Graph topologies on closed multifunctions
[EN] In this paper we study function space topologies on closed multifunctions, i.e. closed relations on X x Y using various hypertopologies. The hypertopologies are in essence, graph topologies i.e topologies on functions considered as graphs which are subsets of X x Y . We also study several topologies, including one that is derived from the Attouch-Wets filter on the range. We state embedding theorems which enable us to generalize and prove some recent results in the literature with the use of known results in the hyperspace of the range space and in the function space topologies of ordinary functions.Di Maio, G.; Meccariello, E.; Naimpally, S. Bombay hypertopologies
[EN] Recently it was shown that, in a metric space, the upper Wijsman convergence can be topologized with the introduction of a new far-miss topology. The resulting Wijsman topology is a mixture of the ball topology and the proximal ball topology. It leads easily to the generalized or g-Wijsman topology on the hyperspace of any topological space with a compatible LO-proximity and a cobase (i.e. a family of closed subsets which is closed under finite unions and which contains all singletons). Further generalization involving a topological space with two compatible LO-proximities and a cobase results in a new hypertopology which we call the Bombay topology. The generalized locally finite Bombay topology includes the known hypertopologies as special cases and moreover it gives birth to many new hypertopologies. We show how it facilitates comparison of any two hypertopologies by proving one simple result of which most of the existing results are easy consequences.Di Maio, G.; Meccariello, E.; Naimpally, S. Trans Oral Robotic Surgery (TORS) is a prominent surgical approach for the resection of oropharyngeal tumors without division of the lip and mandible. Some defects following TORS are large and complex enough to benefit soft-tissue coverage. Computer-aided design and manufacturing technology applied to total nasal reconstruction
The principles of nasal reconstruction include the need to reconstruct three tissue layers, the need to restore entire skin
aesthetical units, and, possibly, the replacement with like tissues. Computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manu-
facturing (CAM) technologies were applied to two total nasal reconstructions in male patients who underwent rhinectomy
for cancer. Three-dimensional (3D) data were obtained from computerized tomography (CT) scan-derived DICOM files
(Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine), this allowed us to design the shape of the reconstructive nose in order
to mimic the native nose and to plan dimensions and angles. A custom-made titanium plate was manufactured for the struc-
ture and a bi-dimensional template for the forehead flap was printed. The patients underwent a total nasal reconstruction in
three layers: local flaps for the lining, custom-made titanium plate for the structure, and expanded forehead flap for the skin.
Forehead flap pedicle was divided 3 weeks postoperatively under local anesthesia in an outpatient clinic, as well as further
minor refinements. The patients underwent a 6-month post-operative CT scan in order to compare the result to the planned
nose. No complications were reported. The superimposition demonstrated a 92% match in case 1 and 95% match in case 2
between the reconstructed nose and the planned one. Forehead flap is still the most favorable option for nasal reconstruction,
CAD technology allows to implement the planning and makes the procedure easier; moreover, the use of a CAM plate for
the structure allows to reconstruct a nose with the desired naso-frontal angle

Syntopic Cystoseira taxa support different molluscan assemblages in the Gulf of Naples (southern Tyrrhenian Sea)
Brown macroalgae belonging to the genus Cystoseira (Fucales: Sargassaceae) are canopy-forming organisms the recent decline of which at a basin and local scale has been widely documented, which urgently calls for research to fill knowledge gaps and support new and effective measures for protection. We, hereby, characterised the molluscan assemblages associated with three Cystoseira taxa (C. amentacea, C. compressa and C. crinita) from Ischia Island (Italy, Tyrrhenian Sea), and tested whether different congeneric taxa may syntopically support a different biota. In particular, these assemblages were compared among three Cystoseira species, between two times of sampling (June–July 2015 and June–July 2016), and among six sites in terms of multivariate structure (identity and relative abundances of constituting taxa combined, and presence–absence composition), as well as for synthetic measures of diversity, including the total richness of taxa, the exponential Shannon index, and the reciprocal Simpson index. In total, 24736 molluscan individuals were collected, overall belonging to 52 taxa. The majority of the identified species included micrograzers and filter feeders, which is in agreement with similar previous studies. The composition of associated molluscan assemblages, which was mainly represented by juvenile individuals, differed among the three Cystoseira species, suggesting that even congeneric taxa do not support an analogous benthic fauna. The present findings have shedded light on the molluscan biota associated with Cystoseira taxa in the Gulf of Naples and strengthened the importance of such habitat-forming macroalgae in structuring the local infralittoral invertebrate biodiversity and as a nursery for species-specific associated molluscs
Complex Acetabular Prosthetic Revisions. Comparison of modern materials in treatment strategies
The increasing number of total hip arthroplasty (THA) operations has inevitably led to an increase in the number of revisions for aseptic, septic or traumatic mobilization. The surgical treatment of these lesions is a demanding challenge for the surgeon: the primary objective is a stable osterexesis of the fracture that allows an early mobilization of the patient, therefore a careful evaluation of the materials to be implanted is also necessary. The aim of our study is to demonstrate the usefulness and limitations of new revision surgery technologies in cotiprosteal fractures. We enrolled 54 patients who underwent hip acetabular revision. The criteria chosen for the evaluation of outcomes: the visual analogue scale of pain in the traumatized hip (VAS); the subjective score of the Harris HIP Score; quality of life measured with The Short Form (12) Health Survey (SF-12); the average time of cup integration and complications. The evaluation endpoint was set at 24 months. The results, assessed with the aforementioned parameters, were on average good. Complications are the same as those described in the literature. The advantages of the new generation of acetabular components are: excellent integration and ductility of materials during revision of hip arthroplasty
The emergency and delay management in total talus extrusion: Case report and review of literature after 24 months of follow up
Abstract Total talus extrusion is a rare and severe injury. It is burdened by many complications as avascular necrosis and osteomyelitis even if a proper debridement of extruded talus is performed. Few case reports or case series were published, and because of the rarity of this event, there are no guidelines for treatment. We report the first case on an octogenarian man providing a long-term follow-up performing contrast enhanced magnetic resonances. The authors report the case of an octogenarian man who fell from an olive tree reporting a total talus extrusion associated with the fracture of the medial malleolus. After an accurate debridement and washing of the wound, the talus was anatomically repositioned and the fracture was treated with an external fixator. The wound healed with difficulty after 12 months and the patient developed a chronic osteomyelitis of the talar dome and avascular necrosis of talar head. We followed the patient for 24 months performing contrast enhanced magnetic resonances and evaluating the development of the avascular necrosis. Even if we encountered these complications, the treatment allowed the patient to walk without pain, using a talus type shoe and one crutch. Although the literature suggests that an anatomic replacement of talus allows avoiding main complications, we deem that the patient's age is an important biological feature to consider in the prognostic stratification. Moreover, primary talectomy and tibio-calcaneal fusion should be reserved as a salvage procedure. Talus replacement allows an overall good outcome for the patients, retaining height, and allowing a good quality of life
