions. The proposed approaches have been implemented as a computer-aided conceptual design system for test. The conceptual design of a coin-sorting device demonstrates that our functional representation methodology can make the proposed computer-aided conceptual design system to effectively and precisely retrieve suitable solution principles for a desired material-flow processing function
Spindle oscillations are generated in the dorsal thalamus and modulated by the thalamic reticular nucleus
Spindle waves occur during the early stage of slow wave sleep and are thought to arise in the thalamic reticular nucleus (TRN), causing inhibitory postsynaptic potential spindle-like oscillations in the dorsal thalamus that are propagated to the cortex. We have found that thalamocortical neurons exhibit membrane oscillations that have spindle frequencies, consist of excitatory postsynaptic potentials, and co-occur with electroencephalographic spindles. TRN lesioning prolonged oscillations in the medial geniculate body (MGB) and auditory cortex (AC). Injection of GABA~A~ antagonist into the MGB decreased oscillation frequency, while injection of GABA~B~ antagonist increased spindle oscillations in the MGB and cortex. Thus, spindles originate in the dorsal thalamus and TRN inhibitory inputs modulate this process, with fast inhibition facilitating the internal frequency and slow inhibition limiting spindle occurrence
