Abstract: Actinomycetes are gram-positive bacteria and constitute a large part of the soil microbial population. This work aims to study the soil actinomycetes from the Caatinga, in order to discover species that provide biological control of Pyricularia grisea and Pythium aphanidermatum, fungi responsible for causing diseases in plants. Of the total isolates, 14 obtained result in control of these fungi, and 2 have been identified. Of these two, one is presented as probable new species, and is being studied depth. This work shows how important it is to preserve the Caatinga, as in its soil lives microorganisms that might be able to perform positive results in both agriculture and industry

A MILP model for an extended version of the Flexible Job Shop Problem

A MILP model for an extended version of the Flexible Job Shop Scheduling problem is proposed. The extension allows the precedences between operations of a job to be given by an arbitrary directed acyclic graph rather than a linear order. The goal is the minimization of the makespan. Theoretical and practical advantages of the proposed model are discussed. Numerical experiments show the performance of a commercial exact solver when applied to the proposed model. The new model is also compared with a simple extension of the model described by \"Ozg\"uven, \"Ozbakir, and Yavuz (Mathematical models for job-shop scheduling problems with routing and process plan flexibility, Applied Mathematical Modelling, 34:1539--1548, 2010), using instances from the literature and instances inspired by real data from the printing industry.Comment: 15 pages, 2 figures, 4 tables. In the search for an alternative to the intensive use of fungicides in crop production, a soil bacterium was isolated in Guaira, Sao Paulo State (Brazil). This Bacillus gave good control of the fungus Fusarium solani, an important plant disease. In order to apply this bacterium in larger experimental areas, it was necessary to study its production by liquid fermentation on cheap agroindustrial residues. Manipueira (the waste water from cassava flour industry) was the main component of the medium, supplemented by sugarcane molasses. It was inoculated with the Bacillus sp. (isolated from Guaira soil) and incubated under constant agitation and temperatura in 250 ml Erlenmeyer flasks. Bacterial growth, pH and sugar consumption were analyzed over 48 h of fermentation. The results obtained indicated the ability of the residue to support the growth of the strain tested and the importance of scaling up the fermentation process
