    The article provides an assessment of the stability of the Neman riverbed. Author has developed a classification of the Neman River course based on the evaluation of its stability and coastal erosion risk. It has been established that presently the nature of riverbed processes in the Neman Valley is heterogeneous in various sections and even in small segments.     The paper describes the relationship and interaction of the city with riverbeds and vice versa. It is determined that low-order rivers react more quickly to the impact of man-made factors, radically changing the type of riverbed processes (the Iput River).     The article presents an engineering-geomorphological assessment of the geodynamic regimes of the Neman River valley within Belarus and adjacent territories.     The features of formation and spatial differentiation of engineering-geological conditions are considered. Genetic types of soil strata are identified as followed: alluvial, lake and marsh, water-glacial, moraine. Based on the analysis of physical and mechanical properties of soils, the assessment of their use as a basement for engineering structures was conducted. It is advised to use within the Pripyat River valley loamy, sandy and sandy sediments of different genesis as natural foundations for buildings the structures.     Peculiarities of Formation and Physico-Mechanical Properties of the Fluvioglacial Deposits of Belarus as Ground Strata

    The article presents the information of particular conditions of formation and physicomechanical properties of fluvioglacial deposits of Belarus. Deposits mineral and petrographic composition found to be similar to those in moraine formations, because they were formed as result of erosion of the moraine material by thawing glacial streams. They comprises of the large variety of granulometric types from gravel-pebble to sandy loam with the predominance of sands. They are characterized by significant lateral and depth variability. In general, fluvioglacial soils have the acceptable geotechnical properties and may serve as a good base for different engineering constructions of any class of responsibility
